Accusations that Sarah Palin Was a Member of the Alaska Independence Party Are False
Posted on September 2, 2008
The left really thought they had something to sink Sarah Palin for good! Wow! Look! We have youtube videos and members of a “fringe” state’s rights group that wants to secede, who state Sarah was a member! Look! There she is actually talking with them at a meeting! Despite their candidate remained a member of a racist “God damn America” church for twenty years and only quit after enormous political pressure; and despite their candidate for president remains good friends with an unrepentant, America hating, domestic terrorist that bombed the Pentagon and is still proud of it, they were eager to put the label of America hater around Sarah’s neck! Only one little snag. Their accusations were unfounded, without evidence, and ultimately untrue! She has been a Republican since 1982!
While the press scrambles to report on the process by which Governor Palin was offered the second spot on the Republican ticket, New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller has opted instead to make up her own version of events. As the AP reports, “Sarah Palin voluntarily told John McCain’s campaign about her pregnant teenage daughter and her husband’s 2-decade-old DUI arrest during questioning as part of the Republican’s vice presidential search, the lawyer who conducted the background review said.” Yet according to Bumiller, yesterday’s disclosures “called into question” how thoroughly Governor Palin had been vetted. Why the discrepancy? It seems one reporter actually reported the story, while Bumiller made up her own. …
And Bumiller writes that Governor Palin “was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party.” Not true, and unsourced. Governor Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982.
The source given by moonbat commenters here was ABC’s Jake Tapper. Well, he’s got a follow-up they should read.
A day after ABC News requested a response from Palin as to whether she was ever a member of the AIP, McCain campain spox Brian Rogers told ABC News that Clark’s “allegations are false.”
“Governor Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982,” Rogers says, providing some voter registration documentation showing her to be a Republican. “As you know, if she changed her registration, there would have been some record of it. There isn’t.”
Rogers says the McCain campaign provided ABC News with all the voter registration information that exists. Rogers says that Palin didn’t attend the AIP convention in 1994, “but she visited them when they had their convention in Wasilla in 2000 as a courtesy since she was mayor.”
He would not comment as to why AIP officials are so convinced Palin was a member of their party. When asked if Palin ever identified herself as a member of the AIP, Rogers said, “No, she’s a lifelong Republican.”
Bottom line. Sarah never belonged to the AIP, and those that want to bark that meme will be doing no more than howling at the moon. Your time would probably be better served looking for Sarah Palin nude pictures and chasing your tail.
Hot Air has the documentation of her voter registration for any doubters.

Even though that really didn’t turn me off, I guess that it is good. I guess.
Know what I’m saying? Maybe at some point normal people that still read newspapers will see that their news is worng and biased and the conservative wave will become reinvigorated. Or not.
So, even though the Alaska Independence Party insists she was a member (Google the videos), and even though she went to their convention as Mayor, and even though she sent video greetings at their last convention (Google the video), and even though she’s maintained connections with key members including their president– She is in no way connected to this secessionist party in Alaska. Right.
I’m telling you Jay, it is time that you require links from your commenters… That might discourage morons like Lars.
Lars, go back to the Daily POS or whatever leftarded rock you crawled out from under. It is NOT uncommon for fringe groups to attract mainstream pols to appear before their radical nature manifests.
Be educated about what you write about BEFORE you write about them. Just because you read what some leftard at the POS or wherever claim they have video proof does not mean that is indeed proof. They showed a picture of the Palin family which they said was proof that Bristol was pregnant with Trig Palin but that pic was taken in 2006.
Leftard bloggers tend to jump before they know if there is any water in the pool. And it is lemmings like you that follow them to the bottom. Do you like being a bottom feeder Lars?
Yes, this story is going nowhere, but feel free to waste your time pushing it. It would matter very little if it were true. Not all members even want a secession vote, and the ones that do only want the ability in case their rights are violated. That could easily happen with SCOTUS. The group isn’t really even that radical. Plus…IF it were true she quit 12 years ago. Guess what though? It isn’t true.
Gribbit, if I didn’t let moonbats make idiots of themselves it just wouldn’t be any fun. Half the fun is watching you rip them up.
So she went to their convention as the Mayor (representative) of a town. Were there other Mayors there from other towns, possibly invited by them?
Riddle me this Batman - Your candidate smoked pot and cocaine (in high school admittedly in his books), has a rapper supporting him that says Alaska has no crack up there so how can she be a VP choice, and you’re worried about a convention she attended as a Mayor?
Lars - when you can explain that come back and complain about what Palin did as a Mayor, in office while Obama was a community organizer under the schooling of the Reverend US of KKK Wright.
(why don’t liberals put all this imagination to work in the SciFi industry?)
Look the point isn’t that she was or wasn’t part of that party, because it doesn’t matter to me. She’s a social conservative and I wouldn’t vote for her. The point was that conservatives like you were willing to defend her knowing that she had been a member.
I should have said ‘thinking that she had been a member’ anyways I’m glad us moonbats can post. We might disagree, but at least you’re open to other voices. I am pretty unhappy that I can’t post to michelle malkin, redstate or hotair, so this is my conservative blog of choice!
“Half the fun is watching you rip them up.”
The only substantive thing they stated was “It is NOT uncommon for fringe groups to attract mainstream pols to appear before their radical nature manifests.” which is something I’m quite certain you would rake any liberal over the coals with and which is certainly up for serious debate.
Past that they sounds like they’re about to have a heart attack. That’s funny to watch.
Anyone who registers in time at Michelle’s blog is welcome to post. There are several liberal voices there. Unfortunately, most are of the troll variety.
If a person’s genuinely interested in debating or just making comments (devoid of the typical “you neo-cons this and that”)they can do so at MM.com.
I am weary from the Left’s continual barrage of nastiness, rumor, and vitriol. It would be nice to consider ourselves Americans again, rather than libtards and neo-cons. Yuck.
The Obama campaign went off half-cocked with a rumor that claimed Palin was a Pat Buchanan supporter. The campaign issued a press release which claimed that Palin was a Buchanan supporter and that Buchanan was a “nazi sympathizer”.
It must be those infamous “low level staffers”, that Obama has been leading as part of his presidential training, who put out this wonderful POS.
Neo, what do you mean open them up. Look at the comments in this article and the previous one covering this topic. You guys are already bringing it up.
Well, consider that prominent members of AIP say that Palin was indeed a member, that much has been reported widely whether you believe them or not: Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time. Another former AIP official — Mark Chryson, chairman of the AIP from 1995 to 2002 — tells ABC News that “Palin was at the convention in 1994. She was there.”
That doesn’t prove it, but why would they lie? Did you watch the video of her praising them? (but she didn’t mention membership) Finally, registering Republican doesn’t prove anything since many politicians register mainstream for appearances and political purposes, but also join an offbeat party to support the movement.
Look the liberals are running right now with there tails between there legs because they stood behind A nobody like Obama. They had a shoot with Hilary but they let it fall between the cracks. So now they will do what ever it takes to get Obama in the white House.
But now the people of America are now starting to see and hear what Obama is and who he is not!And a leader he is not. A terorist supporter and one who attended a racist Anti America Church for 20 some years with his wife and kids!
Obama is a security threat to the United States!
Well her husband was a member for 8 years. Does that count? And, she spoke at their convention. Does that count? Give me a feakin’ break.
Come on Bob, get it right Todd was only a member for 7 years. Here is the link to their website this should help straighten things out:http://www.akip.org/
It’s kinda funny that McCain/Palin campaign slogan is Country First, and the AIP’s is “Alaska First.” Why doesn’t this article talk about Todd’s membership? If Michelle Obama was involved in a Party that wanted to separate from the U.S. we wouldn’t hear the end of it from the Former Maverick McCains Attack Party.
