Newt Gingrich gets the petition rolling to get Congress to open up offshore drilling.

100,000 Americans Petition Congress to Drill for Oil Now

American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that more than 100,000 Americans have now signed a petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for oil domestically to ease gas prices. The petition is part of the “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” campaign American Solutions launched last week.

The petition reads:

“We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.”

Next week, American Solutions will deliver the signatures, gathered from citizens in all 50 states, to the U.S. Senate as a first step toward stopping the destructive Warner-Lieberman bill which would raise the cost of gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil, and aviation fuel.

According to American Solutions’ research, 73% of the American people agree that with appropriate safeguards to protect the environment, we should drill for oil off America’s coasts to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. This belief is so widespread it is supported by a majority of Democrats, Republicans, and independents.

“Our message of ‘Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less’ is clearly resonating with hard-working Americans who are struggling to pay for rising gas prices,” said Dave Ryan, American Solutions Executive Director. “The voices of more than 100,000 Americans are demanding that Congress offer real solutions to our energy challenges, and that begins with drilling for oil now.”

Sign the Petition Here.

look its time to wake up high fuel prices are killing us. yet you hide your head in the sand thinking it will go away. drill oil here in the states build more refinerys. jobs are on the line with high fuel prices stop buying foreign oil make america energy self dependent! if you disagree with driling oil in the states building refinerys then maybe its time for a new face in your office. try liveing off $10-11.00 a hour drive 30 miles one way 60 miles round trip pay $3.69 gallon for gas $25.00 for half tank gas ITS A RIP OFF THAT DIE HARD TREE HUGGERS HAVE CREATED iam fed up

  3. jason carpenter on May 30th, 2008 11:22 pm

i understand that oil is a finite resource.so what are we doing?running our nation into bankruptcy so we can be the last to have any?the oil companies are mercilessly gouging us,the consumer and ruining our economy with their greed.its time they were stopped!!!there is no real reason we should pay so much at the pump!start drilling in our country and stop feeding the terrorists that have their hands in the deep pockets of the opec nations!!we stop buying our oil from them and we can become self-sufficient and be a strong nation once again.lets begin drilling and consuming our own oil now!!sanction any oil company that isnt actively trying to lower prices and increase supply!stop helping terrorists by buying foreign oil!!!

Drill here. Tell the Saudis FLIP (not the real word) OFF

  5. Jay on May 30th, 2008 11:36 pm

With enough traction it could be revolutionary.

  6. Cecil Murray on May 30th, 2008 11:40 pm

The biggest question is..Why are we not using our oil? We seem to have plenty. We need to be independent from any foreign country. We are so deep in debt to those rich guys of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. They have us over ‘a barrel’. Please give your attention and work for us as a nation to stop this High Priced Gas Crisis. People cannot survive paying this much for fuel.
We, middle and lower class are barely being able to get to our work and back.

  7. Eric Leroux on May 30th, 2008 11:50 pm

Lets stop starving out our own, its time to drill whats ours!

  8. Nelson on May 31st, 2008 1:15 am

    I agree totally.
We are sick and tired of the rich getting richer. If they had to worry about filling up and buying grocerys on a small amount of money they we get. they couldn’t survive.
    Even Diesel is outrages!
    the fuel eats our profits.
we need a big change for the better.

Hi, I’m the owner of the Conservative Principles blog. My blog, yours, and a number of others are listed on the American Solutions site as supporting the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less campaign.

I am going to create a blogroll (in HTML so the search engines will read it) of the sites listed and distribute it to interested sites. You’ll be able to just copy and paste it into a widget or blogger element.

If you would like to be included in the blogroll, just email me at pzannucci@gmail.com By creating this roll, we not only support each other’s sites, but we add strength to the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less cause. When/if that program comes to an end, we can either move to supporting American Solutions in general, find another cause, disband, or whatever.

Thanks, and let me know if you’d like to be included. Sites listed on American Solutions that do not email me will not be included.

Lets use our own resources now. That way we’ll stop making Arabs and oil company execs billionaires.

  14. Peggy on June 1st, 2008 8:59 pm

    Whoa,
Who is going to guarantee that they can drill safely? So far that hasn’t happened. Anywhere! They always have some kind of accident as they call it. My solution to the problem of oil is: use the other resources available. They can run cars on electric, water, manure and even solar power. What is wrong with using those resources instead of oil? Oh I forgot the oil companies’ lobbyist that gives money to the politicians so we keep buying their gas. Besides it is only a matter of time before the oil runs dry. It isn’t an endless resource. Or did somebody forget to tell you we are getting low on oil? And that someday is getting closer and closer. Wake up America before these oil companies take us, I mean the ones that are here in the USA, completely to the cleaners. A lot of changes are coming and I hope you will all be ready for them. Oh and I wouldn’t sign this petition to drill more in our country. We have done enough damage to our earth let it rest!

  20. Joanna Williams on June 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm

Let the American people and companies loose. Lower taxes for corporations and small businesses help ALL Americans. Start drilling wherever there is oil in this great country NOW. Then, provide incentives for Americans to go crazy researching other efficient options (without government involvement). Let capitalism and true competition do their work. If the government will step back and let the American citizens loose, this situation will be much better in no time. NOT GLOBALIZATION AND ENVIRONMENTALISM; JUST PATRIOTISM - PLEASE!

  21. Ed Speller on June 5th, 2008 10:14 pm

  25. Peggi on June 7th, 2008 8:56 am

I agree. Gas prices are bringing this country to it’s knees. Why are we allowing this to happen? Congress must act now or we will find people who will.

  26. mike harrell on June 9th, 2008 8:54 am

It’s time to open up America to drill our own natural resources, the oil industry has a proven record of being able to do it without ruining the enviroment. It’s time to take care of the American consumer!

  27. Kathy on June 9th, 2008 12:05 pm

Peggy: I’m guessing you’re young and don’t pay your own way, ’cause if you DO, then you sure wouldn’t want to continue paying $4.00 (and rising) per gallon. If you have a family to feed, you want your dollars to go as far as they can, and our government has screwed us long enough in the name of the environment and “Mother Earth.” God (or nature, if you don’t like me talking about God cough) gave us these resources … what kind of idiots just let them sit there and not use them?! No other fuel has yet to be proven to work anywhere near as well as oil. Oh, and there are NO guarantees in life! (GUARANTEE that no accidents will happen … indeed!! Why don’t we just all sit at home all the time and never do anything … that way, we’ll be guaranteed to never have any kind of accidents!)

  28. Peggy on June 10th, 2008 2:53 am

In reply to Kathy’s remarks…I’m guessing you’re young (what does young have to do with oil?) Yes we pay our own way and I work hard but I don’t like it when somebody else thinks they know me when they read a few lines in a stupid forum or whatever you want to call this. Our “government” is the one YOU voted for. Or maybe that is why you guys are all so mad. You forgot to vote! Now THAT I can understand cause if you don’t vote you get exactly what you ask for. Nothing! And try not to cough when you say God next time as he can hear you just fine. God is my best friend you can’t offend Him or me. Just don’t mess up the planet too much or He won’t let you live here much longer or your grandchildren. Oh and age has nothing to do with it. My grandson is only 7 and I bet he is a lot smarter then you. He is an old soul. You must be a very young one. Sounds like ya have a lot to learn in life. You better start now as by the way the world is going you don’t have long. God Bless you, as you will need it & Good Night. And again stop messing up the planet… Maybe you should stop and think that maybe this is God’s way of telling us to slow down. I haven’t liked the idea of polluting our world with the dirty oil crap for a long time and hope we do run out of it sooner then later. It won’t hurt me not at all. I don’t mind walking or riding a bike even or maybe I will buy a horse. Lighten up; you think this will change anything. Wrong! Oh I am well over 50 so don’t tell me about gas prices. I paid 23 a gallon for gas and now it is $4.39 here. Good Bye! I still believe in other resources besides the dirty oily crap. Oh and they do work better it is just that the big companies won’t let us use them or they would be out their billions for their ceos.

  29. Dr. Jim Volo on June 10th, 2008 6:19 am

Not using our own oil and shipping billions to freign countries is stupid. Just think what that money could do for OUR economy. Just remember $4.oo gas is a product of the DEMOCRAT Congress since 2006. What will it look like after two, four or eight more years?
Remember the Maine! Remember the ALamo! Remember the Carter years!!!!!

  30. loboinok on June 10th, 2008 6:53 am

“Democrats have a common-sense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price-gouging; rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies; and increasing production of alternative fuels,”Pelosi wrote back in April 2006, as part of her efforts to convince Americans to elect Democrats.”

  31. Jerry Clayton on June 10th, 2008 10:24 am

should have already begun drilling. Let the drilling begin.

  32. Glynna Hanchette on June 10th, 2008 11:07 am

We need this yesterday. And it’s only the first step. Let’s make sure our Government works for the good people who work for them - or it fails the people of our great country and fails the very jobs they hold dear.

We as a Nation need to more than survive. We need to progress.

We have placed our trust in the Government to have the foresight and initiative to fight for what our country needs to keep strong and stay strong.

    Yes! DRILL HERE! DRILL NOW!

    HELP BUILD AMERICA STRONGER.

Howdy and DRILL RIGHT HERE. I believe we have, as a country, reached our apex, crossed over the devide, and now on a slippery downward movement. I think the ACLU should be designated as an “outlaw Gp” or foreign agents operating in this country. DRILL NOW WHEREVER IT’S LOCATED.

As to how much faster our downward slide will pick up on the slippery slope, depends on the election outcome this fall. DRILL NOW even in my backyard if necessary. Do we want a college freshman or someone with a Phd leading us. Just drill now. If they can’t beat us militarily, then for sure, they will bring us down, using oil for their leverage.

Congress has for 30 - 50 years, in front of cameras/mikes raved on about being self-sufficient in energy resources but in those many decades, not one president nor one congressperson has had the guts to pick up the crusade banner for this. Thanks to NEWT, maybe it begins now. SO DRILL, DRILL, DRILL. Thanks.

    Thanks.

Okay so the arabs are making America bankrupt but there are some people out there that don’t realize that. Its all the rich people who say ohh no don’t drill there reason being is cause they don’t give a damn if it cost them 100’s of dollars to fill up there bentleys or maybachs. The arabs could say okay America either pay $12 a gallon for fuel or sit home not work foreclose on your house or whatever it may be you own. I think America should drill, there are billions and billions of gallons of oil out there and all America has to do is drill it. I mean look at other countrys middle east there paying .80 a gallon for fuel. You would think America would have the cheapest but no we have to rely on other countrys and thats horse (edited). Diesle is the thing that should be the cheapest and look its shooting through the roof. Its time to stand up america and let all the tree hugers know that if they don’t think its right then don’t buy it and ride there damn bikes to work.

  41. Roland T Bradford on June 11th, 2008 1:36 pm

Thank you for giving americans the opportunity to chastize all congressmen whom vote against driling for oil on american soil to increase suppy. China’s and India’s increasing demand will only continue to grow and keep oil futures above $100 pb for the foreseeable future. I’ve already relinquished my republican status and donned the Independent mantle and will not vote for ANY candidate whom votes to reduce our nation to a ‘third world country’. RT Bradford

  42. Barry Ramberg on June 11th, 2008 1:43 pm

It is time for common sence to prevail.
It is time to guide our own future.
We can not be the hope of a free world and
tie our hands. We either access and maintain
our own resources or allow others to dictate
and control our lives. I feel we are the best at accessing the energy needs, and the
most able to safegaurd our ecology. Do we have to have oil comming up on Florida beaches from Chinese and Cuban wells first?
We can access our resources and do it better
and safer than anyone. Lets do it now!

It is about time the voices of the usually silent many, are heard loud and clear above the whines of the few.We have oil in this country and its time we went after it. Going to the Saudis, with our hats in our hand, and begging for more oil is disgusting and demeaning. This is an election year and we say vote them out or run them out.

  46. Bob Selis on June 11th, 2008 8:46 pm

It’s a shame we have to lead congress out of the mess they have created. Let’s start with oil production. I’m sure there will be other directions we can lead to before they screw everything up

  47. Charles Gilpin on June 11th, 2008 9:40 pm

Congress is so busy doing nothing but pointing a finger at someone else saying it’s their fault. Going on vacations, our expense. Giving themselves big pay raises. Thinking we the lowley people who voted them in office and are too stupid to know what they are about, filling their pockets with my hard earned money. They don’t have time to do any thing right. We either drill here now or we need to vote everyone we can out of office in November. They are turning us into a third world country.

  48. Charles Gilpin on June 11th, 2008 9:48 pm

Does Congress think we are so stupid that they can turn us into a third world country? I’ll do every thing in my power to kick every one of them out of office. Give us NUCLEAR POWER NOW. DRILL FOR OIL off shore in Alaska or any where else we need.

  49. Charlie H. Mahoney on June 11th, 2008 10:29 pm

I believe American oil companies drilling for oil in the USA will bring gas prices down. I understand we are a society of such noble ideologists that we feel the need to protect the wild life even if that comes with losing regards for the human kind; I know we do not have unlimited quantity of oil but drill, drill now and while drilling to give the hard working American an easier life, work on the darn alternative energy. I am tired of listening to congressmen like Mr. Dennis Kucinich who insists that the government should give “incentives” to the people who want to buy the new cars that run on alternative energy; I have news for you congressmen: you are so disconnected from the reality and the regular American blue collar worker that you don’t even realize regular folk struggle to have a decent life from one day to the other, they just don’t have $30,000. Sitting around and waiting to be use for purchasing new cars especially when some states like Indiana, Ohio Kentucky and other states imposes personal property taxation on top of the real property taxation… too much talk and not enough work:
Drill gentlemen, drill and drill NOW!

  53. Claudia on June 11th, 2008 11:55 pm

We need to find alternative means to supply our vehicle with fuel; but for crying out loud, if for whatever reason our politicians decided more than 20 years ago that we did not need it, now is about time to work on both, drilling and developing the new, less expensive driving technology. So, start searching while you keep drilling!!!

  60. Clint Harris on June 12th, 2008 11:29 am

I can’t believe the Republican’s and Big Oil have all you so fooled.

The facts are that drilling in Anwar will decrease your petro bill by about 11 cents / gallon. By the time these resources come on line, you will see India and China request about 50% more for their own growth. Gas will still be high, probably $8/gallon.

We need to change our ways. We need to spend alot of money just as we did to get to the moon into research and development to remove us from our dependence on oil.

Eleectric cars is a great start. How about more gas efficiency too. The US auto market with the aid of Republicans have been blocking this for decades. Now we are paying the price.

We need Wind/Solar and Even Nuclear to support our energy demands. Get off of OIL and NOW!

  61. loboinok on June 12th, 2008 12:35 pm

The facts are that drilling in Anwar will decrease your petro bill by about 11 cents / gallon.

ANWAR holds roughly *1.5 20 billion barrels. If that will reduce the price 11 cents/gallon, how much would the 500 billion barrels of the Bakken Oil Formation reduce it? Or the billions of barrels in the Gulf and off the California coast?

The oil from the Bakken Oil Formation alone would add about 18 trillion dollars to our economy.

A far better return than the pie-in-the-sky bio-ethanol that you’re pushing.

“Big oil” isn’t the only one trying to fool us.

  70. Jenie Bell on June 12th, 2008 9:10 pm

Someday biodegradeable cars will run on electricity or some type of fuel that actually is good for the earth. We’ll also have new ways to make the products that now depend on petroleum. And the energy that runs our offices, stores and homes will come from safe sources. These are great goals for which we should strive. Until that time, however, we need to survive, economically and financially, long enough to make those goals come true.
We need to drill here, as one other said, “In my own back yard, if necessary”. We need new refineries, new power plants, and the people running them to do so in the safest, cleanest possible way. WE CAN DO THIS.
We have managed to get ourselves into this mess by not being accountable or by blaming everyone else for the problem. We did this, now we need to correct the problem. With reasonable, sensible actions we can drill responsibly, giving us the years we need to change the way we live. This is a long term goal, not just a short term fix.
By the way, that thing called voting… USE IT!!!

  85. craig williams on June 13th, 2008 12:55 pm

It is only further evidence of the deteriation of the american way, that we will suffer as a nation, risk armageddon, and turn despots into wealthy financers of terror. We do all this in order to placate an insane worship of the cult of GREEN. The greatest nation on earth will fall from within as we dance around the pagen god of earth chanting save the planet stop the warming. A couple of hundred years ago we burned people at the stake for being witches as we blamed all that was wrong on their withchery. Seems we haven’t progressed very far. The earth is plenty sturdy, in our arragance we forget that we are the fragile ones.

  86. michaelpetty on June 13th, 2008 1:16 pm

drill now and every gallon abtained here must be ofset by a gallon that will by law never be obtained from middle east. that way we dont go back to being wasteful and become reliant on middle east oil. offer 10 billion to first person who comes up with affordable marketable hydrogen auto. establish an untouchable group who wont allow oil to buy up a good patent. make the buying of a patent that will help americas energy independence a felony crime.

  87. Laurie Hood on June 13th, 2008 1:44 pm

Oil came from Dinosaurs so therefore it qualifies as natural resource…right?? It was put there by God for a reason and I for one am sick and tired of the liberal, environmentalist BS. We need to stop being beholden to the Middle East in ANY way. PLus I refuse to drive a PRIUS.

  89. Michael Epton on June 13th, 2008 3:44 pm

McCain won’t endorse drilling in Alaska (even though the Alaskans want to) because he’s afraid to also say drill off Florida.

Floridians don’t want to drill because it perhaps might somehow potentially possibly soil a beach somewhere sometime. He’s afraid because “Everyone” knows you have to win Florida in November to get to the White House.

However, that won’t be a problem. By this fall, after a long summer of all those millions of minivans and SUVs NOT showing up at Disney World, Sea World, Busch Gardens, and those pristine beaches, the Floridians will have more immediate things to worry about… Feeding themselves.

  93. Lou Zimmerman on June 13th, 2008 11:12 pm

If Congress would get out of our way, the USA could have a rip-snorting economy and believe it or not it wouldn’t be sweat shops and chemical waste dumps. The congress in general
seems only interested in who can buy the most votes for them. We need an HONEST press who will not just report on the “settled science by consensus’ As they did in Caprenicus’s time regarding the Earth being the center of the universe. That same mind set also gave the world the burning of Joan of Ark as a heratic.

  94. Nathan on June 14th, 2008 12:24 am

  95. Darwin Blix on June 14th, 2008 8:03 am

It’s time to get real serious about our fuel policies. SEnding money to our enemies is among other things destroying our economy, ruining our balanced of payments, our dollar, and inflation. It is by far the most important issue today. It is our most important national security issue.

But lets get real serious. Let’s drill everywhere, especially in Fl where I live. I would love to have rigs offshore which improves the fishing. Let’s also set a perminent fixed price of gasoline moving toward $6 dollars/gal within two years. All of this extra gas tax must come back to working people. TAke away the hope that prices will come down.

As a part of this, the Feds must share revenues from drilling more fairly with the states. Fl could recover overnight with the right energy policy announcement.

Mr Gingrich, Thank you for all your efforts to engage the public about the energy problem that the Democrats will not let the Congress address. Mr Bush needs to release 1 million barrels of oil a day (which equals roughly 800 days worth from the oil reserves. That would put a knot in the speculators(Mr Soros)knickers. China has partnered with Cuba and will start slant drilling toward our shores in the not to distant furture. Our countries future is at stake and we need to drill in Anwar, offshore and mine coal for oil. Why not pay America for oil instead of the Middle East. We need to put 1 million people on the doorsteps of Congress to let them know, we the people are serious about this problem. You pick a date and my wife and I will be there. God bless you.

Congress needs to open up and let America use it’s own resources. We need to start bulding refineres nuclear power and drilling for oil with in the USA. If the spine less French can produce 80 % of there eletricty form nuclear power! why can’t we? If the Chinese and the Cubans can drill in the Gulf of Mexico! Why can’t we? Is our technology so far behind these other countries we can’t keep up or what!

  115. Margaret H Heyd on June 17th, 2008 11:04 am

The American public can do their part by conserving energy but only Congress can make the right decisions about drilling and fostering alternative energy sources. They have just been spineless and narrow minded. It is time for the Congress to forgo their big R and big D attitudes and think like an American for the benfit of us all.
Otherwise, it is time to vote these clowns out of office and replace them withothers who will do the will of the people.

  116. Constance Spangler on June 17th, 2008 11:42 am

We have the cleanest industry in the world–China, India, S. America are all drilling in the gulf of Mexico. We have many capped wells in this country ready to go. Start building new refineries now too. They are operating beyond capacity. Don’t let a few elitist rich senators and congressmen lead us down

  117. Eddie Lee on June 17th, 2008 11:55 am

It’s time to fire congress. They do nothing.

  118. Bob Quay on June 17th, 2008 12:09 pm

Liberals will go to the wall to protect the snail darter, but have no problem letting people starve to death all over the world because we can’t drill for oil. If we don’t drill off our own shores other countries will. That’s whats so frustrating dealing with people that hate America.

  119. Hubert Bertrand on June 17th, 2008 1:19 pm

I live in S/W La. There is a ban on drilling for oil in the gulf of mexico.and Ark.La. Tex and Ok.Land pockets. The way I see it Oil Lobbyist have paid congress not to let people drill for oil.Everybody knows this, it is no secret congress and the senate are in the oil Co.back pocket. They are paid plenty,Let us have battery powered cars.

  120. David Johnson on June 17th, 2008 4:21 pm

I agree completely. Why should we remain dependant on foriegn oil, when we have a large supply here at home. High energy costs affect everything in our economy from groceries to clothing to getting to and from work. I agree we should continue to persue alternative energy, but we need relief now from the high cost of energy.

  121. Diane Maloney on June 17th, 2008 6:46 pm

It’s time we start using the resources available to us - that includes off shore drilling as well as Anwar. It is foolish to let other countries drill while we sit idle and dependent on foreign oil. There is no reason why we can’t develop alternative methods while we drill. We also need to build additional refining facilities and nuclear power plants.

  122. Linda Parks on June 17th, 2008 10:18 pm

  125. Linda Ferguson on June 18th, 2008 2:13 pm

Please use some common sense and open up drilling off shore and in Alaska. We need to use everything available to us to regain our independence from foreign oil. We as Americans MUST take charge of our future and stop being controlled by the “Eco” lobby.
We can live clean and free.

  126. Steve Walizer on June 18th, 2008 4:47 pm

I have watched the price of gasoline go up. I know the people in congress don’t care, they ride to work in limos. Nancy Pelosi is worth over 30 million dollars, why should she care if you and I pay 4 bucks a gallon for gas? They think we should be weaned off our driving, well most are down to driving to work only and you know why, but the politicians don’t get it. The network news people are the same deal, they aren’t being pinched. Politics is supposed to be a part time job, not a career. Vote them out. I’m not an isolationist, but lets look out for us first. The United States has a new goal, energy independence, write your congressman, tell him how you feel. Then write another and another.

  168. Jonathan Wilson, CFP on June 19th, 2008 2:21 pm

Anyone that doesn’t understand the basic law premise of economics - specifically that when demand is high and supply is low, the price of the demanded good or service will rise - need only look at the oil and gas market for a picture perfect illustration of this fact.

Our Country’s new Socialists (”Democratics” is what I think they’re calling themselves now) - are against exploring for more oil, because they believe that prices will not immediately drop because it will take time to tap wells and set up logistics. That said, I think our Socialists (read Democrats) are quite shortsited in their thinking - as we’ll be needing oil in the near term as well as the long term future. I’d also like to submit that we will never be a “petroleum free” society, as there are many things that are made from petroleum - like automobile tires, hoses, vasiline, plastics, and makeup (heaven help us all if we ever have to see Nancy Pelosi without that “mask” she wears). Anyway, Government should get out of the energy solutions business and let corporations carry the load.

While I’m not for limits on production, I’m also against “corporate tax credits” to “spur” exploration. In a model capitalist society, corporations succeed and fail on their own merits. Exxon/Mobil and Shell don’t need the governments help (via tax breaks) to realize the need to explore. They’d naturally do it if we’d allow them.

One final word about the tree hugging socialsist left. They need to readjust their attitude about the things that are important to them. This “save the planet” thing drives me crazy. Unless they own the Death Star from Star Wars Episode I, I doubt there’s anything we could do to make the planet disappear.

As the the global warming nuts out there, I suggest going to the grocery store and buying a big bag of ice (then sending it to the sun - to cool it off). The ultimately flawed assumption of all global warming factions is that the sun burns at a constant tempature. This simply isn’t the case, and when the sun generates more heat, all the planets heat up (as has been witnessed on Jupiter and Saturn by NASA scientists). Easy to find on the NASA website - check it out yourself.

    All the best,
    Jonathan Wilson, CFP

    Drill now.

  170. DRL on June 19th, 2008 3:46 pm

This is the way I see the oil crisis as it stands today, the price of oil shot up because of demand from China and India.
With the Democrats sitting on their butts and ignoring the people that put them into office in the first place (environmental wackos), and every thing else going on with oil, gas prices shot up to above $4.00 a gallon. This has put a strain on everyone to go ‘green’ and scramble to find anything that will burn in a gas tank. It’s an excellent idea, but it’s too soon, ethenol is still a while off, but if it ever becomes possible to drill and tap our own resourses, then ethenol can be developed as we slowly ween ourselves off of oil. It’s a fair trade.
Currently, the price of oil is going down, so is the price of gas, but to see the reduction at the pump will be real slow. Watch CNBC and watch the market indicater at the top of the screen to see what is going on.
DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, PAY LESS. NUKE PLANTS NOW!

I agree with Newt Gingrich’s proposal. We must take action now!

The congressman & senators, wake up or

  177. Del Doane on June 19th, 2008 11:31 pm

I’m tired of hearing the same old cliche’–even if we drill now it will be 6, 8, 10 years before we see the difference reflected to the consumer, well, if we had started this quest for some oil independence in the 90’s, guess what? Let US drill.

  178. Janet D. Pedersen on June 19th, 2008 11:48 pm

We shouldn’t have to rely on other countries for our energy or petrolum needs.

We shouldn’t have to rely on other countries for our energy or petrolum needs.
There our many of us that feel this way. I don’t want congress to become mother or father of our country. We the people need to start depending on ourselves, not a socialize form of government.

  181. Thomas M. Schneider on June 20th, 2008 1:58 am

The terrorists can sit back and let the liberal “Democrats” undermine and wreck our economy by blocking any attempt to drill and use our abundant resources.” Its the oil stupid”

    LETS START DRILLING

  187. Chris Allen on June 20th, 2008 2:48 pm

Why aren’t we drilling now. China is right off our own shores drilling. Canada is drilling, while we sit and do nothing about our future needs. Pretroleum is used in everything not only gas, it impacts us every day. The Democratic Congress continues to lie to the American people, and blame the oil companies and big business. What the left fails to recognize is that the attack on business is an attack on middle class jobs. It will be those people who will be out of work because of their actions. They will again blame business, however, this is what they want, more needy sheep who depend on the government. Wake up America. Drill here, Drill Now! Thank you Mr. Speaker.

  188. Debbie Damico on June 20th, 2008 6:17 pm

Let’s start drilling NOW for oil in this country.
It is ridiculous that we have this supply
and we don’t tap into it. I believe the environmentalists in this country have no common sense. Stop allowing them to run this country!!

All of the conservative talk radio hosts need to start a legal fund to go after the ACLU and the Sierra Club as well as other environmental groups that are hamstringing the potential of the United States to provide cheap energy resources. The listeners could throw in a donation to the legal fund to hire conservative lawyers to over turn the restrictive no drill laws. DRILL HERE DRILL NOW!

  192. Jimmy Thrasher on June 20th, 2008 10:33 pm

This year I will be 68, and I cannot remember a time like we are expericing today. In the late 70’s and 80’s I was exposed to several months of Bible study in the study of Bible Prophecy. As exciting as the study was at that time, it failed in comparison to the events happening today. The all out war between good and evil is something to behold. I listen to Rush and to David Limbaugh, to Shan, to Newt and as many of our conservative leaders as I can; and am so thankful that we have these giants of the conservative movement to speak out for us. What can one person do? Thank you for your leadership. May God direct your paths and fill your heart and minds with His decernment for the direction of our Country. Thanks, Jimmy Thrasher

  194. Ed Wright on June 21st, 2008 1:12 am

Congress, STOP BEING A BUNCH OF DUMBARSES, DRILL FOR THE FRIGGIN OIL ASAP. If you smart people in Congress want to be in the back pockets of these environmental groups and anyone else, that’s fine, just don’t make me pay for it. I, like many are ready to lose our jobs because of high fuel prices. When the fuel you put in the vehicle is more than the product your carrying . IT doesn’t make sense.

  195. Quintin Dawson on June 21st, 2008 10:49 am

Gee what a novel idea. Drill here at home. Use are own resorses. Increase output. Less dependense on forgin oil. Let the oilcompanies use thier prophets to build new refineries enstead of charging them with a windfall prophets tax. Get the E.P.A. out of the way. So why aren’t we drilling at home? It just makes to much sence.Save our country.
    DRILL HERE DRILL NOW!

  196. Bob Rice on June 21st, 2008 11:52 am

$6.00 OR $9.00 gas will not bother the rich that can afford it. It will not bother politians that ride limo’s because they do not have to buy it. Want to see quick action and drilling start tomorrow? Ration Gasoline. Three gallons a week per person of driving age. No exceptions. Heavy fines if you sell or buy another persons alotment.

Nothing extra for taxi’s or limo’s. Limit air travel.

If we are going to go to hell, let’s all go together, rich and poor alike.

Bet drilling would start right away.

  197. J.K. Hanbury on June 22nd, 2008 1:49 am

Are you aware that Despite the huge tax breaks President Bush and Republican Congresses have given oil and gas companies to invest in refineries, domestic production has actually dropped?

Or, that of the estimated 36 billion barrels of oil on federal lands, mainly in the Rocky Mountain West and Alaska, almost two-thirds are accessible or will be after various land-use and environmental reviews. And of the 89 billion barrels of recoverable oil believed to lie offshore, the federal Mineral Management Service says fourth-fifths is open to industry, mostly in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaskan waters.

Or the House’s Natural Resources Committee, found the following:

Between 1999 and 2007, the number of drilling permits issued for development of public lands increased by more than 361 percent. In other words, more drilling does not mean lower gas prices. But if you still believe – as the President apparently does – that high gas prices are a simple matter of supply and demand (and not greed or price manipulation from speculators), then there are already vast tracts of land, leased and ready for drilling, that the oil companies are just sitting on.

  198. Hannah on June 23rd, 2008 5:15 am

The democrats are completely out of their minds. I just found it costs over $1,000 to fill up a big rig truck and Feed The Children had 50 trucks to fill. The liberals don’t care how hard this is hitting Americans who don’t have the money like they do. Children are going to bed hungry because their parents don’t have enough money to buy milk or bread. I want to ring their necks! Start drilling oil on our soil NOW.

  199. Bob Quay on June 23rd, 2008 7:06 am

I laugh when Liberals refer to the millions of acres the oil companies have leased that they are not drilling on. If it was feasible to recover oil in these location they would be drilling like mad. Liberals are suggesting the oil companies only want to mess up Alaska and both of our coasts out of meaness.

  200. Road King Terry on June 23rd, 2008 8:54 pm

I pray it’s not to little to late… drill now! get it done!

  201. Tom Neumann on June 24th, 2008 8:16 am

I agree we need more supply to meet stronger demand but my thing is this, if we open up more resources for drilling, who are we opening it up to? In other words, who or what company will get the benefit of going in there to get the oil out of the ground? Is it a contract that’s put out for bid? If so, what guarantees will be in place that the oil must be delivered to the US market? What price guarantees will be in place? I think it’s more then just opening up areas for drilling. We either need to nationalize oil like it is in some other countries where the prices are cheapest like Russia and Venezuala or we need a comprehensive approach to energy that permits more drilling, cleans up the oil futures market and takes away the 18 billion in tax incentives and exemptions from oil companies and give them to alternative energy companies.

  202. joe sniadecki on June 24th, 2008 6:30 pm

  233. Barbara Coomer on July 3rd, 2008 4:40 pm

I know that we have always had enough oil and gas in this country. I do not understand why we ever had to buy oil externally. It is clear that tehnology exists to have safe drilling, refining and transportation of the fuel.
Al Gore said that we needed to atificially raise gas prices to around $5.00/gal. and now we are reaching that point. A person has to wonder what is going on. The fuel crisis that we are in is unnecessary and a tool of the democrats and the liberal tree hugger groups. I think that even they now are feeling the pain. This should never have happened.

  248. JR Wright on July 5th, 2008 10:30 am

Greetings and a post-happy 4th. I’m really not sure when we reach a proper time for drilling, and to those that wish to wait until it’s $10, 15, 20 bucks a gallon, must have lots of dough stashed, and it’s merely an irritant to them. Most of us (our nation) aren’t in that category.

To me, once we fill up our getabout machines at about $300 bucks a tankful, we will then be forced to stand with loaded weapons to protect it. I presume we are then nearing the time for drilling!.

It’s also very clear that those currently yielding the pen for keeping us in such good spirits; that hug the trees; willing to die to protect a minnow (while many, many kids in this land suffer); carry binoculars to search for some bird in a million acres of specified protected land; carry icebags because of global warming; etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, will definitely see the downfall of this nation unless such inflated egos are stuck with pins to let the hot air out.

I digress but while hoarding our natural resources and using up every other nations resources, what do you think will happen when theirs are gone and we start drilling and pumping. If terrorists are bad now, just wait until then and notice there are very few holes left to crawl into for safety because they will be here.

At 75, maybe I will be gone before finality descends on this nation but hopefully the good lord will have mercy on those remaining, where so few have the control strings and not enough common sense to see beyond the pen they hold. What is the old saying about “they are out in left field” - actually they can’t even find the ballpark, much less find “left field”. Have a good day all! Regards

Drilling is shortsighted and not the solution to our energy needs. It won’t lower the price a cent. We should be looking toward the future by funding clean technology, valuing our coastlines beauty, valuing our pristine areas, and getting higher gas mileage in our new vehicles. I live in Texas where drilling has been going on off shore, and it is ugly. I would hate for the other coastlines to be spoiled like ours has been. I’ve been riding the bus to work, it has saved me hundreds of dollars. We should try to conserve to save money, save the beauty of our coastlines, our pristine wild places, and clean the air for our children and their children.

My vote in the fall will only go to the candidate that supports drilling for our oil. All the comments are great but we need to do what our fore fathers set the system up for and not vote for the candidate that does nor represent the people.

    Please vote in the fall

Congress has let the American public down for many years and we are bearing the financial burden of their inefficiency. Those who oppose drilling off shore and developing our domestic oil and gas resources should be fired. Maybe we need a constitutional to fire those in Congress who do not serve the will of the people. It appears they would rather have the Chinese drill for our oil and sell it back to us. The American public is tired of all the BS.

The plan is, and has been, not to defeat us militarily as a Nation (since that would be very difficult), but to bankrupt us, thereby being able to completely neutralize us. By having a corner on the oil market and radically inflating prices, our sworn enemies (and so-called “friends”) are very rapidly achieving that goal. Oil rules all we do in this country, producing food and products, transporting these goods to market, heating our homes, getting us to work, etc. Every facet of our life is controlled by fuel.
The thing that will put an end to this is COMPETITON. START COMPETING!!!

I agree 100% we can’t afford to be dependent on countries that hate us.

We have the stuff here!!!! I totally believe we were meant to use it!!! I believe in America and the people that work hard everyday to make this country GREAT. We can get the oil out of the ground and have a beautiful place to live at the same time. How about making the cars we have more efficient?? I think that would be easier and cheaper that trying to add electric cars or whatever else they come up with. We have gas stations lets just make cars go really far on a gallon of gas.

Every one wants to solve the problem in their own way and while they argue nothing gets done.
Why not just do it all? Nuclear, drilling, coal bio fuel electric, methane, shale oil, wind, solar or anything anyone can think of. The market will sort it out.

We have got to start drilling on our own shores and not depending on other countries for our petroleum. We are going to need petroleum far into the future, even with alternative energy sources up and online. We also need have ourselves set to give us time to get the alternative sources up and running.

  272. Jane Shaner on July 17th, 2008 10:53 pm

It only makes sense to keep our money at home and to be dependent on no foreign entity. Get the congress to act or replace them.

  273. Julie Tringali on July 18th, 2008 11:01 am

Please stop the maddness that is destroying our country and its economy. Start drilling now we have our own resources lets use them

  274. Bob Quay on July 18th, 2008 11:37 am

Nancy(Eva Braun)Pelosi is actually trying to stop the importation of oil extracted from Tar Sands from Canada. I guess she figures it’s better to send the money to country’s trying to kill us !

  275. Marcia McGraw on July 20th, 2008 9:17 am

We have got to get off foriegn oil for our own national security. The people in the middle east hate our way of life, why should we support their way of life.

We have had functioning solar cars since the 1990s. I can see how offshore drilling and drilling in national wildlife refuges can be seen as good in terms of lowering fuel prices, but what is more important is to break our dependency on big corporations. I work for the lowest of wages and know better than most the need f
