Hey, Obama! How many states are there? Well, ummm…we’ve been to 57 with one left to go, then subtract Hawaii and Alaska…ummmm…. Unbelievable! This guy wants to be the President of the U.S. and doesn’t know how many states we have! Surely this was from exhaustion. I just called my eight year old son in here and asked him to tell me what this man just said wrong! His reaction was priceless!
Suitably Flip has a picture of Obama’s customized flag lapel pin of the 57 states of America.
But if John McCain did this — if he mistakenly said he’d visited 57 states — the media would be all up in his grill, accusing him of a senior moment. Just saying….

I’m sure the poor man meant 47, not 57, and simply slipped up. It happens. I’d much rather call him on important things where he totally blows it, and these are legion, than on something as trivial as this.
As a 5th generation native of Hawaii, I am used to mainlanders saying how things are different “in the States”, despite the fact that Hawaii has been one since I was 6 years old. Most people are ignorant and you learn to ignore it.

Been to hawaii…lovely place ya got there….very green….lotsa rainy goodness, and pretty cool local food….of course you also have the per capita highest incidence of kidney failure (related heavily to that diet) and no trauma center on the big island, so as long as you don’t hurt yourself it really kinda is paradise.
One of the points is if he is this tired after just campaigning, how will he handle four years of being president?

All that and he even thinks The Great Lakes are in Oregon..He is in his 40s and Hillary is 60 and still out there looking so full of life..How is this man going to last the entire general election..He hasnt seen anything yet. Why is it when Bush doesn’t pronounce a word correctly he is stupid. But when Obama can’t get the number of states correctly he is tired. He must have been tired the 20 years he spent going to his church with the nut case pastor. He never noticed the ranting of that mad man. It is in fact the number of primaries/caucuses that have happened thus far. This includes US territories, like: American Samoa, Guam, US Virgin Islands, Guam, Citizens/Democrats abroad, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. There you have it. SEVEN.
So instead of not knowing how many states there are in the Union, Obama in reality just used “states” instead of “primaries” because in reality, 50 of 57 primaries thus far WERE STATES.

Right, you counted seven non-state primaries. So, to get to 57, we’d have to have the seven ones you quoted, plus all 50 states - 50 plus 7. Too bad we haven’t had all fifty states. To date, the Dems have had 51 primaries, and that is including the non-state primaries you noted plus Florida and Michigan.
Now, Obama did not campaign in Florida and Michigan, so that means of the 51, he has only been to 49 primaries, right? And he didn’t go to Alaska and Hawaii, which would be 47. And that would explain his accidentally saying 47 instead of 57, right? Except that he said he’s “been” to 57 - he has not been to Guam, Samoa, or “America Democrats,” among other non-state primaries, to campaign. Thus, the numbers do not make sense. There is no way to explain the 57 number other than he’s a moron or he meant something else.

57 is an answer that is close enough in the public schools. It doesn’t matter that he got it wrong. 57 is close to 50 so he gets credit. They both start with a 5 after all.

I think I might be the first to post this here. Obama’s “57 states” is not a slip of the tongue. He’s referring, not to the United States, but to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which has 57 member states.

I believe Obama is neither a Christian nor a Muslim. But, he does have a soft spot for the Muslims. I think that it was far more likely that he was thinking in terms of the 57 “pools” of delegates available in the Democratic nominating process. These would be the 50 states, plus Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Americans Abroad and the Superdelegates. For people who are immersed in the process, it is not unusual to talk in shorthand, and it is likely that this comment was just a spill-over of insider talk into the public arena. The 57 states of Islam thing is just absolutely ridiculous. You actually think that Obama doesn’t know there are 50 US states but does know that there are 57 Islamic nations? It’s just a way for racists to bring up the Obama is a Muslim canard again, even though it has been thoroughly discredited.

After all, in the film, if you recall, the candidate was a former soldier who had been captured and tortured by enemies in a Communist Asian nation and brainwashed while in long-term captivity. So just a quick review of 9th grade english class. Hyperbole is an exaggeration used for emphasis. What would the emphasis be here? It is quite apparent that this is a slip of the tounge. No he is not invading the middle east nor is he planning to annex canada/mexico. And for those of you who think this is a joke, would you mind telling me the pretense? It woud be like: QUESTION: “How many wheels are on a car?” RESPONSE: “Six” There was no joke or implication just a man making a small error is a speech. If stupid little things like this are how we are to pick out next president, this is a sad time indeed.

If you want to know the truth, they ALL suck, there isn’t a one of them who should be or is fit to be president, but our standards have dropped to the point,, it’s now become who is the least apt to bring down the economy more, or get us into a war. Until we can find someone qualified to actually lead this great country of ours it will continue to spiral downward, with the best candidates only managing to slow the descent.

The Democrats have plenty of blood on their hands, and now they want to do the same to the Iragi people. Shame on them.
The worst President in recent history is Carter. He allows the Soviet Uniion to advance in many parts of the world. During his presidency, Communism almost swept South America. He created the extremist Iranian government by dumping the pro-American Iranian Shah Monarchy. He almost botched the Isreali-Egyptian peace initiative. The inflation rate and interest rate under Carter were 18%, and unemployment rate was 6.5%.
Many idiots also don’t realize that most of Clinton’s policies were dictated by Republican Congress: NAFTA, welfare reform, no tax increase, fiscal restraint, don’t ask-don’t tell, no national health care.
Worse, under his watch US embassies, US naval ships and American citizens were attacked by terrorists all over the world. What did Clinton really accomplish ? None. Except cigar-smoking by Monica.

No terrorist attacks on American soil.
Al Qaeda badly defeated in Iraq and loss of prestige in the world.
Economic boom after tax cut.
Unemployment rate of 5%.
Interest rate between 3 and 6%.
GDP grouwth of more than 3%.
Iraq war will prove to be the beginning of the end of muslim extremism in the world.
Isn’t it better to fight Al Qaeda in Irag instead of living in daily fear of being attacked by Al Qaeda roaming freely around the world ?

Of course, he misspoke and used the word “states” rather than “contests,” but surely we could forgive him for that. To suggest that a presidential candidate of his caliber would forget the number of states he hopes to govern is not only ludicrous, but it reflects poorly on your intelligence. Get real, people.
