Vice President Palin? CNBC says it will be.

Posted on August 29, 2008

I’ve been rooting for Sarah Palin. The speculation about Governor Palin being McCain’s VP pick should be a HUGE confirmation for the McCain campaign that it’s the right choice. With all the rumors swirling, it’s still up in the air, but CNBC has reported that Governor Palin is McCain’s choice:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled “hockey mom” who has only been governor for a little over a year, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain’s choice for Vice President, CNBC has learned.

According to a Republican strategist, Palin is the nominee, though McCain’s campaign has not comfirmed this.

A pick like Palin could completely destroy any momentum Barack Obama gained from his speech last night. Let’s hope McCain is using his head. The buzz about the pick has already done that anyway, but a Palin pick would hype it up even more.

Here are ten reasons Palin would be a slam dunk. I can’t copy all of them, as much as I want to, so here’s a few:

REASON #10: PALIN’S YOUTH COMPLIMENTS McCAIN’S EXPERIENCE
For months, Obama’s supporters have touted the Senator’s youthfulness as one of his qualifications for office (a strategy they’re apt to scale back on, given their selection of a Vice President nearly as old as McCain). If youth is seen as a plus by voters, then Alaska Governor Sarah Palin fits the bill. At 44, she is 3 years younger than Barack Obama, and the youngest person ever to be elected Governor of Alaska. Palin is also the state’s first Governor to have been born after Alaska achieved statehood, as well as Alaska’s first female Governor.

REASON #9: PALIN PUTS PRINCIPLE AND THE PEOPLE FIRST
After her initial, unsuccessful, run against him for the Governor’s office, former Alaska Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of Alaska’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. If Murkowski figured this appointment would pressure Palin into overlooking misbehavior by her fellow Republicans, he figured wrong. Within a year, Palin resigned in a very public protest over the ethics displayed by Alaska’s Republican leadership, filing a formal complaint against Randy Ruedrich, who was not only a fellow Oil and Gas Commissioner, but also the chairman of Alaska’s Republican party.

If Senator McCain wants a running mate willing to be a maverick to Party, but never to Principle, he need look no further than Sarah Palin.

REASON #7: PALIN IS A REFORM GOVERNOR WITH BIPARTISAN APPEAL
Palin doesn’t just criticize pork-barrel spending – she slashes it. A few days after she assumed office as Governor, she put the Westwind II jet her predecessor had purchased up for sale, on eBay. The jet eventually sold, in 2007, for $2.7 million, slightly above its 2005 purchase price. Palin canceled roads and construction projects designed to benefit friends of the prior administration.

REASON #5: PALIN IS UNAPOLOGETICALLY PRO-LIFE
As the mother of five children, ranging in age from 19 years to 4 months, Palin brings a kind of authority to her pro-life stance that will complement well Senator McCain’s pro-life position.

Palin has also risen courageously to the challenge of having a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Her commitment to the sanctity and value of every human life helps highlight concerns regarding Obama’s position on late-term (actually, post-natal) abortion.

REASON #3: PALIN IS UNASHAMEDLY PATRIOTIC
Palin loves this country, and has cultivated such a love in her children. Her eldest child, Track Palin, joined the Army last year, at 18. When this fine young man learned that his mother had given birth to a child with Down Syndrome, he sent her a text message, expressing his joy that he finally had a brother.

Hot Air’s got all the details.

This is such an exciting prospect. If it turns out to be someone like Charlie Crist… well, letdown would be an enormous understatement. I’ll keep you updated.

Bahahaha! Wow! McCain just handed the election to Obama. This will look to the entire country to be nothing more than McCain being focused more on show than real issues. What a loser… Literally.

    Grasping at straws! Epic fail.

Seeing you lay out the little know stuff about Palin that shows why she would make a good vice president was great. Reading that assures me that McCain made a good choice. When I was reading the headlines and read that Sarah Palin was the VP choice, I asked myself “Who’s that”, and your article shows me that she’s the type of person that my family and I can relate to and that I can support, not just because of her gender, or age, or whatever, but because of what she stands for.

When you consider McCain’s health, do you really think Palin is ready to step into the presidents shoes? What a joke. This guarantees a huge win for Obama/Biden.
I wonder what McCain is thinking. If there was ever a time to question a man’s judgment this is a clear example of just how out of touch McCain really is. I am embarrassed to be a republican.

John Roberts at CNN makes HUGELY sexist comment asking if McCain will cause Palin’s down-syndrome child to now not have a mother! Disgusting!!! @ about 810am PT on CNN

  5. Obama Will Win!!! on August 29th, 2008 1:14 pm

    Yes!!! Obama will win.
Can any conservative woman who believes in “family values” ethically vote for this woman who will put work over her infant. This baby, born in April has Down’s Syndrome. Doesn’t this child, as all, deserve a mother who will devote her life and make all sacrifices so he can reach his full God-given potential?

Ha! Just as the PUMA’s were starting to warm up to Oboma, McCain does this!
    Perfect!
    Swoosh! Hear that?

That’s the sound of the wind leaving Obama’s post convention sails.

The Tina Fey’s are going to take one look at her and know who to vote for, and in this case they’ll be right.

    Who stands for Change now?

Oh, I know, boo hoo, this time it’s not just words. REAL CHANGE.

    “Obama Will Win!!!”:

Palin knew she’d be having a Down’s Syndrome baby 4 months into the pregnancy. Obama is cool w/ it if you deliver the baby, then wrap it in a sheet and leave it in a storage closet….Infanticide vs. giving the baby a welcome into a large family? What are you smoking? Such viciousness. You’re also manifesting why Obama has done so poorly with Hillary voters. The disrespect for working Moms is obvious.

The more negative comments I hear, the more I’m convinced McCain made the right choice. Obama talks the talk, McCain walks the walk.

I am a woman doing the happy dance right now!

I’ve been wanting Palin for ages, but never thought McCain would actually do it.

Sure she has left her kids, and I’m a stay at home mom. Does that bother me? Yeah, a little. But from what I hear, her husband cares for them. As long as there’s a parent consistently there, I’m fine with that.

She’s awesome. She speaks amazingly well with no notes.

We are looking at the future President of the United States, whether or not McCain wins. This won’t be the last of her.

Hey art ranchero…”do you really think Palin is ready to step into the presidents shoes?”
To your point, she is relatively inexperienced for the role.
Luckily for the dems, they have chosen someone with much much more experience, not for the VP slot, but for POTUS.
    /Sarcasm off…

  14. McCain -Palin to WIN on August 29th, 2008 9:37 pm

Wow, got news for all of those who have the unmitigated GUTS to trash Sarah Palin, because she has a baby– her family will LIVE in a house in Washington DC– she will be just like any OTHER working mom in the world! Time for everyone to REALLY check their biases– why is it okay for Barack “the chosen one” Obama to be president, HE has two young children, but NOT Sarah Palin to be VP? Barack has LESS experience governing than Sarah does– MUCH less experience with the Military, and being Commander in Chief of ANYTHING– Barack is only commander in chief of himself, and his Black Supremacist viewpoint, that he is trying so desperately to hide. McCain/Palin in 2008! NO CONTEST!

  15. McCain -Palin to WIN on August 29th, 2008 9:41 pm

Sorry, folks– Obama has no real platform, other than to DISS George W Bush, put down success (since when is it BAD to be successful enough to own several houses?) My parents own nine, that is how they make their income– they are LANDLORDS– why does Obama think that McCain owning a number of homes is BAD? JEALOUS? Obama owns one, that was partly paid for by a political scam from a slumlord that Obama funneled our hard earned tax money into! And WHY does the media not want to cover that little peccadillo, anyway? Obama has much more going on than meets the eye- he is a liar and a snake, and he and his wife are filled with anger, resentment, outright hatred of whites. Watch closely, folks!

What does this country does not get?
    1. Employment way down
    2. People losing their homes
    3. Unafforable health care
    4. No future savings for retirement
    5. People in debt over their eyeballs for a college education- then only to find low paying jobs
    6. Jobs sent over seas
    7. Cost of living way up

To me the only ones who don’t get it are Republicans. They are the people who right now who have jobs and haven’t had to worry about these issues. But wait!!! - your day is just around the corner. Maybe tommorrow these Republican Values are going to bite you in the ass too!! You’ll be on ther side of the fence then you’ll realize how you have been deceived. Because the people with their Republicans ideals are the ones empowered are in the positions making the choices are which are affecting your everyday life. These people are the ones who won’t admit it publicly but carry hidden prejudices as to race, age, sex and economics. And for the RIGHT TO LIFE PEOPLE ask yourself - “Do you really need to the state to tell you what is right (Pro-Life) or what is wrong (Pro-Choice)? God gave you your own mind. Well, USE IT!!!! This election is about your economic future, health and retirement not about abortion! People need to have God in their life and with that you’ll make the right choice. I voted for Bush twice(which I have lived to regret-what a liar he is). He promised to change it- did he??? Will McCain change it? The answer is no !! This is an issue only between that person and God - I prayfor that person that they make the right choice.

Oh, by the way I was my high school freshman class president, so I too am qualified to the second highest position in the land!

Amazing, a lady that is down to earth. She is living life to the fullest. Going outdoors, using her brains, and loving till her heart is exhausted. What an example for all Americans to pursue a life of independence and free.

Tackles anything that is evil setting an example for her children, including the good old boy system. Making it clear that independence is the American way.

Yes, she will not appeal to those that want the government to get their education, health care, and you name it for them on a silver platter. Of course these same constituents do not realize the money for these programs only go so far after 30% adminstration costs, and paying off crooks, because crooks are always where there is money. Cut the money and the crooks will leave. Downsize the USA government and bring back civility.

Serve mine with independence from the government and I will make my own way outside of government indulgence.

Palin booed for mentioning Hillary Clinton
    Posted: 07:35 PM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

Palin is praising Clinton on the trail as the GOP woos the New York senator’s supporters.
WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – This might not be the best way to reach out to those disillusioned Hillary Clinton supporters.

In just her second appearance on the campaign trail with John McCain, newly-minted GOP running mate Sarah Palin was showered with boos on Saturday for attempting to praise Clinton’s trail-blazing bid to become the first female president.

As she did at in her debut speech in Ohio yesterday, Palin appealed to the women in the crowd here in Pennsylvania with a political shout-out to Geraldine Ferraro, who preceded Palin as the first women to be tapped as a vice presidential candidate. The reference was met with polite applause.

But in contrast with the mild reception that greeted the comment at the Ohio event, when Palin praised Clinton here for showing “determination and grace in her presidential campaign,” the Alaska governor was met with a noisy mix of boos, groans and grumbles around the minor league ballpark where the “Road to the Convention Rally” was held.

Palin quickly recovered, promising the audience that female candidates weren’t yet finished, and that she and McCain were on their way to victory in November.
