When an Islamic extremist screams “Allahu akbar” and opens fire on American soldiers, liberals know one thing for sure — it can’t have anything to do with Islam. 9/11 put Muslims first in line for the privileges of political correctness; their barbarous death cult is consequently beyond reproach.

But this hasn’t left the Left at a loss to explain Nidal Malik Hasan’s horrific killing spree. It was caused by all the things liberals don’t like — guns, for example. To quote Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, whose corrupt machine politics helped produce our Community Organizer in Chief:

Unfortunately, America loves Guns. We love guns to a point where that uh we see devastation on a daily basis. You don’t blame a group.

Likewise, it was America’s unfortunate love of air travel that caused Hasan’s colleagues to fly passenger airliners into buildings full of innocent people on September 11. You don’t blame a group, unless that group is normal Americans.

If anything good can come of the Islamic atrocity at Fort Hood, it is that liberals in both the government and the media have now squandered the absolute last of their credibility. It simply isn’t possible for them to deny any longer that their depraved ideology puts them on the side of the savages who are trying to destroy us.

The Illinois Supreme Court has affirmed a decision by the Third District Appellate Court that ruled that the definition of a “case” for transporting a firearm does, indeed, include an automobile’s enclosed front seat console.

The current law provides for several ways that a firearm can be transported:

(4) Carries or possesses in any vehicle or concealed on or about his person except when on his land or in his own abode or fixed place of business any pistol, revolver, stun gun or taser or other firearm, except that this subsection (a) (4) does not apply to or affect transportation of weapons that meet one of the following conditions:
(i) are broken down in a non-functioning state; or
(ii) are not immediately accessible; or
(iii) are unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card

IllinoisCarry.com celebrated the decision as a “huge win” for Illinois gun owners.

The case in question, People vs Diggins, involved the transportation of two unloaded firearms and two loaded magazines in the console of a vehicle driven by an individual in possession of a valid FOID card. In unanimous agreement the justices ruled the trial judge erred in denying defense the right to argue that a console is considered a “case” or “other container” under sec. 24 -1.4(c)iii and for instructing the jury that the console is not considered a “case”.

This ruling would also seem to resolve the question as to the legality of transporting unloaded handguns in the glove box of a vehicle by IL citizens in possession of a valid FOID card.

Of course, the law still states that firearms must be carried outside of a vehicle in some sort of case specifically built for a firearm so one wonders exactly how practical this new interpretation of the law will be?

Still, this is a step in the right direction for curtailing the capriciousness of our absurdly strict gun transportation laws.

-By Warner Todd Huston

If this isn’t the perfect evidence of why any freedom loving western citizen should be against gun registries, then you can’t make the case at all. Over the last few weeks the police in Toronto, Canada have been stormtrooping through the homes of average, everyday Torontonians that have had the misfortune to have appeared on the area’s gun registry and confiscating their legally owned guns.

What has been the pretext for this massive gun confiscation program? Unfortunately, the restrictive gun laws in Canada allow authorities to stomp through any citizen’s home and demand to see where that citizen stores his legally owned firearm. At that point, if this brownshirted police thug decides that the citizen is not storing the firearm to the law’s liking, then that citizen may have his firearm immediately stolen by the state.

Toronto’s jackbooted cops have confiscated nearly 400 firearms from basically law abiding citizens claiming that they are making the city safer. How? Why, because now criminals won’t be able to steal these guns from the public, naturally. So, because a few criminals might steal a gun here and there, these government tyrants feel that they should take everyone’s rights from them.

Catch this pretzel logic from one of Toronto’s top tyrants.

“Legal handgun owners are not dangerous individuals,” Blair told reporters at a Tuesday news conference. “But we know from experience that their firearms can become extremely dangerous when they get into the hands of criminals. And so we have undertaken a number of initiatives to reduce the availability of those handguns.”

Legal owners are not dangerous… so let’s put them at the mercy of criminals. Isn’t that a great idea?

Gosh. Seems to me a car gets stolen every once in a while, even in Toronto. Shouldn’t we have the cops forcefully steal every car from Toronto’s citizenry to prevent this crime?

But here is the real lesson. If the government has your name on a list of gun owners you WILL lose your rights eventually. The state WILL invade your home and take away your right to self-protection at some point. That is the sole reason to have a state gun registry, so that the state can kick down your door and take your firearms from you.

Toronto’s toadie cops have proven this singular truth.

Tweet This Post

A blogger for the Roanoke Times wrote a recent blog post breathlessly informing his readers that contrary to “false claims” concealed carry permit holders have, indeed, been responsible for acts of murder and mayhem. Dan Casey presents the report issued by what he claims is the “nonpartisan” Violence Policy Center.

That report finds that seven policemen and forty-three civilians have been killed by concealed carry license holders. This is a horrible body count and no one can say otherwise.

Casey, for his part, is crowing about the “lies” of the “gun zealots” and seems quite pleased to find proof of this body count, however.

It’s gripping reading for anyone who cares about the truth. And it proves the falsity of gun zealots’ claim that nobody, nowhere, can ever point to an unjustified killing by a permit holder. It also undermines the notion that every CC permit holder is responsible and law-abiding.

So, let us review.

Casey presents us with the statistic of 50 deaths at the hands of CCL holders over the last two years. In those same two years there were about 60,000 some deaths using guns. That’s right, 50 versus 60,000. That is .08% of the total murders committed by CCL holders.

Considering how many CCL holders there are in the United States, is this a meaningful statistic? Each U.S. state that has concealed carry laws have thousands of such license holders, some several hundred thousand. That’s several million concealed carry permit holders across the country.

Again, out of those several millions of CCL holders, fifty have turned criminal with their guns. Fifty.

So, yes, it is wrong to say that no CCL holders have turned criminal with their firearms. OK. On that point Casey is right, there is no denying it.

But is it meaningful? Does this statistic somehow make all CCL holders dangerous? Is a .08 percent criminal rate among CCL holders meaningful as a point in favor of anti-gun advocates?

That is for you to decide.

Tweet This Post

Travel writer Arthur Frommer recently said that he will never visit any place in Arizona again. Is it because he was badly served at a Denny’s in Flagstaff? Maybe he didn’t like the turn down service at the Motel Six in Phoenix? Perhaps he was mad because the folks at the McDonald’s in Tucson didn’t recognize him? Nope. It’s because Arizonans are fond of the Constitution of the United States, that’s why.

On his blog, Frommer fretted over the recent appearance of Arizona’s law-abiding citizens carrying firearms at a townhall meeting. It so upset his delicate mental balance that he asked, “Do Guns at Political Events Disturb You?,” and then went on to recommend that if they do, “Then Consider Skipping Arizona for Now.”

This elitist, left-winger went on to show that he doesn’t know a thing about the very country he pretends to write about in his travels.

For myself, without yet suggesting that others follow me in an open boycott, I will not personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons onto the sidewalks and as a means of political protest.

Not only is Frommer unfamiliar with the Constitutional right to self-protection, he is also apparently unaware that nearly every state in the union has either open or concealed carry laws where citizens are permitted to carry their firearms almost anywhere they go.

In fact, there is only two states left that don’t have a may or shall issue law for concealed carry (Illinois and Wisconsin). Most states have a shall issue law and only six have a may issue law that makes it uncertain if a citizen can get a concealed carry permit (Alabama, California, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island). Even in the may issue states permits are obtainable, though the process is usually a long, expensive and difficult one.

The point is, this traveling twit can be standing next to a person with a legal concealed weapon in nearly every state he deigns to visit! Those dreaded nuts with guns are everywhere Artie. We suggest you stay home and hide under your bed from this point forward. We Americans don’t want to scare the wits outta ya, after all.

And for all 50 people in the country that still clutter their minds with travel writing, he’ll be missed. As to everyone else… feh.

New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has repeatedly proven that he hates the U.S. Constitution and that he feels that he a right to harass any citizen he pleases — even ones that have broken no laws. But now he has also shown his lack of manhood because it has been revealed that Bloomberg is afraid of a 200-year-old style of rifle called a flintlock, the style that helped the founders defeat Mad King George in the Revolutionary War. The ancient shooter has Bloomie hiding under his sheets at night.

Mad King Bloomie has initiated a harassment campaign against Michael Littlejohn, a city inhabitant that commissioned a handmade replica of a flintlock musket, the kind just like those the Continental Army used in the 1770s. Littlejohn apparently scared Bloomie when he brought the ancient model firearm to his Brooklyn Apartment. The quaking Bloomie has apparently directed that NYC police attempt to strong arm the history enthusiast to apply for a gun license even though the law says that flintlocks do not need to be registered or a license obtained to own one.

I can happily report that Littlejohn is refusing to bow to the un-Constitutional pressure of thug Bloomberg and his jackbooted coppers.

So what about this rifle, anyway? Is it prone to attacking passers-by all by itself? Is it the favored gun of drive by shooters and gang bangers? How dangerous is the thing, anyway?

Let me describe how this weapon is loaded and fired and you be the judge of how dangerous the ancient piece is:

First, one must have a container of loose gun powder, a little lead ball about the size of the end of your thumb, and a long stick called a ramrod. Your musket must also have a piece of rock called a flint attached to the hammer.

You take the loose powder and dump it down the front of the barrel. This thing loads from the front and is called a muzzle loader. Then you put a little piece of paper or cloth down the barrel, then the little round ball of lead.

Next you take the ramrod which is as long as the gun barrel and shove everything to the bottom of the barrel. Tamp it down nice and tight.

OK, next you cock the hammer and put a little more loose powder in the little pan at the base of the breech. All set.

Now you are ready to fire. Pulling the trigger will release the hammer. Remember your hammer has that piece of rock called a flint in it? Well, that flint strikes the metal and causes a spark. The loose powder in the little pan will ignite and the fire will travel down a little hole in the back of the barrel. That fire will ignite the powder that you put inside the barrel with the ramrod.

BOOM, the gun fires.

And now… it’s empty and has to be reloaded. That’s right after taking the minute or two to load and fire it the thing is then empty. And then you have to go through the process all over again.

This is what Mad King Bloomie is afraid of?

Idiot.

Here is a nice video to show those of you that need a visual.

See. It’s no WONDER the gang bangers are lining up to get one of these babies!

(By the way, this guy on the video is not loading his musket in a proper, military manner, but what he is doing there is what has to be done to load the thing.)

As Tennessee and Montana have recently learned, the Second and Tenth Amendments are trumped by the whims of ATF bureauweenies. From an ATF open letter to all Tennessee federal firearms licensees:

The passage of the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act, H.B. 1796, 106th Leg. (Tenn. 2009) 1796 (”Act”), effective June 19, 2009, has generated questions from industry members as to how this State law may affect them while engaged in a firearms business activity. The Act purports to exempt personal firearms, firearms accessories, and ammunition manufactured in the State, and which remain in the State, from most Federal firearms laws and regulations. However, because the Act conflicts with Federal firearms laws and regulations, Federal law supersedes the Act, and all provisions of the Gun Control Act and the National Firearms Act, and their corresponding regulations, continue to apply.

Montana received a very similar letter:

The passage of the Montana Firearms Freedom Act, Montana House Bill 246 (”Act”), effective October 1, 2009, has generated questions from industry members as to how this State law may affect them while engaged in a firearms business activity.

The Second Amendment to the US Constitution:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Tenth Amendment:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The ATF is under the control of the Justice Department, which in turn is run by the pro-terrorist Eric Holder. How would Holder reconcile the letters and amendments above? He doesn’t have to, because he regards us as a nation of cowards.

-By Warner Todd Huston

So when you think Independence Day fireworks audio productions do you think of John Mellencamp, Kid Rock, and Neil Diamond as the musical accompaniment? Apparently the City of Chicago did. Either that, or the City of Chicago didn’t care enough about the patriotism inherent in an Independence Day fireworks show to make sure that the radio station they farmed the job out to bothered to include any patriotic songs in the program.

Not only were there no patriotic songs in the program (unless you think “R O C K in the USA” is a patriotic song?) but someone forgot to tell the obviously clueless radio station that the William Tell Overture is supposed to serve as the finale of the show, not as the tune that is supposed to start off the display!

The City of Chicago is becoming well known for raping its citizens, but it is also now widely known for doing its level best to ignore the Constitution of the USA with its unconstitutional gun banning laws, its practice of high taxation for little return, its internal, mobbed-up corruption, its high murder rate and now even a casual disregard for patriotism.

In a stroke of genius, Chicago farmed out its fireworks audio to local Chicago radio station 101.9 FM THE MIX. And with the result, one can only assume that there was no oversight at all, that no one in the city inquired as to what sort of music the station was going to put in its tape. And if someone in the city did review the music, then they are just as unpatriotic as this radio station for which self promotion was far more important than the event, it seems.

WTMX is a soft rock, adult contemporary station that plays a lot of female artists and girly men like Justin Timberlake. It features a morning team that likes to talk to Hollywood types when they are in town or are hawking something over the phone, but generally the morning hosts are bland and free of any edginess or informative programming. Whatever the station is, it seems pretty obvious that not a one of them are informed enough about America, our traditions or patriotism in general to warrant the job that the city handed them.

As mentioned, the fireworks show started with the William Tell Overture, the music that is supposed to serve as the exciting finale of any fireworks presentation. And, as the city’s paltry 20 minute fireworks display weakly played out, the station played Neil Diamond’s “Coming to America,” Kid Rock, Johnny Cougar Mellencamp, and other contemporary rock standards that in no way fit the occasion. There were no John Philip Sousa marches, no rousing renditions of “America the Beautiful,” not even the National Anthem was bothered with by these halfwits

The show itself was poor and anticlimactic. At a mere 20 minutes, the Chicago show lagged behind New York City’s Macy’s sponsored 30-minute-long show as well as the City of Los Angeles’ much longer, 60-minute-long show.

The indifference that the City of Chicago displayed in its choice of radio partners, the obvious disregard for a proper, patriotic show, and its tiny run time really shows how unconcerned Mayor Richard “King” Daley is over the people of his city. And, as all these foolish residents wasted their time attending this farce, as they got soaked for parking and other fees to do so, Daley laughed at each and every one of them.

The City of Chicago is a disgrace and this incident is just one more example of it.

-By Warner Todd Huston

For the Associated Press, Tim Klass shows that taking liberties with facts by enveloping them in wild hyperbole can sex up a boring story into something much more alarming. Unfortunately, what one ends up with is not a presentation of news, but a promulgation of a narrative that befits a particular political agenda. And this time writer Klass uses his hyperbolic style to advance the guns-are-evil story line.

The headline startles the reader by screaming out “Powerful weapons found in Northwest drug raids.” One immediately imagines an image of dozens of high powered and dangerous guns, those above and beyond the norm, in the hands of these felonious drug dealers. One imagines enough guns to arm an army with the police sorely out numbered. But, when the story is read in its entirety, it becomes obvious that “powerful weapons” turns into one high powered pistol, the rest being your average, everyday firearms seen all over the place.

Federal agents busted a drug-trafficking ring that distributed methamphetamine and cocaine from Mexico in Washington state and carried unusually powerful weaponry, injecting a dangerous new factor into drug crime in the region.

The “unusually powerful weaponry” in discussion appears to be a .50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol. This pistol is a bit heavier than the average .45-caliber ACP automatic that the U.S. Army once issued by the thousands. The AP piece also describes a few other weapons.

A .50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, AK-47-type semiautomatic assault rifle and 14 other weapons shown to reporters Thursday were among 23 guns seized in Operation Arctic Chill when 35 search warrants were served in the past two weeks. Also seized were 19 pounds of methamphetamine, a quarter-pound of cocaine, 22 vehicles and $60,000 in cash, and 31 people were arrested.

Yes, the one Desert Eagle is a powerful pistol and it isn’t all too common to see one of these expensive pistols in the hands of drug dealers. But the other weapons listed are not “unusually powerful” at all. In fact, they are common as dirt both in the U.S. and in Mexico.

Then we get more hyperbole in this:

The Desert Eagle pistol can “blow a hole the size of a Mack truck through a person,” said Leigh Winchell, regional chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A “Mack truck”? What over-the-top foolishness. A big hole, yes, but this is simple-minded hyperbole was meant to make the one high powered pistol they found take on gargantuan proportions. This is a government official trying to puff up his actions to make himself look better, nothing more.

But, the AP wasn’t done quoting this spittle-specked official.

“Knowing that you have meth traffickers on the street carrying .50-caliber handguns or assault rifles is very sobering and is of great concern to us,” Winchell said.

Again, we have one Desert Eagle here. Not an Eagle in every drug dealer’s pockets. But this doesn’t stop these self-justifying officials from buttering up the press with wild claims. “This number of weapons is unprecedented” adds U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan.

Now, remember. They found 23 guns total from multiple raids and one high powered pistol.

Raids were conducted in Tacoma, Olympia and nearby communities; Vancouver, Wash.; several Seattle suburbs; and Oakdale, Calif., where Moorin said a “superlab” capable of producing 10 pounds of meth at a time was found in a home.

Is 23 guns such a monumental amount from raids that took place over a large swath of the Pacific Northwest?

Now, there is no question that Mexican drug violence is getting worse and has spilled across the border into our country. There are a lot of troubles here, to be sure. But this story is filled with hyperbole that makes a mockery of the real troubles going on and is a perfect example of fitting in hyperbole where facts are needed.

The San Francisco Chronicle is proving the old bromide true. That’s the one that goes: “a lie can be half way ’round the world before the truth can pull its boots on” (often incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain). Then there is another one Twain didn’t originate but aptly fits here, “there are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies and statistics.” The subject of this scoffing is that factoid the Old Media has been promulgating like gospel where “90% of Mexico’s confiscated guns are from the U.S.”

The problem with this “90%” refrain is that it just isn’t true. There is no truth in the claim that 90% of the guns Mexican officials confiscate from drug dealers in Mexico are from the U.S.A. But, true or not, the Old Media use this line as if it were received truth. Suspicions are easily raised that they do so because it fits their ideological matrix perfectly and the truth of the matter does not fit the approved story line.

This 90% line appeared in The New York Times and many other sources earlier this year and still crops up even after William La Jeunesse and Maxim Lott proved the claim to be fraudulent.

And now the SFChron can add its name to the list of fraudulent reporters using this discredited claim. In a story about how BATF and ICE officials are making plans to team up to more easily coordinate investigations of cross-border gun trafficking, the SFChron slipped in this paragraph:

Last year, Mexican authorities seized more than 12,000 weapons that were submitted to ATF for tracing. That compares with about 2,900 such weapons in 2007 and about 2,650 in 2006. Ninety percent of those weapons could be traced back to the United States, ATF spokesman Drew Wade said.

The SFChron simply got it wrong. The 90% is true, of course, but affixed to the 12,000 guns it is not. As La Jeunesse and Lott discovered back in April, the 90% number pertains to those guns that are “tracable” and that is not 12,000 guns but more like 6,000. You see, of the 12,000 guns given to the BATF, only 6,000 proved tracable and of that 6,000 5,114 were found to come from the U.S.A.

But the bigger fact is that of all the guns collected by the Mexican government, only 17% were traced to the U.S.A. According to La Jeunesse and Lott between 2007 and 2008, Mexico took in over 29,000 illegal guns and of that number only 5,114 proved to be from the U.S.

These facts make the bald 90% claim seem far less shocking. So why use the false numbers when the truth is easily known? Why do the denizens of the Old Media continue to use these discredited claims? That would be a good question, wouldn’t it?
