Bloomberg: Obamas Donated Less Than 1% of Their 2000-2004 Income

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign.

For someone who wants to dip into our wallets with such zeal and without our consent, he sure has a problem setting the example.

Not surprising. It is a well-documented and an unassailable FACT that the people who believe most in freedom from government tax shackles (read: Conservative Christians) give more to charity than any other group. And it’s not only cash. It’s volunteer time, self-sacrifice.

The Democrats pretend to be the party of “the poor” but most don’t lift a finger or can’t force themselves to cut a check. They’d rather go the easier route and steal your money, all the time assuming the self-worship pose of crusaders for the “least of these.” In fact, what they are really about is expanding centralized government power by creating more and more dependent classes. They don’t give a rip about the poor generally.

Recall global scolder Al Gore’s pathetic record:

In 1998, then-Vice President Al Gore was criticized for donating only $353 to charity in 1997 despite earning $197,729.

The Obama’s upped their “charitable” giving after his book-fueled windfall in 2005 and 2006. However, the “charities” they gave to include almost $30K to the Ministry of Hate at Trininty United Church of Christ, more than $13K to the Congressional Black Caucus (is this seriously considered a “charity?”) and more than $30K to an organization called “CARE” (no folks, not CAIR).

“It’s not shocking,” James said of the Obamas’ philanthropy. “It’s about par for the course for Americans.”

Survey says: XXX. Kind of like Al Gore and his mega-energy-sucking mansion. Wag your finger at the rest of us while being part of the problem. Do as I say, not as I do. I’ll make you, says Obama. And he will. His “Global Poverty Act” is a scary, scary shakedown of the American taxpayer.

In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7 million last year to help the poor and to medical research.

According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday, the Cheneys’ adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.

The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney’s stock options from Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.

The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to several charities, including George Washington University’s Cardiothoracic Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.

At least one side of the family is generous with THEIR OWN money.
