Obama’s Wright Damage Control
Posted on April 29, 2008
This was inevitable if Obama wanted to remain a viable candidate. His pastor has stolen his thunder, and hogged the spotlight with his hateful rhetoric. Obama had to do this, and no doubt his campaign was seeing damage in the polls that required this big of a response.

It wasn’t the fact that Wright has been spewing this same recycled crap for years that finally got Obama mad. It was that he finally realized it was hurting his campaign. And he was personally miffed by Wright’s insults against him.
Too little too late?
So now that his campaign is getting hurt he throws his mentor under the bus as he did his grandma. What other way can you see it other then that? There is no way, no how, Obama did NOT know what Wright was like. His speech yesterday was no different then the sermons he spewed from his racist mouth for decades. Additionally, he says he is no theologian when the Church pushed that black liberation theology hard for years also. Puhlease.
And why now? Why not when the videos first saw the light of day? Or how the 20 years he sat in the pews?
Major Garret is ripping Obama. Notes that Obama only saw this as “shocking” when it threatened to hurt his own political fortunes; when he thought he could ride his way through it, he defended him and engaged in apologism for his vile racism and crank conspiracy theories and vicious anti-American hatred. Only when, as Obama says, Wright shows Obama disrespect by talking publicly does Obama suddenly realize this is all just so awful.
Also notes that Obama’s previous claim — judge the “measure of the man” according to all his beliefs, et. — is now scuttled, as Wright offered up his measure and it was precisely the measure we took from those “out of context” soundbites.
Oh, I’m sure the media will now jump for joy, and claim that Obama has finally put this issue behind him. Whatever…we all know this was forced. MacRanger said this is too late.
Indeed, the damge is done…but the nutroots want to hang on to this glittered up loser with everything they’ve got! I’m glad to see they’re so stupid. I’ll be with Don Surber who’s got the popcorn.

A very hesitant and reluctant speech
I’m with John Ray.
Beyond that, though it may be picking at scabs, did I understand Obama to say that he didn’t have any problem with Wright’s NAACP presentation? From the scenes I saw, Wright’s behavior was beyond the pale. If it was payback, fine.
For what little it’s worth, I think Obama is an absolute coward for sitting in the Trinity pews for years without saying a word. He could have actually done some good during his years by “speaking truth to power” to Wright. As things stand, Obama seeks the support of voters when he didn’t have the courage to stand up to a foul-mouthed bully of a pastor.
In foreign affairs, I see Neville (”appeasement”) Chamberlain written all over him. And in tax policy, his command of the economics of tax policy are a disgrace.
Isn’t it just a gift from the Gods that the Rev. Wright seemed to give Obama this great seconds chance to have that conversation on race.
What nonsense !!
Frankly, the whole thing felt fishy from the beginning. Making it worse was the effort to blame Clinton for setting up the Nation Press Club affair where Wright could oh so well re-self destruct. Then there was the mystery pollster asking about Wright/Obama in NC. But, of course, it would be topped off by Obama’s attempt at a Sister Soulja Moment. And followed by the swooning MSM in a repeat of the Philadelphia speech calling him “courageous”. Obama has now been declared “courageous” when he didn’t throw Wright under the bus in the Philadelphia speech and “courageous” when he threw Wright under the bus this time.
Only a political novice would ever believe that this was a coincidence. Even Karl Rove isn’t this obvious. This is ham-handed political manipulation if I ever saw it.
The whole thing was just too easy that it stinks to high heaven.
And, of course, it still doesn’t explain why Obama sat in Trinity UCC for 20 years ?
Does it always take Obama 20 years to really size up those who he associates with ? Just imagine what could go wrong in his first 8 or 4 years.
