ACLU Extremely Upset with Supreme Court Decision on Indiana Voter ID Law

Update: Obama upset over the ruling too.

Heh!

Ken Falk, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, said he hadn’t reviewed the decision, but he was “extremely disappointed” by it. Falk has said voter ID laws inhibit voting, and a person’s right to vote “is the most important right.” The ACLU brought the case on behalf of Indiana voters.

Common sense wins at the SCOTUS! The usual suspects disent.

The law “is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting ‘the integrity and reliability of the electoral process,’” Justice John Paul Stevens said in an opinion that was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Anthony Kennedy.

Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas also agreed with the outcome, but wrote separately.

Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter dissented.

Now if we can only get this enforced in the other 49 states, there’d be a lot of dead Democrats no longer voting.

    Welp, like I said on my “Morning Coffee” this morning….no one has ever presented a valid reason, at least to me, how proving who you say you are would violate anyone’s rights. :/

    I don’t see how showing an ID to vote is any different than showing one to board a plane. We have to prove who we say we are in order to keep people from doing illegal things.

    Lets see you need an I.D. for everything and for them to say this will hurt the old and the poor is all B.S. If you don’t have some kind of ID in this country you will not get anything. And thats called security just as the Katrina hand out showed how people used false ID to get money and they never even lived in the area. So that shows the importance of having an ID to vote and of course the Democrats are going to cry because they can’t get the Illegal votes they so need to win. And for the thing of the poor they are giving picture ID’s for free!
