Feminists everywhere are rejoicing, I’m sure.

CNS News did some investigating, and Ed Morrissey came up with this analysis:

At least ostensibly, this is an unfunded mandate on the states, which run the exchanges. What happens when no insurer in the state offers abortion coverage? At the moment, 87% of all abortions are purchased outside of third-party payers, so this is not an academic question. Do the feds intend to shut down an exchange that doesn’t offer an abortion plan? Or do they expect the states then to cover abortions instead?

… Once Congress stops re-enabling the Hyde Amendment, the mandates in Reid’s Section 1303 will force the federal government to supply the coverage for abortion where state exchanges have none. It will give the federal government an entree into broader health-insurance offerings, and that will have one ironic effect: it will crowd out those few private insurance plans that offer elective abortion coverage. Where Stupak’s opponents insisted that his language would create a “price signal” that would encourage private insurers to abandon abortion coverage, this would all but guarantee the same result, as private insurers would get undercut by the federal plan that would come into play.

This is nothing more than a mandate for federally-funded abortions. How long would it take a court to make that same determination? I suspect that Planned Parenthood and NARAL already have their legal counsel preparing for it.

It’s not exactly a surprise that the health care bill would include funding for abortion. Feminists have been howling about the Stupak amendment, the abortion lobby has been furious. Liberals were bound to cave in to their demands, and they were bound to try to hide it from the federal public. It is typical of liberals. And it’s infuriating to anyone with any kind of morals or respect for the sanctity of life. It’s bad enough that abortion is celebrated as some kind of right in this country, like it’s glorious for a woman to be able to go and kill her baby. Feminists in particular revel in it, like it’s some kind of sacred cow. Apparently, you have to be a member of the “I <3 Abortion" club in order to be a feminist in today's world. There are currently about 1.3 million abortions performed a year, and this isn't good enough for feminists. They not only want abortion to be free and legal, they want it to be paid for by Americans whether they like it or not. It has to be taxpayer-funded.

It's important that we all understand this. It's not good enough for feminists just to have abortion be legal and freely accessible. Any woman who wants to can get an abortion. And there is already $300 million a year in taxpayer subsidies for Planned Parenthood. There's plenty of federal funding for abortion, but feminists always want more. It isn't enough for abortion to be legal, it isn't enough for it to be federally subsidized. How much do they want? Does every single abortion performed need to be taxpayer funded so that any woman who wants one never has to pay for it out of her own pocket? It's a disgusting state of affairs. Half the country is morally opposed to abortion. But liberals are a special group of people. If they believe in something, then everyone must be for it and it must be federally mandated and subsidized. If they don't believe in something, then no one should believe in it and it must be totally banned. And so, thanks to this mental outlook and the carping of the feminist/abortion lobby, we are now looking at forcing half of the people in this country to fund something to which they are virulently opposed.

And so it begins. Obama’s government run health care bill hasn’t even passed yet, but he’s already got federal panels recommending rationing.

Women in their 40s should stop routinely having annual mammograms and older women should cut back to one scheduled exam every other year, an influential federal task force has concluded, challenging the use of one of the most common medical tests.

In its first reevaluation of breast cancer screening since 2002, the independent government-appointed panel recommended the changes, citing evidence that the potential harm to women having annual exams beginning at age 40 outweighs the benefit.

Coming amid a highly charged national debate over health-care reform and simmering suspicions about the possibility of rationing medical services, the recommendations immediately became enveloped in controversy.

“We’re not saying women shouldn’t get screened. Screening does saves lives,” said Diana B. Petitti, vice chairman of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which released the recommendations Monday in a paper being published in Tuesday’s Annals of Internal Medicine. “But we are recommending against routine screening. There are important and serious negatives or harms that need to be considered carefully.”

Several patient advocacy groups and many breast cancer experts welcomed the new guidelines, saying they represent a growing recognition that more testing, exams and treatment are not always beneficial and, in fact, can harm patients. Mammograms produce false-positive results in about 10 percent of cases, causing anxiety and often prompting women to undergo unnecessary follow-up tests, sometimes-disfiguring biopsies and unneeded treatment, including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

But the American Cancer Society, the American College of Radiology and other experts condemned the change, saying the benefits of routine mammography have been clearly demonstrated and play a key role in reducing the number of mastectomies and the death toll from one of the most common cancers.

“Tens of thousands of lives are being saved by mammography screening, and these idiots want to do away with it,” said Daniel B. Kopans, a radiology professor at Harvard Medical School. “It’s crazy — unethical, really.”

The new guidelines also recommend against teaching women to do regular self-exams and concluded that there is insufficient evidence to recommend that doctors do the exams or to continue routine mammograms beyond age 74.

Some questioned whether the new guidelines were designed more to control spending than to improve health. In addition to prompting fewer doctors to recommend mammograms to their patients, they worried that the move would prompt insurers to deny coverage for many mammograms.

Less than a year ago, these same people were decrying the decline in mammograms among women in their 40s. And now, suddenly, with Obamacare looming, this panel just coincidentally came to this conclusion? Not shockingly, Ed Morrissey examines the doctors on this panel, and finds not a single oncologist present.

Barack Obama claimed that he would be championing increased screening and prevention. Yet now we’ve got a federal panel wanting to just cut back the number of mammograms performed, mammograms that could potentially be life-saving, because you could get a false positive and feel anxiety? I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’d rather get the mammogram and have the doctors look into that suspicious lump, false positive or not, than just shove it off for a few years and end up having cancer in a more severe stage. Isn’t that what Obama’s panel here is basically recommending?

And they aren’t even going after just mammograms. They don’t even want women doing self-exams anymore! I guess they don’t want to take the risk of a woman who is “too young” finding a lump on her breast and getting it checked out, just to be safe. I mean, jeez, that would just be waaay too costly. The motivation here is clearly not to save lives or decrease some imagined anxiety women get over their mammograms. (After all, what person wouldn’t be anxious if they thought they had cancer? It seems perfectly natural to me.) It’s just pathetic and extremely depressing to me that Obamacare hasn’t even passed yet — and already, we have federal panels recommending rationing care.

I keep asking — are you happy you voted for change now? Is this the hope you wanted?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Doctor Jacquelline Perlman has had it. After a 12-year career as an OB-GYN doctor she his quitting her practice. One of the major reasons is the exorbitant costs of malpractice insurance.

“I’ve decided to retire from obstetrics,” said Perlman, 42. “It breaks my heart. Malpractice costs are a big part of it. It’s a very sad story.”

Last spring her insurer dropped her and several of her fellow doctors because of the high risk of covering OB-GYNs. Dr. Perlman’s new insurer was to charge $160,000 a year for coverage and that proved too much for Perlman to take.

Perlman noted that over the last five years, as her insurance costs multiplied, her actual income dropped by 20 percent.

So, another good doctor — one that has never had a malpractice case stick to her — leaves the profession. Now, before some of you out there assume the insurance companies is the villain here, let us pinpoint the real villain: trial lawyers.

It is the nuisance lawsuits, those filed merely to harass doctors in order to get a quick settlement, and lawyers that game the system with nonsense lawsuits as well as clients looking for a lottery-like payout that will make them instant millionaires that cause this problem.

One of the most important aspects of what should be a true reform to our system of medicine would be a policy that would curtail these out-of-control, greedy lawyers. Naturally, tort reform and trial lawyers are coming up as a protected class in Obamacare. And why is that? Because trial lawyers gave Obama a ton of cash for his campaign, that’s why.

This proves that Obamacare is not about “reform,” nor about improving our medical system. It is first and foremost about political payoffs. Obama is shameless in his political payoffs and this one is particularly stark.

In the meantime, as Obamacare takes its baby steps toward final passage, more great docs like Mrs. Perlman will quit the business.

Obama keeps pretending that we will be “allowed” to “keep our doctors if we like them.” But as each day passes we are finding more and more reasons why many of us will lose our favorite doctors whether we like them or not.

The latest OMG, WE’RE ALL IN DEEP DOO DOO BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING! EVERYBODY PANIC! story

The negative impact on mental health worldwide may be one of the most severe effects of climate change, with children at greatest risk, according to experts.

Of course. Think of the children.

As climate change causes extreme weather events, drought, financial strain and changes in work and migration patterns, people will be at increasing risk from mental health issues such as post traumatic stress disorder and depression, said Dr Helen Berry from the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University (ANU).

Riiiiiiight. Because those things have never happened before.

Despite the risk, this is an area that has received little attention, she added.

You know, on second thought, I think this area should be explored and studied tremendously. Perhaps it might explain the insanity that pervaded so many folks on the Left (and some on the right,) when it came to George Bush and Sarah Palin. Maybe it could explain the moonbattery practiced on the Left. And, maybe, just maybe, we could get an answer to why so many supposed scientists and citizens have lost their ever-lovin’ minds when it comes to anthropogenic global warming.

That really would be a good stopping point, but, I made the mistake of reading the whole story, darnitall!

“It’s becoming apparent that we’re experience[sic] the IPCC’s worst case scenario of climate change – or even worse,” said Berry. “We need to address the impact that this will have on mental health, now.”

Give us money to study this.

“All of these factors interact and could result in a great increase in severe mental health problems,” she added.

Money.

“The aim is to try to see mental health as part of an overall strategy that deals with climate change impact,” he said.

Money.

Despite their warnings, it’s not all bad news – Dr Berry added that there could be a positive side effect to communities facing the risks of climate change.

“Climate change could motivate collective action, which is the number one thing to protect mental health,” she said.

Socialism.

In exchange for real rights as enshrined in the US Constitution, such as our rights to free speech, to bear arms, and to own property that’s ours and not the government’s, moonbat authoritarians offer their own version of “rights” — i.e., special goodies that it’s your right to force someone else to pay for. The latest “right” Airstrip One may offer its subjects is the right for transsexual freakazoids to have artificial breasts affixed with taxpayers’ money:

A transsexual refused breast enlargement surgery on the NHS is to take her [sic] case to the High Court, at a cost of tens of thousands of pounds to the hospital’s budget.

The legally aided gender dysphoria sufferer, who has been living as a woman for over 10 years, says breast augmentation is essential to her [sic] female identity and emotional well-being and the refusal to give her [sic] the op amounts to sex discrimination.

Her [sic] unique test case against the West Berkire Primary Care Trust (PCT), in which the Equality and Human Rights Commission will also be playing a part, is now set for hearing at the High Court on October 20.

The freakazoid in question hasn’t had a choppadickophomy procedure; he just wants to have breasts like a woman because that would, according to his lawyer, give him psychological benefit. The money wasted just dragging this case through court could be spent providing medical care to those who need it, but when the government controls healthcare, resources are allocated on a political basis.

Meanwhile, those with less politically correct medical needs go without treatment under Britain’s socialist system.

An 80-year-old grandmother who doctors identified as terminally ill and left to starve to death has recovered after her outraged daughter intervened.

Hazel Fenton, from East Sussex, is alive nine months after medics ruled she had only days to live, withdrew her antibiotics and denied her artificial feeding. The former school matron had been placed on a controversial care plan intended to ease the last days of dying patients.

Just don’t call it a death panel. Sarah Palin made those up.

In other socialized medicine news, a soldier died after being given cancerous lungs in a transplant operation:

Matthew Millington, 31, died at home in Brown Lees, near Stoke-on-Trent, after receiving the organs from a donor who is believed to have smoked between 30 and 50 roll-up cigarettes a day, an inquest heard.

Following the death, an investigation at Papworth Hospital, in Cambridge, pinpointed a string of problems, including issues with communication, record-keeping and patient handover. It found that a radiographer had failed to highlight the growth of a cancerous tumour.

Maybe the transsexual should think twice about whether he really wants government doctors installing his fake boobs.

On tips from mega and BURNING HOT.

Hey, here’s one you won’t hear about in any of the MSM, unless the lawsuit tanks

A coalition of pro-life advocates including two scientists, two families, an adoption agency and the Christian Medical Association have banded together to file a lawsuit against the Obama administration in an effort to stop the expected taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.

The suit is a response to President Barack Obama’s decision earlier this year to overturn the protections the Bush administration put in place preventing funding of research that involves the destruction of human life.

They must believe in God and be EVIL Creationists, or something like that. I’m waiting for Excitable Chucky to chime in, since everyone who believes in God is a Creationist.

World magazine indicates the pro-life advocates have sued the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on behalf of unborn children who would be destroyed in the research funded by the departments.

They want to stop the expected $92 million that could be funneled from taxpayer funds to embryonic stem cell research, which has never helped human patients and has yielded significant problems in studies with animals.

That is the major issue. Why should the federal government use taxpayer money to fund ESC research? So far, it has been worthless. What point is there in a cure that creates massive tumors in the patient? If the research was so great, private industry would be doing tons of research, instead of concentrating on Adult, Placental, and other lines other than Embryonic. Using federal money is basically a sop to the Abortion on Demand lobby and to researchers who couldn’t get a job in the private sector.

The Alliance Defense Fund and the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher are also helping the clients involved in the lawsuits.

There are two suits and both make similar cases that the Obama order to force taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research violates the Dickey-Wicker Amendment, a federal law that prohibits federal funding of scientific studies that destroy human life.

Specifically, the 1995 law stops tax-funding of “(1) the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or (2) research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death.”

Oh, please, you can’t expect Democrats to actually follow The Law, mateys! The Law is for others.

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Monday the Obama administration featured a gaggle of white-coated doctors rallying in support of Obamacare but it appears that Obama’s team was a bit out of its depth in arranging the handpicked cadre of physicians. As it happened, the president’s advance team accidentally invited a doctor that has long been opposed to Obamacare.

Obama’s office contacted Doctor Eric Novack to appear beside him in Washington during his rally/photo op even though Novack is a vocal opponent of the president’s policy prescriptions.

“They had 16 hours to Google me, but I guess no one bothered,” Dr. Novack told Kathryn Serkes, Director of Policy and Public Affairs for the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) in a video interview available at TakeBackMedicine.com.

Due to his stance against the president’s policy ideas, Dr. Novack turned down this invitation to go to the White House in support of the president but he wonders what this invitation says about the other doctors that did attend.

Dr. Novack says that it was very tempting to accept the “once-in-a-lifetime” invitation, but in the end, he had to say no. But it also makes him question whether the doctors who will be there today actually support the President, or even understand all of the details of the bills.

Doctor Novack, who once co-authored a paper for the conservative Goldwater Institute, is an Orthopedic Surgeon from Arizona.

According the AAPS, Obama’s claim that Doctors overwhelmingly support his extreme policy ideas is a false one.

Serkes also rebuts the White House claims that doctors overwhelmingly support the public plan. A recent poll on the AAPS web site, TakeBackMedicine.com shows that 93% of the doctors polled are even more adamantly against the President’s plans after his national address to Congress and the country on Sept. 9.

Further, pre-publication results of an AAPS survey show that about 80% of doctors would refuse to VOLUNTARILY take part in a public plan.

It seems obvious that Obama is flying by the seat of his pants with this whole thing and that is a dangerous thing, indeed.

On a related story, Representative Tom Price (R, Ga.) told The Hill that Obama’s handpicked doctors did not accurately represent physician’s views.

“I’m kind of surprised that a hand-picked group of physicians that were brought to the White House today were applauding a government takeover of healthcare,” Price said during a conference call organized by the Republican National Committee (RNC).

“I would suggest that a real cross-section of doctors would not be applauding a government takeover of healthcare,” he added.

And, as is evident by the doctors of TakeBackMedicine.com, not all doctors are lining up behind Obamacare.

Over the past few months, we have heard and read about Democrat leaders doing their typical “hey, let’s insult, demean, damage, and demonize yet another private entity” in regards to the health insurance industry. They tell us the private health insurance companies should be more like the selfless government run Medicare. Yeah, about that (via Big Government through Newsbusters)

Beverly Gossage, Research Fellow for Show-Me Institute and founder of HSA Benefits Consulting wondered which insurance companies rejected the most claims. She found her answer in the AMA’s own 2008 National Health Insurer Report Card. The chart below appears on page 5 of the 16-page report.

(You can see a larger size chart at Big Government or here)

So, the largest denier of claims is……hey, that awesome government run Medicare (my company has UHC, United Health Care, and I have never heard about anyone being denied, and, it obviously rarely happens.)

Imagine what will happen when even more people are on Medicare and the government is cutting their funding. Say, let’s ask a doctor who wasn’t among the hand picked Obama campaign contributers invited to the White House

Today, Medicare already reimburses doctors less than what many of their treatments cost to provide. Now the government is saying that additional Medicare cuts are coming—thus forcing doctors to try and make up the difference in volume, by seeing more patients. If you ask patients about this, they understand that more volume means less time with the doctor. That’s something that all patients and doctors should oppose. In time, it will be difficult to find a physician.

Of course, there is another part to that: more and more doctors opting out of providing Medicare services, as they have been doing already. Will government mandate by federal law that they all take Medicare, as well as the government option?

More: speaking of Obama’s cute little doctor and pony show yesterday

“When you cut through all the noise and all the distractions that are out there, I think what’s most telling is that some of the people who are most supportive of reform are the very medical professionals who know the health-care system best,” the president said.

In other words, shut your mouths, American people! Barry knows best! No mention of the massive amount of doctors who marched on Washington on October 1st in opposition to Barry’s House Democrats plan to destroy the American health care system. Yeah, Barry didn’t meet with them. Shocker.

Underlying the strictly photo-op nature of the event, The Associated Press noted that Obama broke no new ground in his remarks.

Still voting present and attempting to rely on campaign rhetoric, rather than any sort of executive leadership.

You can make big money in abortion. Not only do women pay handsomely to have their inconvenient children killed, sometimes repeatedly, but Big Government shovels mountains of taxpayer money at the abortion industry, and under ObamaCare will soon shovel mountains more. Plus, you can sell body parts from the babies you kill.

Testimony from an employee of Anatomic Gift Foundation and Opening Lines, companies involved in selling parts from aborted fetuses:

QUESTION: Do you think the doctor ever altered the procedures to get you the type of specimens you needed for that day?

ANSWER: Yes, every day. When we would go in to do procedures, the doctor would come in, along with his nurse, and they would want to see the list of what we were going to procure and what we needed. Then he would basically get us the most complete, intact specimen that he could get us. And what I mean by that is that all the limbs, the arms, the head, the chest cavity, were never invaded. They were all completely intact. Sometimes if the fetus was — appeared to be dead, but when you opened up the chest cavity you do see the heart beating, but they’ll be no arms or legs moving.

QUESTION: So they were intentionally altering their type of procedure to give you an intact specimen, even if that meant giving you a live specimen?

ANSWER: That’s correct. Just so we could sell better tissue and more tissue out. So that our company would make more money. And at the end of the year, they would actually give the clinic back more money since we got good specimens.

Peter Fleckenstein spent a huge amount of time reading H.R. 3200 and found hundreds of provisions that do nothing less than give government complete control of our very lives. This is a stark list that should frighten any freedom loving American from any support for this anti-American president and his socialist Congressional majority. Aside from this frightening list, Fleckenstein has more at his site http://blog.flecksoflife.com.
