Fred Thompson: All or Nothing In South Carolina
Posted on January 8, 2008
Fred Thompson was just on FOX News. While everyone else is in New Hampshire, Fred is staking it out in South Carolina. He called it his “firewall”.
Michelle Malkin points to this AP report:
With his Republican rivals jockeying for victory in New Hampshire, presidential hopeful Fred Thompson sought Tuesday to boost his support in this early voting state considered critical to his campaign.
“I don’t know of any better place to stand my ground and test my case than in South Carolina,†Thompson told a couple of hundred people at a pancake house in the northern part of the state as he began an 11-day bus tour.
Several hours later, he said primary results in New Hampshire and in Michigan on Jan. 15 will factor into whether he stays in the race — but that South Carolina will be key.
“This is where we make our stand — this is where I have chosen to make my stand,†Thompson told a crowd at a barbecue restaurant. He later told reporters he needs to do well in South Carolina, which votes Jan. 19.
“There’s no question about it. It could prove at the end of the day that South Carolina is determinative as far as I’m concerned, but we’re not there yet,†he said.
Michelle is doubting Fred’s ability to win, and echoes the non-enthusiatic charge about Fred. Allahpundit, who thinks Fred is a crappy candidate, is practically begging the Fred heads to get behind Romney. He seems to think this would stop the Huckaboom.
I refuse to get behind any of these candidates besides Fred right now. I haven’t lost faith yet. I think Rush will help take down the Huckaboom, and Fred still has a good chance if he does well in South Carolina. I will get behind Romney as last resort. I think he is a flip-flopper, and I can’t trust him.
More on Fred and South Carolina:
Thompson and the people around him know that South Carolina is a must-win. Mitt Romney may look very damaged by the time South Carolina votes, however, and Team Fred thinks they’re a likely first choice for Romney fans losing faith in their man. (Would Mitt fans go to “Don’t Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers†Huckabee or “You are the candidate of change†McCain?)
Also, expect Thompson to spend an enormous amount of time laying out all the ways that Huckabee is not an across-the-board conservative. Thompson’s people believe the ball is bouncing his way, as he’ll soon be able to make the case he’s the only remaining candidate who can rally all wings of the Republican coalition.
Anyway, with folks doubting him and the position he is in right now…he needs our help more than ever.

I said here that there’s a reason why nobody’s laid a glove on Fred thus far: it’s because his positions on the issues are unassailable.
Fred is by far the best conservative candidate. His poll results are low but that is only because he started in the race so late. All my hope is in him this last week until The South Carolina vote. I would hate to see him drop out and then forcing me to vote for someone I do not want to. Fred needs our support!! http://www.fred08.com
Fred Thompson is THE ONLY candidate worthy to rule the roost in D.C….in the White House!
Go Fred, let’s win S.C.

I believe, do YOU??
Why would Romney fans have qualms with him when he has doubled all other candidates in delegates won?
