Obama resigns church membership:

Breaking on CNN from Obama shill Roland Martin.

Remember, “I could no more distance myself from Pastor Wright than I could from my white grandmother”?

I guess grandma is on notice.

If true, it’s becoming more and more apparent that Obama is not only one of the most shady characters in American presidential election history, the guy is totally inept.

Everyone on planet earth will see such a move for what it is: a cheap, years-late political calculation. I guess Obama means to put this on the list of things we are not permitted to discuss.

Monroe Anderson appears to have broken it: Wright out or wimp out? Obama quits Trinity

In the wake of the Father Michael Pfleger controversial sermon last Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, Barack Obama sent a letter yesterday resigning from his place of worship for the past 20 years.
I sort of, kind of, understand why he did it. But I’m also sort of, kind of, concerned about what this might portend for an Obama presidency.

Anderson’s description of Wright and Pfleger as cornerstones of the community is an absolute joke, but he inadvertently yields a nugget of truth about the whole thing.

Obama knows what Trinity is all about.

Yup. Obama KNOWS that the most recent Pfleger Pflame-up, Pflame-out is not an aberrational conflagration. It IS what Trinity is ALL ABOUT. And Obama knows it.

Karl at Protein Wisdom has an interesting angle:

Apparently, crazyass, race-baiting, crypto Marxist politics dressed up as religion just got to be too much… when it came out of the mouth of a white priest. .

Exactly…it was all OK until the white guy said it!

Another interesting nugget I found that won’t allow Obama to so easily stiff-arm Pflegmy Pfleger as a non-factor in his life. Obama campaign guru David Axelrod has been working on a documentary about the “blonde-haired, blue-eyed, snow-bro devil.”

Chicago Sun-Times: Obama’s painful new headache

Pfleger is the subject of a documentary being made by Chicago-based David Axelrod, Obama’s top strategist. On Friday, Axelrod told me in an e-mail that the film project has “been dormant for much of the last two years due to other commitments.”
Pfleger — a headline-making household name in Chicago — steps onto a national stage at a time an international press corps is making trips to Chicago to dig into Obama’s life to learn more about the man who may be president.

It took Obama long enough…too long. Perhaps we should call him Slowbama!

Keep in mind, Rev. Wright doesn’t even preach there anymore. This decision does not mean that Obama is contradicting his dedication to him.

Out of curiousity, why is my description of Wright and Father Pfleger as cornerstones of the community “an absolute joke?”

Have you done any research on what they’ve contributed or not contributed. I doubt it. The problem with you right-wing nuts is that you adhere to a party line, not bothering to do research or acknowledge facts.

  3. G.F. on May 31st, 2008 11:53 pm

    Mr. Anderson–

I think the burden of proof is on you and those who make statements like you have made to provide the evidence that these vile individuals have contributed anything but hate to their communities.

You might want to step off your own “party line” before you accuse others.

See, I have evidence for my assertions about both men (roll the tape). You provide none for your position.

What are the crime, poverty, drug abuse, graduation, literacy and out-of-wedlock birth rates are in the communities that have been morally and intellectually blighted by the likes of Wright and Pfleger? Tell me Mr. Anderson, have these things improved under the “leadership” of these men over the past few decades? Oh, I know, it’s all at the feet of Reagan and Bush.

Problem is you can’t tell the truth without exposing the Wright and Pfleger for the frauds they are. If they are such “leaders” how come their communities continue to crumble while the ultra-privileged Wright kicks it in a massive mansion in an all-white neighborhood with a multi-million dollar credit line? If he were such a “man of the people,” he’d sell it all and use his entire credit line on the people who need it. But you see, hucksters don’t do that and their sycophants (got that mirror?) pretend either not to notice or yoga-pretzel themselves into a reeeeeeal good series of justifications.

    I await your evidence.

Obama can’t get a break. He’s critized for attending a far-out there church, and now he does what some were calling for, and he’s critized for doing just that.

I just find this so strange. So many other things like his policys we can go after. But, guilt by association trumps all of that.

Indeed, the continuing Intellectual Bankruptcy of the So-Called Conservative Movement.

    INDEED, R/R, my brother!

  6. G.F. on June 1st, 2008 12:55 am

    Ron–

If you can’t figure out how his decades-long close associations and how, when and why he conducts the making and breaking of those relationships figures into the character equation, you aren’t putting in too much quiet, reflective thought time.

He shouldn’t have remained at that church for more than one sermon, but remained for more than 20 years. He only leaves NOW? You know, his membership and his escape method CAN both be a problem. There is no contradiction as you imply. If you don’t see why BOTH are a problem, you should lay off the Boone’s Farm for a night.

Don’t think this is all I will be smacking Obama on…this just happened to be the news of the day.

  7. regularron on June 1st, 2008 1:19 am

G.F …I don’t drink boones farm. Wild Irish Rose is my pleasure. I’m joking about that, I’m a Chanti guy.

I’m still not seeing why this is a big deal. Honestly. He went to a Black Liberation Chruch. Not a big surprise coming from Chicago. And in the “wow, what a surprise” department, they do harbour some racist views. I have sat and broke bread with people like this. It really doesn’t bother me. They are weird, a bit radical, and not very bright.

What bothers me about Obama, is his Socialist rhetoric, and his talk of “a service to a greater good”. That scares the crap out of me. Much like Sen. McAmnesty wants us to “serve for the good of the Nation”.

Again, this guy can’t fart without someone yelling “he didn’t fart right”.

Oh and GTL. Right back at ya my brotha.

….”He’s critized for attending a far-out there church, and now he does what some were calling for, and he’s critized for doing just that.”

    Well, yes. Parallel:

Bush took us to war in Iraq. Now let’s just say, for kicks, that he declares the war to be won and takes out US troops on the eve of the next election.

Just guessin’ here — but I do think he would be criticized for both things, huh?

  10. Monroe Anderson on June 1st, 2008 7:55 am

G.F. Au contraire, there is no burden of proof on my behalf. As a career journalist in Chicago for more than 30 years, I have reported, read and witnessed their contributions. My guess is that while you spout your right-wing bumper sticker slogans, you don’t have one African American friend. You have never set foot in an African American church. And, I am confident, you haven’t a clue as to what you think you’re talking about.

Wrapped in the comfort of white privilege, like President Bush, you’re not even curious about what goes on outside your comfort zone.

  11. Terry Ott on June 1st, 2008 9:12 am

“…So many other things like his policies we can go after.”

I really don’t think we should give two poops about any candidates’ policies until/unless we respect for the “the person” espousing them.

If someone who has been known to lie declares it is his “policy” to give 10% of his income to the homeless, do you give him credit for that?

  12. G.F. on June 1st, 2008 9:56 am

“As a career journalist in Chicago for more than 30 years”

Ha! Talk about never stepping outside a “comfort zone.”

Mr. Anderson, as a person who makes an easy, privileged living as a writer, you sure have a comical tendency to not notice the irony of your own words.

I’ve lived around the country and worked and lived with people of all different types and… shocker!…count many different people of varied races and ethnicities as close friends…and in-laws, as I am married to a woman of a different race.

You really have NO idea what you are talking about Mr. Anderson and that couldn’t be better displayed your publicly-stated, cartoon stereotype-laden race hatred…”white privelege.” Comfy little journalist accusing me of privilege while having NO clue about where and how I grew up.

Not surprising as you seem to think that having been “a career journalist in Chicago for more than 30 years” bolsters your “seen it all” bona fides. What don’t get is that such a bio screams (and your contributions in the post to which I’ve linked and this comment thread confirm) parochial, cookie-cutter, press-play, echo-chamber, everyone-nod (at the most discredited ideas) Leftism.

Yes, the burden of proof is on you to answer the questions I’ve posed. But I understand, “as a career journalist in Chicago for more than 30 years,” you have never had to step out of your “comfort zone” to face a world outside a few city blocks in Chicago.

  13. The Machine on June 1st, 2008 10:39 am

    I’m African American.

    I’m Conservative.

    I’m Christian.

    Wright is a charlatan.

    !

  14. Terry Ott on June 1st, 2008 10:52 am

    Mr. Anderson:

I’ll not follow G.F. down the path of labeling career journalists as living in a cocoon of comfort and so on. Depends on what kind of journalism one is practicing, I suppose, and there are many kinds — from war correspondents, to talking heads, to PR flaks.

But I WILL take issue with your inference that being a “cornerstone” of a community is evidence of having one’s heart in the right place on matters like this. The KKK had its share of “on-the-fringe-living whackos”, of course, but you might just find the bank president and the grocer, alderman, city council president, and the barber under one of those robes — or a future Congressman for that matter.

  15. Terry Ott on June 1st, 2008 11:00 am

    The Machine:

Thank you. But, really, what percentage of people out there have any doubt at all about Wright’s charlatan-ism?

Him being African-American has nothing to do with it. As a garden variety apparently (cuz who decides the labels anyway?) white person, I am able to spot charlatans of whatever ethnic variety, and they come in all shapes and sizes and colors and ages; I’ve had 40+ years of adulthood to hone my skills in that regard. When you spot one, you know it.

Do you think any more than 5% of “us” would not declare him a charlatan? After all, if it looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, and (in this case) lives the lifestyle of a duck — what are the odds that it’s an eagle?

  16. Kudzu Fire on June 1st, 2008 11:08 am

In my view, President Hussein is a liar who hates America just as his…former church does.

  17. GW on June 1st, 2008 12:28 pm

A comment on the comments. Obama is not suffering from mere guilt by association. He has a pile of associations, deep and long, with the very fringe of the far left. The wisdom that a man shall be known by the company he keeps predates is ancient. Obama can’t erase the ramifications of his associations simply by tossing another one under the bus (it is getting crowded under there, by the way) on the basis of sheer political expediency. And even that act is quite telling. At any rate, great post. Linked. http://wolfhowling.blogspot.com/2008/06/interesting-posts-from-around-web-1.html

So he says he quits. Wait until after the elections then we will see if he quit or not. Obama has more baggage then an Airport! You really think he is not going to have tea with his liberal racist friends. Yea Right!

  19. bruce roberts on June 2nd, 2008 6:02 pm

what’s the problem?? Obama is a democrat. they are supposed to behave this way and no one is supposed to notice, much less hold them accountable.
