Barack’s latest lame appeal to Jewish voters? His uncle liberated Auschwitz…uh yeah

Posted on May 27, 2008

All aboard the Gaffetalk Express!

Obama claims his uncle “was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz.” (Of course CBS reports this as fact.)

What he actually said is this:

“I had a (sic) uncle who was one of the, uh, who was part of the first American troops (sic) to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps…”

Big problem! Purple Avenger explains:

Auschwitz of course is in Poland. It was liberated by the Red Army on Jan 27 1945. Poland, on most maps is usually placed to the east of Germany, although we may need to investigate the geography textbooks the Messiah used as a child…

The Allies were wrapping up the battle of the bulge in late January of 1945 — the Rhine crossings were still well into the future when Auschwitz was liberated. The first, the Remagen railway bridge which was discovered intact, was crossed on March 7 1945.

Of course it goes without saying that the media has thus far failed to call the Messiah on this apparently obviously outrageous lie. Unless Obama’s “uncle” was serving in the Red Army, its a pretty safe bet he was many hundreds of miles from Auschwitz on its day of liberation.

The video (via Hotair):

John Hinderaker over at Power Line has is right (and this is before this latest “Doh!” was reported):

Barack Obama must be the most gaffe-prone politician in memory.

Steven Bainbridge takes issue with the description by pointing to Slate’s “The Complete Bushisms” as a counterpoint.

OK, President Bush can make us all cringe. No denying that here. However, there’s a big difference between the president’s stammering and stumbling and the window into the soul of Obama that seems to open wider as the campaign progresses. Bush is a verbal clutz, but the “365 Days of Bush Stupidity” calendars in mall kiosks reveal nothing hidden about Bush, but plenty about the lack of grace and mercy that defines schadenfreudistic BDS sufferers. OTOH, Obama’s “gaffes” (outright fabrication in this case) have begun painting a picture of a guy America doesn’t really know all that much about…and a guy who really doesn’t know all that much about anything (you name the topic, he’s flubbed it). The more we see of him, the worse he seems and the more manifestly dangerous the prospect of an Obama presidency becomes.

Update from Gateway Pundit: Turns out this is re-gaffe. Obama just adds a little extra spice to yesterday’s recipe:

Barack Obama spoke about Auschwitz back in 2002 in his speech against the Iraq War:

My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton’s army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain. I don’t oppose all wars.

Newsmax reported on this back in April:

All this would be great if it weren’t pure fiction. For starters, the Nazis destroyed the Treblinka death camp in 1943 after shooting the last prisoners, a group of Jewish girls.

Then there is the problem of the locations of Treblinka and Auschwitz. Both Nazi death camps were located inside Poland. Thus, no American troops ever entered the camps until years after the war was over.

Auschwitz was taken by the Soviet Union after the Nazis evacuated most of the prisoners. The retreating Nazis left those too weak or sick to walk behind. The 322nd Rifle Division of the Red Army liberated them on Jan. 27 1945.

So, it’s not the first time he talked about US soldiers at Auschwitz. It’s just the first time he mentioned that his crazy uncle was there.

Update: The Obama Department of Gaffe Control responds:

“Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II – especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically,” [campaign spokes-hack Bill] Burton says.

Oh yeah, I can see how someone as bright, articulate and smooth as B.O. would confuse “Buchenwald” and “Auschwitz.” Problem is, as mentioned above, he has already dorked up the story with his grandpa as the main character in the previous “Auschwitz liberated by American troops” stanza.

I bought one of those Bush calendars. It was a fraud. The only funny quote in it was the one on the cover of the box. All the daily quotes were just minor grammatical blunders. Not even any made-up-word Bushisms.

The major gaffe in there is that Obama has no American uncles, his mother is an only child and if he did have an uncle, he would be far too young to serve in WWII. Lies all the way around, but in his defense, he is a Democrat. They would kick him out if he didn’t lie through his teeth.

Tha;ts a hello of gaffe. Un-real.What if his uncle did fight in WWII, but for the Communist back-stabin russians?

Wouldn’t suprise me, being that Obama is lifting passages right out of “The Communist Manifesto”.

One has only to study the people Obama has studied. According to their radical philosphy it is perfectly OK to decieve and/or lie as long as the desired outcome is achieved. One such Saul Alinsky (You remember that guy; he is the one Hillary wrote about in her college thesis. It’s also one of the reasons Obama and Hillary have so much in common.), clearly defines his methods and emphasizes that the deceit must appear natural and pleasing to the audience. I have not once seen nor heard a single speech by Obama where this technique was not employed. And you know what…I don’t care! What does concern me is all the fools listening to his platitudes. The country is sick!

Sounds like revisionist left wing history with a touch of Afrocentrist flare.
