Boehner Launches Earmark Reform Website
Posted on February 12, 2008
House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R OH-8) has called on Democrats in Congress to join Republicans in a moratorium on earmarks. Speaker Pelosi refuses. So Boehner and company have launched a website to gain your support.
The spending habits of Congress – and pork-barrel earmarks, in particular – have become the clearest symbol of a broken Washington. With that in mind, House Republicans asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats to join them in supporting an immediate moratorium on all earmarks while a bipartisan select committee identifies ways to bring fundamental change to the way in which Washington spends taxpayers’money. The Majority’s response: no thanks.
In spite of the Democrats’ refusal to change the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars, House Republicans have committed themselves to a series of standards that will be the basis of their comprehensive earmark reform efforts. This website is dedicated to those standards and what House Republicans are doing to fix Washington by stopping earmarks.
I’m calling on everyone, Conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, join this effort to cap the wasteful spending habits of Congress.

Great idea. Hope he gets lots of support. Too bad they didn’t consider this pre-Pelosi. They could have kept their majority!
Yay for attacking symbols! When do we get to address the cause of the problem?
Molby, you are an idiot. A gnat. Why Jay allows you to comment is beyond me. Earmarks ARE the problem. And they’ve been recognized as such. They are a symbol of the bigger picture that the big bad government is broken.
I see. So if we outlaw earmarks, the big bad government will turn into a cute, cuddly puppy? All those people trying to use the government for personal gain will just say, “Aww, shucks.” and give up?
Riiight. They’ll just find another way to manipulate the puppets. The problem is the lack of respect for Article I Section 8 and Amendment X. If you return the federal government to its proper scope, the incentive for lobbying and corruption will all but disappear.
The source of the problem is power. A conservative should know this.
