Obama: I’ll Be President For ‘The Next 8 to 10 Years’?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the reputed “Constitutional scholar,” just today said on CBS’s Face the Nation that he went to Iraq to talk to important leader that he expects to be “dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.” So, does this “Constitutional scholar” not realize that there is this little thing called the 22nd Amendment that holds a president to only two, four year terms? Um, that would be a grand total of only 8 years, Barack, not 8 to 10. Of course, the big question is, will we see this idiot gaffe race through the MSM as it would if a Republican had said it?
At the very least ABC’s Jake Tapper, one of the best political reporters in the biz, sure noticed. Tapper has a blog entry on his “Political Punch” blog all about it with an amusing side note about time travel added in just for fun.
Today on CBS’s Face the Nation, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Afghanistan, told the paparazzi-pursued correspondent Lara Logan that “the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.
Tapper zings the presumptuous nominee a good one.
The notion that Obama will be dealing with world leaders for eighjt-to-ten years, possibly up through July 2018, suggests that either (a) he believes that not only will he be elected and re-elected, but the 22nd amendment will be repealed and he will be elected for a third term, OR (b) he was speaking casually and just meant two terms.
Tapper goes on to zing Obama several more times before this entry is done.
But, why is it that Tapper is seemingly the only denizen of the MSM ever willing to bring out these stories? Why does the MSM so constantly give the Obamessiah a pass? I’ll bet you can say why.
But here is a real point to ponder. What if John McCain had said he’d be president for the next 10 years? Wouldn’t the press and every late night comedian gin up the “he’s old and senile” jokes until those jokes would go through the country like wildfire?
Lastly, we have yet one more example of this man’s arrogance. He is beginning to carry on foreign policy before he even gets elected!
“And it’s important for me to have a relationship with them early, that I start listening to them now, getting a sense of what their interests and concerns are.”
You see, Barack, that is a president’s job! Have you been elected yet?
What do you think?

Maybe he meant 10 years of the 57 States of America.
even more fun will be watching the obamabots spinning the comment like the did the 57 states thing.
Yes, I’m sure he actually said this on purpose. It was some kind of humor only the elite can understand. He was only joking around, and all us idiotic rightwingers missed the humor cuz we’re all just neanderthals.
Actually, another two years to handle the extra seven states is about right I would think.
According to the 22nd Amendment it is possible for someone to serve 1 day less than 10 years as President of the United States. But that would be in a very specific situation.
First off, that person would have to be originally elected to the Vice Presidency. Should a sitting President resign OR die while in office and the Vice President takes over ala 25th Amendment, if he/she finishes 1 day less than half of the previous President’s term, that person can go on to run for 2 full terms of his/her own making it possible for someone to serve 1 day less than 10 years in office.
In other words, if the sitting President were to die anytime after noon on the 21st day of January in his/her second year as President, his/her Vice President can serve out his/her term PLUS two full terms of his/her own.
Just to be clear.
Now having said that, Obama is not even close to being in that position.
Well, term limits are distractions after all, right?
And, yeah, Obama is so arrogant. The guy is in the midst of campaigning, but thinks he’ll have two terms as president? To be fair, I’m sure most — if not all — candidates of any party have thought that throughout a campaign and maybe some have even voiced those feelings. Still, this is yet another instance of Obama’s arrogance. It’s right up there with his “I’m more patriotic because I don’t wear a flagpin” attitude.
Grib, what if the sitting prez dies the day after taking office?
The 22nd Amendment is very specific…
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”
1 day less than 10 years is the max.
This is only July! You would almost think that someone guaranteed him the office no matter what he says or does.
The media is in the bag. People, grown people who should know better, are gushing like simpletons over his every word. People mob him as if they were all playing a game that had nothing to do with reality.
Maybe he sold what little soul he has.
Good Lord, I am Canadian and even I know that there are only 50 states, Pearl Harbour did not have ‘a’ bomb dropped on it, and that a Yankee prez can only serve two 4 year terms. I think that I am more capable of leading your country than this buffoon…
Avery, its a combination of all the “little” stupid mistakes that matters. Obama is proving to be dangerously stupid.
hey avery, quit whining and take a chill pill. Friggin whiny baby…go back to your mamma’s breast. MAN I HATE THAT WE DON”T CUSS HERE. If ever some whiny lil’ punk a** ******* **** ***** ********** needed a good chewing of his hindquarters it is avery.
Avery, obama, (much like you in your life I suspect) seems to pull one stupid thing a day. Each little one is not a concern. But when you start adding it up well, we have a problem then. It’s kinda like with you…when you were a baby eating that one little chip of lead based paint wasn’t a big deal, but now, after all these years…well you know what you get, or rather your mom does. You, I doubt, can understand the depths of your stupidity.
You guys do know that presidents deal with leaders of foreign countries well past their terms as President…
Not trying to spin it, but that could be what he meant.
Thank God! It’s been well over twenty-seven years since the end of Carter’s term and that idiot still thinks he’s running things.
What he actually means is that once he is elected he will never get out of office. He will suspend the Constitution and become President for Life, just like almost every African nation!
” If it wasn’t Barack Obama, you’d be saying the same things about Hillary Clinton, or John Edwards; It doesn’t matter, not when you’re a mindless ignorant arrogant spreader of hate.”
So to oppose Obama is to be guilty of hate? Or even a ‘hate crime’? Now that’s just hateful…..
Maybe not hateful… more like God awful stupid.
LOL
Wow
Avery got through her post without blaming racism for the Obama criticism. I am very impressed!
maybe when he talks to the “President” of Canada as well
Avery, I have just one question for you.
If Obama spelled the word potato, potatoe (sic), would the MSM even bother to report it?
Obviously you can’t see the double standard here. It is always thus with liberals. You probably also worship at the shrine of Pope Algore and believe the man made global warming crap as well.
Eddie Haskell in black.
His comment belies his fundamental disregard for US institutions and the constitutional structures that underpin it all. Its not that he doesn’t know, its that he doesn’t care. Liberals have always felt that the rules never applied to them, and if they were in the way, they’d simply ignore or change them. After all they have the moral certainty, and that trumps all. Its evident in Obama, its evident in his wife. That’s the major difference between Obama and Hillary. She believes fundamentally in “the United States”, Obama doesn’t.
And it’s equally evident in HC.
There is no difference between BO and HC in that regard. Neither believe in the US or the Constitution.
They are both, Socialistic animals who believe only in themselves.
Arrogance. He’s already stuck his foot in his mouth by going over to Iraq, and Bush is a master at stealing the Democrats plans. He did it with the no child left behind act, because they were whining about it. Naturally it didn’t work and so they continued to whine some more.
Well judging from the response to my comment, I was 100 percent correct. No, I do not worship the shrine of Al Gore, no, I’m not going to say people criticizing Obama are racist, and no, I was never fed lead when I was a child. It seems like many of you have taken what I said and twisted it, or completely ignored the main point of my argument entirely… That is, when you people could be worried about the real issues, you instead turn to “news” articles like these, and then bash any one who tries to voice some reason.
For example, a post by IgNoble
” If it wasn’t Barack Obama, you’d be saying the same things about Hillary Clinton, or John Edwards; It doesn’t matter, not when you’re a mindless ignorant arrogant spreader of hate.”
So to oppose Obama is to be guilty of hate? Or even a ‘hate crime’? Now that’s just hateful…..
———————————————
NO, I did not say to oppose Obama is to be guilty of hate crime… What I DID say is that you would be doing the same thing to any other candidate that could have come along- Bashing them for silly slips of the mouth, that are neither offensive or, in any case, relevant. Do not accuse me of being liberal, I don’t believe I said that I support Barack Obama- If you were all doing this to John McCain I’d be equally outraged, because even though I don’t support him for president, he doesn’t deserve something like this. And you wonder why people of other countries think the American populace is stupid? Judging from the response to my last post, none of you are really even going to read this comment and just go straight to bashing me.
P.S Sorry for cussing, I didn’t realize that kender would be too immature to take it.
Avery, I can take it (check my site sometime) but here at STACLU we have a no cussing policy by which I attempt to abide.
Now on to the meat….if McCain has said what Obama said the MSM wouldn’t let up for days at least. As for it being relevant many of us here have a different idea regarding relevance. If Obama made a mistake once in a great while that’s one thing, especially if it’s on something more obscure (say tax rates on imported himalayan yak wool) but making common mistakes about knowledge most sixth graders should know is just beyond silly. It’s downright scary.
What other mistakes that make you go DUH is he going to make?
I deleted your comment not Kender. As he pointed out - profanity is not acceptable on this site.
If you are not capable of communicating without using profanity, the lack of maturity lies with you.
Never happen - Osma Obama will not be the US President in 2009.
