New York Governor Eliot Spitzer Linked to Prostitution Ring
Posted on March 10, 2008
Update: Michelle Malkin reports on what Spitzer’s plans were before this news broke. It had to do with helping the abortion industry.
Update from NY Times: Wiretaps?
Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.
The wiretap recording, made during an investigation of a prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP, captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9…
Update: Eliot Spitzer basically just admitted he has failed obligations to his family, etc. Very short statement that confirms and apologizes. Michelle Malkin reports he is expected to resign, though he didn’t in this speech. She also reports on indictment.
The media seems shocked! The Democrat Governor of New York, promiser of cleaning up New York is being reported to be involved in a prostitution ring. He was known as “Mr. Clean”, and he has a wife and three children. I’ll update when he gives his statement, but right now he is being linked as a client. It is being reported that Eliot Spencer informed his most senior administration officials this morning that he is involved in a prostitution ring called Emperor’s Club VIP.
NY Times:
Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He is set to make an announcement about 2:15 this afternoon at his Manhattan office.
Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children…
Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.
I’m curious if the NY Times has jumped the gun on any accusations. With a history of prosecuting and busting up these rings, I wonder if he could have helped bust this up and that be his involvement. That is the only positive alternative I can come up with. If he was a client it will be very life changing. His political career will be over and his family will be put in jeapordy.

New Details:
The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13.
Mr. Spitzer appeared on a CNBC television show at 7 a.m. the next morning. Later in the morning, he testified before a Congressional committee.
An affidavit filed in federal court in Manhattan in connection with that case lists six conversations between the man, identified as Client 9, and a booking agent for the Emperors Club.
Never liked him. Always thought he looked like a punk, talked like a punk, acted like a punk - I wrote that somewhere but can’t find it.

Hey, Jay, have you noticed how far into the Times and CNN stories it went before mentioning Spitzer is a Democrat?
So, um… who are clients 1 through 8?
By the way, prostitution should not only be legal, but mandatory.
Mr Spitzer
“there is no exceptions I’m tough on crime, on less of corse it’s me that is the criminal”
The fact that it is even a question if he is going to step down is a joke.
If this happens to a law enforcement officer he would be immediatley suspended without pay and people just like the mighty prosecuter Spitzer would be looking to take his job.
I dont think spitzer would except a statement like “this is a private sexual matter between my wife and I”
And dont think the people of the State of NY should except it either.
Just like law enforcement officers polititians should be held to a higher standard.
But ask Bill Clinton thats just not so.
Why do some men pay for what they can get for FREE — especially from their wives?

This guy was angling for the prez job one day. Guess that’s not a career option anymore.
I’m sorry folks, but the nation has already decreed, by way of an Impeachment and Acquittal, that it is perfectly okay for the President of the United States to have relations with a whore in the oval office, so why should Elliot Spitzer be held to any higher standard than to which we hold the President? To do anything but turn the other cheek would be completely hypocritical in this case, especially with case law clearly on his side.
Did he have a record for infidelity in the past 21 years? I have not heard of a stream of mistresses, etc. Strange. No one could dish up some dirt on him before now? Odd. He was an expert on the legalities related to prostitution yet made no real effort to protect himself-unlikely. Smells like a frame up to me. Lesson: Watch who you take on (mafia? Wall St?)
Is anybody concerned about how he got caught? The Bank Secrecy act combined wit h US Patriot Act means that just about every bank transfer is recorded and reported to the govt.
