-By Warner Todd Huston

An amusing episode being promulgated by the extremist, left-wing group Think Progress has cropped up recently. The lefty activist group is using a “leaked memo” to smear Dick Armey’s organization FreedomWorks and is trying to imply that anyone that stands against Obamacare is perpetrating “violence and absurdity” at townhall meetings across the country. Does Think Progress have proof of this link or this widely encouraged violence? Not a shred. Is the truth stopping them from pushing their meme? Not a bit.

These lefties are all atwitter because Politico recently reported that right leaning groups opposing Obamacare are rallying their forces to appear at the many upcoming townhall meetings held by the Obama administration and those members of Congress that are soon heading home for the Summer break. It is being termed a “right-wing harassment strategy” by Think Progress.

But Think Progress is right about there being “absurdity” afoot, I have to say. If you want an “absurdity” we might point it out in an extremist, left wing group trying to paint organized protests as somehow illicit! Now that is absurd. Can we take a moment to revel in the hypocrisy of an extremist, leftist group acting aghast that the right would dare gather together in protest? Can we laugh at the bald-faced hypocrisy of an extremist, Marxist leaning group like Think Progress acting as if it is untoward for people to gather together in large numbers to loudly proclaim their druthers on a federal policy? Can we also all remember the many hundreds of anti-war, anti-WTO, and anti-anti protests that have been organized by communist groups, Marxist groups, CodePinkos, and their ilk — groups from the USA and abroad both — protests where thousands of lefties have so often gathered to let their feelings be known to the world?

Anyway, the hypocrisy of a lefty group acting as if organized protest is somehow illicit in light of the left’s long, long history of precisely that sort of behavior is just as hilarious as Think Progress imagining that “think” is something that any of them engage in.

So, we can laugh that “think” could be any part of what Think Progress does and we have scoffed at their faux shock that the right would dare to organize to oppose this most socialist of all presidents whose attempts to nationalize our healthcare is ongoing. We are amused that they are so alarmed by mass protests when mass protesting is something they’ve been doing for decades. Now we can get to a specific example of how truth, thinking, and legitimacy are things beyond their grasp.

As mentioned, Think Progress (I laugh every time I say that) used a Politico report on the healthcare protests coming from the right as a way to segue to its claim to have “discovered” what it is calling a “ rel=”nofollow”>leaked memo” by a tea party protest group in Connecticut. TP goes on to try and link this memo to the Dick Armey’s *FreedomWorks, among others. Unfortunately for any truth of the matter, they have no actual proof that these entities have any link one to the other at all. All TP has is innuendo and assumption. It doesn’t appear that the person that supposedly wrote the memo is an employee of FreedomWorks nor is FreedomWorks mentioned in any way in the supposedly leaked memo.

The one whose name is signed to the memo, a Bob MacGuffie, seems to be a “founding member” of Right Principles, a group that has organized for tea party type events in Conn.

So how does Think (ha) Progress link the “leaked memo” to Freedom works?

The memo above also resembles the talking points being distributed by FreedomWorks for pushing an anti-health reform assault all summer.

It “resembles” FreedomWorks’ stuff? Um, wouldn’t any talking points that are about the same issue and coming from the same viewpoint “resemble” each other at least in some ways? I mean, how different can such talking points be anyway? I’d bet a dollar that any CodePink talking points email would “resemble” MoveOn.org’s memos… wouldn’t ya think? So, should we assume that the CodePinkos are the MoveOn.orgers? Or can we safely assume they are different groups even though they come from the same political end of the spectrum?

The truth is that, ideological similarity aside, the “leaked memo” bears no similarity in style or graphics to the FreedomWorks activism packet that Think Progress is using as a comparison. They don’t “resemble” each other at all. (I have a call into FW for a response, but I don’t expect to hear from them until Monday and will update then.)

Then Think Progress goes off on a tangent about other righty activist groups and by innuendo links them all to this so-called leaked memo as if it is a surety that they all have a hand in the thing.

Of course, the worst part of Think Progress’ scare tactic against the righty groups opposing Obamacare is that TP is trying to claim that “violence” is one of the tactics being used by conservatives.

This growing phenomenon is often marked by violence and absurdity.

Yet, sadly for the truth, TP does not offer a single incident of “violence” to prove its claim, nor does it offer any example of a right leaning group encouraging violence or advocating that it serve as a part of their bag of tricks.

Of course, the “leaked memo” does recommend hardball tactics in any political meeting. The memo says that their followers should be loud and insistent or “disruptive” at townhall meetings. But there is not even a hint that violence be utilized in the memo.

Naturally, the left wing echo chamber has cranked up the false association with a vengeance. This faux story is all over the slimy underbelly of the left-o-sphere despite that there is no there, there. There simply is no connection that I can find between Mr. MacGuffie’s group in Connecticut and FreedomWorks.

Like I said, for Think Progress (I gotta stop saying that, it’s killin’ me!) and their ilk the truth really doesn’t matter.

*Disclosure: I have blogged off and on for groups associated with FreedomWorks but am not and never have been a member of that outfit.

Did you think that the moonbats in Berkeley would leave the Marines alone now that Code Pink has packed up and left?

Please. This is the city that took their protesting of the center to near riot levels. It’s the city where the mayor said that the Marines weren’t welcome and should leave. So we should hardly be surprised that the scum that occupies Berkeley has attacked the center yet again.

The United States Marine Corps Officer Selection Office in downtown Berkeley came under attack once again Wednesday night when a group of vandals broke the building’s windows with sledgehammers and splashed them with red paint.

Officers at the recruiting center at 64 Shattuck Square were not able to say whether the incident was related to protests taking place throughout the rest of the country on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war.

Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Andrew Frankel said the police received a call at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday from an eyewitness who reported that three suspects were breaking the Marine Corps office’s plate-glass windows and splashing them with red paint.

Eyewitnesses saw the suspects leave the scene immediately after the crime, Frankel said. Berkeley police officers combed the neighborhood for suspects and talked to eyewitnesses but were unable to find the culprits.

However, an hour later, police officers arrested a man on an unrelated warrant who they consider a “person of interest” in the incident.

… Deboard said that, according to eyewitness accounts, a group of vandals attacked the recruiting station around 8 p.m., hitting its windows with sledgehammers and “slopping gooey thick red paint on them.”

He said police arrived immediately after they were called.

“We boarded up the windows as best as we could to prevent further damage,” he said. “The landlord is in the process of cleaning them up. He is paying for it.”

Deboard said nobody was present at the office when it was vandalized.

Of course they didn’t vandalize it when the Marines were inside. They’d get their asses kicked and they know it.

Here’s a picture of the damage:

Of course, liberals support the troops. Remember that.

Quick update: it turns out that liberals in Berkeley are, indeed, gloating about the attack (HT Michelle Malkin):

At 9PM on March 18th, the eve of the 6th anniversary of the war in Iraq, a group of persons wearing masks smashed the windows and splattered red paint at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Berkeley, California.

The center has been the target of protests for the last 18 months, and stands as a symbol of U.S. militarism and imperialist wars. The act of property distruction stands alone as the embodyment of frustration of a people whos government does not listen to or care about them.

Police have not made any arrests but are reviewing the tape, said Sgt. Mary Kusmiss. A sledgehammer and a crowbar were found in a nearby garbage can nearby, and are being reviewing as evidence. After breaking windows and improving the Marine Corps logo at the center, the group wearing masks and dark clothing scattered in three different directions, police said.

As of the time of this posting, no one involved has been arrested. The act was easy. You and a few friends could have pulled it off any day.

NO MORE IMPERIALIST WARS!!!

NO MORE GOVERNMENT!!!

SMASH THE STATE!!!

I’m somehow not surprised.

And then it was noon. And everything stopped.

And then a 21-gunner of deafening percussion.

And then, shear, crushing disappointment descends over the crowd.

DAY ONE in Tehran
What an extraordinary day! After arriving at our hotel in the middle of the night, I woke up early raring to go. Our hotel is in a great location downtown, and I took some time before our meetings to buy some beautiful crafts in the nearby stores and chat with the storeowners. After a hearty Iranian breakfast that included delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh eggs, cheese, yoghurt, flat bread and mouth-watering olives, the “work day” began for the three of us—myself, CODEPINK cofounder Jodie Evans and Col. Ann Wright.

The whole thing reads like they were taking a vacation in New Zealand or Hawaii. Everything is oh-so-wonderful in Iran. Not that you have ever heard or read them give the same platitudes to the United States. This isn’t the first time they have pulled this stunt, either.

Then we went to his office, but along the way he stopped to show us the old, abandoned U.S. Embassy. It is now surrounded by murals with anti-American slogans—a stark reminder of the harsh rhetoric emanating from both governments.

Well, gee wiz, Medea, they stormed our embassy, took our people hostage, terrorized them, and held them for 444 days. I think we had reason for harsh rhetoric. Matter of fact, by international law, we could have bombed Iran to hell and back, as the taking of our embassy was an act of war.

Habib also showed us a short docudrama about the 20-year anniversary of the July 3 downing of an Iranian commercial airline by a US navy ship in which over 200 people died—a terrible tragedy for which the U.S. government has never apologized. There are so many sad pieces of our history that most Americans are unaware of, but that make us seem so callous in the eyes of the victims…

So, she wants us to apologize for the downing, and we look so awful to the people who took our people hostage, are major supporters of Middle Eastern terrorism, and were involved in killing our troops in Iraq. Where is the apology from Iran, Medea? Said plane was outside of normal flight lanes and did not respond to challenge from the USS Vincennes. Maybe Medea could ask the Iranians to apologize for the attacking the Vincennes with gunboats and helicopters a mere hour before the shoot down.

Moving on to a different lunatic (make sure to read the comments at the Code Pink site), we go to the HuffPo, John Hallmann: Why America Feels Like it’s Been Ruled by a Foreign Occupier

As Obama takes over the wreckage this country is in, one can’t help but feel like something alien to America has been controlling it these past eight years. The wave of emotion that has erupted with the election of Barack Obama reminds me of the Allied victory in France in WWII. After a long foreign occupation in which foreign German interests occupied the agenda of France, French governance would once again be representing the concerns of it’s populace. That hope seems to pervade America after it’s long neocons occupation. Here are a few of the parallels that I see.

Gotta love the way John makes the comparison that the Bush admin was Hitler’s Germany. Not very original, but, he does it with flair! Or, should that be with insanity?

He goes on to yammer about BushCo ignoring the public opinion. Gee, John, I wonder where you stand on Prop 8, because it seems that the majority of the unhinged Nutroots is against what was the will of the people in California.

[transcription of above] Our final goal is the destruction of imperialism, the seizure of power, and the creation of socialism. Our strategy for this stage of the struggle is to organize the oppressed people of the imperial nation itself to join the colonies in the attack on imperialism. The process of attacking and weakening imperialism involves defeat of all kinds of national chauvinism and arrogance; this precondition to our fight for socialism.

The above from Prairie Fire – written by William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn

Zomblog has copies of a rare Weather Underground newspaper known as Osawatomie. Published in 1975 as William Ayers and Bernardine Dohn were hiding from authorities, and as Zomblog put it:

“transitioning from terrorism…”

to inside work for the revolution…what we now know was a plan to overthrow the government of the United States, tells us what community organizing is all about, and it’s all about the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis.

If you are beyond weary of hearing about William Ayers’ connection to Barack Obama, Zomblog makes THE point, and I’ll use it here, because it cannot be said better:

Ayers was not simply protesting “against” the Vietnam War. Firstly, he wasn’t against war in principle, he was agitating for the victory of the communist forces in Vietnam. In other words: He wasn’t against the war, he was against our side in the war. This is spelled out in great detail in Prairie Fire. Secondly, and more significantly, the Vietnam War was only one of many issues cited by the Weather Underground as the justifications for their violent acts. As you will see below, in various quotes from Prairie Fire and in their own list of their violent actions (and in additional impartial documentary links), Ayers and the Weather Underground enumerated dozens of different grievances as the rationales for their bombings — their overarching goal being to inspire a violent mass uprising against the United States government in order to establish a communist “dictatorship of the proletariat,” in Ayers’ own words.

The plan was to [overthrow] the government by “creativity and AUDACITY.”
The following from Osawatomie:

[transcript]… the system itself is inhuman, and socialism is a real alternative; the energy crisis is the fault of Rockefeller and the oil companies, not the Arab people; unemployment is caused by capitalism not “illegal aliens” stealing jobs; war in Indochina or the Mideast is part of the problem, not the solution; political and social action can change things.

[transcript of above] Organizers must be intimately aware of every problem and each injustice, and they must show that underneath each particular problem lies another problem, and another and another until you reach the system of imperialism itself. The system is designed to create problems for poor, Third World and working-class people. Organizers need to find small solutions to small problems and great solutions to great problems. Our solutions should be drastic.

We need to build a successful struggle, strong organization and a winning revolutionary party. This is a process, which will not emerge full-blown from our minds. It will emerge and change and grow from practice. We know where to begin.

It is with all this in mind that we have created OSAWATOMIE, the revolutionary voice of the Weather Underground Organization.

The following from Ayers and Dohrn’s book, Prairie Fire (more at Zomblog):

William Ayers is a communist. But don’t take my word for it. He said so himself:

[transcript of above] We are a guerrilla organization. We are communist women and men, underground in the United States for more than four years.

[Zomblog] And not some nicey-nice peace-and-love kind of communist. Through his group the Weather Underground, Ayers was planning to “seize power” in a violent communist takeover of the United States:

[transcript of above] We need a revolutionary communist praty in order to lead the struggle, give coherence and direction to the fight, seize power and build the new society.

Manufactured Crisis:

[transcript of above] Our job is to tap the discontent seething in many sectors of the population, to find allies everywhere people are hungry or angry, to mobilize poor and working people against imperialism.

You’ve heard by now that Prarie Fire was dedicated to U.S. “political prisoners,”…one of those deemed a “political prisoner” is Sirhan Sirhan – the murderer of Robert F. Kennedy. Here it is, scanned directly from the book:

As Ed says, Obama is the Code Pink candidate. Jodie Evans is one of Obama’s fundraisers, as well as being a founder of Code Pink who perhaps put the idea of meeting dictators without preconditions into Obama’s head, seeing as how she’s willingly met with Chavez, Ahmadinejad, and the like. She’s claimed that Iraqis are worse off now than they were under Saddam. She’s the founder of an organization that protests military recruitment centers, disrupted an Independence Day naturalization ceremonies, wants Americans to protest on Memorial Day, possibly committed treason, tried to ban the Blue Angels… the list goes on and on.

Do we want a Code Pink candidate in the White House? The Commander in Chief should be someone who at leasts respects our troops, not someone who accuses them of murder and cuts their funding and tries to cripple their strategy for victory.

McCain needs to be putting more ads out like this. Obama is not fit to be Commander in Chief.

The USMC Recruiting Center is still open. Code Pink is packing up and leaving. This means they prevailed?! In what warped reality do these crazy people live in??

I think my favorite line is the one about “covert military operations”. Yes, look at how hidden and secretive it is:

A storefront right on a busy street. Covered in USMC logos and banners. Those damn secretive bastards. Trying to hide things! And again, in what warped reality do they live in that disassembling the United States military makes the world safer? If it weren’t for the United States military, all of Europe would be speaking German right now. We’ve saved the world numerous times from various faces of evil, from fascism to communism and now Islamic terrorism. And in any case, Code Pink must be especially deluded to think that they have even one iota of impact upon our military.

And as for Code Pink’s “victory”? The recruiting center is still open. I called them myself. And they laughed and said, “We don’t pay much attention to them. We aren’t going anywhere.” I then told them that the rest of the country supports them, and they told me thank you and reassured me again that they weren’t leaving. Which means Code Pink lost. Their mission was to get the recruiting center closed, and they didn’t. So how was their mission accomplished?

It wasn’t. The Marines have faced much tougher foes than the measly Code Pink wackjobs, and they’re still standing while the unpatriotic loons are leaving with their tails between their legs, desperately trying to make it seem like they didn’t waste a year in Berkeley.

Back on September 3, the Detroit Free Press ran a feature asking local voters how they felt about Governor Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech during the Republican National Convention. However, several of those identified as “independent” voters have turned out to be far from independent but are anti-war activists and members of the radical hate-group, Code Pink. Looks like the Detroit Free Press got snookered big time on this one.

The Free Press published the opinions of Ilene Beninson, 52, and Joellen Gilchrist, 64, as the opinion of “independents” and, naturally, they both hated Palin and her speech. But, as the days rolled onward, it has come to light that neither Beninson nor Gilchrist are as “independent” as they claimed. Even ABC’s Jake Tapper got snared by the sham independents. Tapper later apologized for his error.

Please note that two of the “independents” the Free Press interviewed appear to be anti-war activists, thus not particularly predisposed to have an open mind about Gov. Palin. I had quoted one of them, but have removed her comments.

Besides ABC, several other Old Media outlets picked up on these bogus “independents” that the Free Press foisted on the reading public.

As it happens, Gilchrist appears as a contact on a Code Pink groups page and Ilene Beninson shows up as a supporter of Cindy Sheehan on an anti-war website called “Target of Opportunity.” (Just for a reminder, the U.S. anti-war effort is directly tied to communist front groups as Byron York wrote in 2003.)

This would argue against either of them being an “independent” voter that might have the sort of undecided view of the candidates that might lend itself to an unbiased assessment of the race. The Detroit Free Press presented these women as if they were somehow “independent” and not partisan.

Yet, even as this news has come to light, Free Press assistant managing editor Randy Essex says that he doesn’t care that he was fooled by these women’s claims of independence. In an interview with FOXNews.com Essex is somewhat apologetic, yet shrugs off any criticism.

“I wish that it weren’t the case that there were two people from an activist group and we didn’t know about it,” assistant managing editor Randy Essex said of the CodePink members.

“If there is a radical leftist or two in the group, I don’t care,” Essex told FOXNews.com. “I want a robust conversation, a complete range of political viewpoints.”

So, while Essex claims he will “refine the voter panel,” he maintains that the original panel was completely on the up and up.

I guess that the definition of “independent” is in the eye of the beholder as far as the Detroit Free Press is concerned, eh?

I almost sprayed Diet Coke all over my keyboard when I read this:

This small act of generosity and support for the group’s message — come on, if you invite CODEPINK somewhere they will eventually be escorted out — has inserted some sanity into the discussion of the McCain Palin ticket.

Code Pink and sanity in the same sentence? Seriously, I laughed out loud.

The message, of course, was obvious. “Palin is not a woman’s choice” was printed on the t-shirts, and the Code Pinkos yelled stuff like, “Women say no to war!”

Well, I support the Iraq war. Does that mean I’m not a woman?

Here we see again the blithering condescension by feminists. How do they figure that all women are “against” war? Here’s how I see it. No one likes war. No one likes seeing the best and brightest among us die. I personally hate it. I cried watching the Michael Monsoor video, and I cry every time I visit the Duval County Veteran’s Memorial Wall downtown. It breaks my heart. But unlike liberals, feminists, and leftists, I believe that there are some things worth fighting for. Some things are worth going to war over. Freedom is worth it. America is worth it. I’m not in the military, but I proudly support our troops here on the homefront and will do so for as long as it takes. We aren’t all soldiers, but we should all be supporting our military and their mission.

But, again, since “women say no to war”, I guess this makes me a guy now. Or brainwashed. Or a whore for the right-wing patriarchy. Or some other memorized liberal-feminist talking point.

And as for the whining about being kicked out of the convention center? Well, perhaps rushing the stage towards Sarah Palin yelling and stripping off your clothes would not be the most sane thing to do. If Medea Benjamin (a picture of “sanity” if I ever saw one) and Jodie Evans hadn’t done that, they wouldn’t have been kicked out. It’s not as if security went around checking every person in attendance to make sure they weren’t members of Code Pink. Liberals don’t seem to understand that actions have consequences. Rushing the stage towards a vice presidential candidate will get the attention of the Secret Service, and they likely won’t appreciate it, and will kick you out. Period and end of story.

Yet somehow, the actions of the Code Pinkos were the picture of sanity.

Thinking about that makes me start snickering again.

Happy Friday! The Surrender Monkey is thrilled with his buddy Barry’s redeploy to Afghanistan talk, because he knows that sooner or later, the kook fringe surrender base will force the Messiah to change and once again call for cut and run. But, in the meantime, Ralph Peters writes about antiwar hypocrites

AM I the only one who’s noticed the silence? Mere months ago, left-wing bloggers and demonstrators were wailing Support our troops, bring them home! seven days a week.

Now their presidential candidate has announced that he won’t bring all those troops home, but will simply transfer combat forces from Iraq to Afghanistan – expanding that war. (He’s discussed possibly invading Pakistan, too.)

And the left’s quiet as a graveyard at midnight.

Where are the outraged protests from MoveOn or the DailyKos? I thought the extreme left felt sorry for our service members in harm’s way and wanted to reunite them with their families.

What happened?

We all know exactly what happened. The left has nothing against foreign wars (as long as they don’t have to fight in person). They just want to pick our wars themselves.

Also, they don’t really have a problem with wars, as long as the they are clean and neat, because as soon as something goes wrong, they want out. See the actions in Somalia that freaked Billy Jeff out, made him pull the troops out, with the upshot being that Osama Bin Laden called America a paper tiger.

The Left will turn on Obama soon over this, since many do not want [us] to be in Afghanistan, either. And, to use a port sider talking point, was it not Al Qaeda who attacked us on 9/11? And Barry wants to go after the Taliban. Hum.

Woops! Here come the surrender in Afghanistan folks, who are not happy with Barry.
