Report:Duncan Hunter Dropping Out
Posted on January 19, 2008
Update: Its official:
Rep. Duncan Hunter has abandoned his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the California congressman said in a statement released Saturday evening.
“Today we end this campaign,†said Hunter, according to an advance copy of his remarks he was scheduled to deliver later in the evening.
The California Republican, an outspoken proponent of cracking down on illegal immigration, did poorly in the Nevada GOP caucuses held earlier in the day.
“The Nevada caucuses reflecting only 2 percent of the vote for me,†he said. “I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it’s time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable.â€
Nothing official from his campaign, but CNN is reporting this news. Via Hotline:
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “Not a huge surprise.” CNN’s John King: “To his credit, Duncan Hunter was a man of incredibly high spirits.”
CNN’s Anderson Cooper said Hunter was a possible VP choice. (Yes, he really said that).
Bill Bennett, on Hunter: “He called everybody by the wrong name.”
If its true, who will he endorse and how much will it help them? Oh, and do you think any of these guys would pick him for VP?
By the way, I really wish he could have done better. He is a true conservative, unlike many of these yahoos running for our party’s nomination, and I wish him well.

The Republican Party took a giant leap to the left today when the keeper of the Reagan flame withdrew.
