Minutemen stopped from policing the border
Posted on May 11, 2008
The San Diego Minutemen, a group of people who oppose ILLEGAL immigration, applied for a road to clean under California’s “Adopt a Road” program. Under this program a group cleans the debris from the road and a sign is erected showing what group is responsible. The Minutemen were assigned a stretch of road near a border crossing where illegals enter the country. The Minutemen cleaned their assigned road (probably littered by illegals, oh the irony) for about six weeks before it was decided that the sign with their name on it had to come down.
The Minutemen have gone to court and asked a Federal Judge to rule on their motion to have the sign put back up. The Minutemen and their lawyers argue that removing the sign is nothing more than politicians bowing to pressure from open borders advocates and the Latino caucus. The State has offered to move the Minutemen to another road but certain legislators are looking to pass laws as to which groups could sponsor a road. I am willing to bet that if they define groups the Minutemen will be excluded but La Raza and all the other open border groups will be included. If you are an advocate for breaking the law then you will be part of the program.
It seems to me that the State of California is being pretty stupid with regard to free labor. The groups that sponsor roads clean them FOR FREE. This is labor that California does not have to pay for and it involves picking up garbage off the street. Seems that the idea that illegals do jobs most Americans will not is shot down here. Not only are Americans doing them they are doing them for free.
The Minutemen should tell the state to go screw itself and withdraw from the program. Other groups in the state who support the Minutemen and support the rule of law could ask California to remove their signs and drop out of the program. Let California figure out how to pay for road clean up. They can start by using inmates on chain gangs. Many of them are illegals so that would be a poetic justice for the Minutemen.
This is one more example of liberalism run amok and it is another example of why I do not volunteer to do things for my state. I didn’t adopt a highway, I don’t clean up the Bay and I don’t help with anything else because no good deed goes unpunished.
Maybe the Minutemen should lead a national campaign for people to stop volunteering. Maybe that would get the attention of some of the pin heads in government. Then again, maybe it would be better if they withdrew from the program and then went to that same road to look for illegals sneaking in.
Which I might add is another job they are doing for free because the government simply will not.
