Bhutto Assassinated Dems Try to Capitalize
Posted on December 27, 2007
Candidates for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States are now clambering to be seen as more effective in dealing with foreign policy crises. Hillary has come forward pointing to her non-existent experience and saying that she actually met Benazir Bhutto. Edwards in an attempt to not be left out pointed out that he’s visited Pakistan and met with Bhutto as well. Obama too attempted to capitalize on this cowardly assassination in Pakistan.
Republicans are not immune to this as well. John McCain appeared on FoxNews although I believe the only capitalizing that he did was to get his face on camera. It is my belief that Fox asked him to appear and he said sure. He condemned the attack and said that our government should be coming down on the side of the rule of law which is exactly what President Bush said.
Crawford, TX - “The United States strongly condemns this cowardly act by murderous extremists who are trying to undermine Pakistan’s democracy. Those who committed this crime must be brought to justice.”
The President went on to speak about Bhutto herself and called on a continuation of a move toward the democracy that Bhutto stood for…
“Mrs. Bhutto served her nation twice as prime minister and she knew that her return to Pakistan earlier this year put her life at risk. Yet she refused to allow assassins to dictate the course of her country.
“We stand with the people of Pakistan and their struggle against the force of terror and extremism. We urge them to honor Benazir Bhutto’s memory by continuing with the democratic process for which she so bravely gave her life.”
Here’s our problem…
