ACLU Review Of Latest Supreme Court Term
Posted on June 26, 2008
You can read their version if you like, or I’ll just summarize it below.
Habeas Corpus At Guantánamo:
The ACLU celebrate this horrible decision by the Supreme Court granting foreign, freedom hating terrorists constitutional rights and lawyers at the taxpayer’s expense.
The ACLU, while doing their best to pretend neutrality, seem shocked that the Court “reinterpreted” the Second Amendment as a source of an individual right and not a collective one. I’m not sure who taught these lawyers to read, but it seems pretty clear to most intelligent Americans that the founders intended folks to have the right to hunt and defend their families. The ACLU took comfort that the court did not find the right to bear arms absolute, yet they were cautious on exactly how much of a “constitutional straitjacket” this “new” rule would create. They really are brain-dead at this organization.
The ACLU were very disappointed that Democrats in Indiana will have a more difficult time with voter fraud since the Court upheld making voters show some ID. The ACLU cry about the burdens of poor people getting free IDs or something.
The ACLU were disappointed that the death penalty of lethal injection is still legal, however they celebrated that child rapists are not subject to it now.
Here is my review of the Court…I’m happy about the decisions the ACLU are disappointed with, and disappointed with the ones the ACLU are happy with. The Supreme Court have made some major screw ups this session that could endanger our future. I didn’t realize until this just how important the issue is this election. We need someone that will appoint conservative judges. I’ll gamble that McCain would be better for this than the socialist Obama.
