Fred Thompson: The Choice of Most Conservative Bloggers

Posted on December 21, 2007

In blogger poll, after blogger poll it has been Fred Thompson hands down, despite the efforts of Ron Paul bots. Most conservative bloggers I know have either came out and endorsed him, or are rooting from him. Below are just a handful.

John Hawkins of Rightwing News, Erick Erickson of RedState.Com, Pejman of RedState, Eugene Volokh of Volokh’s Conspiracy, Polipundit of Polipundit, Ala from Blonde Sagacity, Beth at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Kender at Kender’s Musings, Gribbit at Gribbit’s Word, Bill Quick of Daily Pundit, Misha of Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller, Bob Krumm, Brandon at Conservative Superiority, Curt at Flopping Aces, Darrell of Alpha Patriot, Jimmie of the Sundries Shack, Justin Higgins of Right on the Right, Kim du Toit, MacRanger of Macsmind, Rick Moran of Right Wing Nuthouse, Mike Hendrix of Cold Fury, Rob Port of Say Anything, Stix of Stix Blog, TraderRob of Opinipundit, William Dyer of Beldar Blog, Nate of Irate-Nation, William Teach of Pirate’s Cove, Kate of Ol Broad, Steve of Pencilnub, and though he is getting doubts…Ace of Ace of Spades. Plus many more.

With so many bloggers behind Thompson, and the trend of polls in Iowa, it makes one wonder if Iowa conservatives even read blogs.

With the Huckaboom hitting a wall called Rush Limbaugh, and the latest poll showing an up-climb, its far from time to give up on Fred.

I’m sure I missed other bloggers that are behind Fred. If I missed you, let me know in the comments with your name and blog url and I’ll add you.

More: Steve of No Runny Eggs, KT Cat, Neil of Eternity Matters, Eric at Pool Bar, Martin at Conservative Blog Therapy, Arclightzero of Pro Patria, and Jim at Bright and Early.

And…More: Rightwing Rocker, Brain Shavings, Musings of a Political Wonk, Simple Country Girl, and Good Boy’s Nation…oh! And Frank J. and all the guys at IMAO!

I am truly humbled to be included on this list. As Flopping Aces puts it , I am in good company.

  3. Steve on December 21st, 2007 6:05 pm

    I’m with Fred!, too.

  4. George on December 21st, 2007 6:12 pm

Now if he can just muster enough energy to convince as many voters, fred might win a precinct in an early state. Maybe even two.

    Go (back to sleep) Fred!

  5. steveegg on December 21st, 2007 6:24 pm

    Call me a FredHead.

With so many bloggers behind Thompson, and the trend of polls in Iowa, it makes one wonder if Iowa conservatives even read blogs.

I will say it’s easy to overstate our influence, much like the nutroots thought they had influence after Ned Lamont.

  6. Eddie on December 21st, 2007 6:25 pm

The problem is, if Fred wins the nomination he will not have the stamina to campaign during the general with the VIGOR he will need to beat the Clinton Machine.

He is doing much less than he needs to now, what do you think he will be doing in 3, 6 or 9 months from now?

It is a defacto loss for the GOP in 2008.

  7. K T Cat on December 21st, 2007 6:29 pm

Hey! What am I, chopped liver? I want the linky goodness, too. I’m a huge Fred fan.

By the way, Frank J of IMAO endorses Fred, too.

  8. Allan Stewart on December 21st, 2007 6:30 pm

Hey, George - I’ll let you in on a secret…
All the other candidates spent years and years planning their campaign and building their organizations. Fred was drafted only 3 months ago by popular demand. If he seemed slow getting started, its because he had to condense several years’ work into a few months - not something a lazy man could do.

  9. mildred carlson on December 21st, 2007 6:35 pm

Good Gravy no one in holy hell is gonna vote for that dirty old hound dog. Fred Thompson is just sad. The thought of that old buzzard rolling around with his young trophy wife is simply grotesque.

  10. Jeff Vandergrift on December 21st, 2007 6:49 pm

Difference between Fred Thompson’s campaign and Ron Paul’s?

Fred’s campaign was over hyped before it started, and was over the second he stood up on the podium.

Ron Paul’s campaign was almost invisible, and now is stronger than ever.

Really think that McCain is going to win New Hampshire? Think again.

Ron Paul is more conservative than Fred Thompson, he has no special interests besides the constitution and the American people. Fred Thompson is just a follower of bad policies foreign and domestic.

Fred was supposed to be the guy who would say anything no matter who didn’t like it. Looks like Ron beat him to that to, probably going to beat the whole field in fund raising as well.

Finally this conservative can vote for a conservative. Ron Paul in 08.

  11. Neil on December 21st, 2007 6:50 pm

I’ve been in th Fred camp since day one. Huckabee would be my choice if he were running for Next Door Neighbor, but Fred is just so much more presidential. The media think Huckabee would be easier to beat (and they are probably right) so they are giving him a pass for now.

  12. C.C.Denchen on December 21st, 2007 6:59 pm

    Good evening Jay,
Although I do not support Fred Thompson, I thought that I might contribute a thought on his (and his supporters’) behalf. I attended the Virginia Straw Poll on December 1st where his supporters voted him into second place (at just over twice the number of votes garnered by the next closest candidate). His supporters were numerous and energized. Previous to this event almost all of the “press” I had read regarding him indicated that he had rather lackluster support and a dwindling following. Obviously my personal experience (and that of the supporters I saw there) was at variance with the reported information. Today, most of what I read about him and his support has not changed significantly since that time, despite any evidence to the contrary. If you and other citizens believe Fred Thomspon is the best person to be elected President then I strongly recommend that you not be dissuaded. Vote according to your conscience and knowledge.
    I certainly will.

  13. truthseeker on December 21st, 2007 7:01 pm

Fred acts like the nomination process is such a chore for him to go through.

He appears like this event is coming at a time of his much needed winter hibernation.

You should all pray for Fred- but since you are not supporting Huckabee -I do not think you have much power with God.

I am sure in a few months Fred will be back on Tv to give you guys some pleasure at home .

  14. Eric on December 21st, 2007 7:21 pm

You can count me among Fred supporters…and my little blog, too!

  15. Stix on December 21st, 2007 7:27 pm

What does supporting Huckabe have to be with having power with God. This is for the PResidnecy of the United Staes of America, not on who is going to be my Pastor or who is closer to God.

  16. Jim on December 21st, 2007 7:29 pm

Fred gets my support at bRight&Early

  17. arclightzero on December 21st, 2007 7:55 pm

Don’t forget me! Pro Patria has been rooting for Fred since the official website was “draft Fred Thompson” :)

As for Iowa, I have my doubts as to if anything that doesn’t have to do with ethanol or farm subsidies gets their attention. Blogs? What’re those. Do they run on ethanol?

  18. steveegg on December 21st, 2007 8:11 pm

Ahem; that’s No Runny Eggs; if it were Runny Eggs, I would be vascilating like Rudy McHuckney. :-)

  19. Phone For Fred ! on December 21st, 2007 9:50 pm

If you really want to help Fred, they really really really need help phoning people. Fred will be making more stops in Iowa after Christmas than he has before. It’s a tight schedule and getting the word out in Iowa is tough - posting to a blog won’t do it. But you can go to his website and get a script and names/numbers to call. Assuming you aren’t saddled with some high-dollar long distance plan, you can help from anywhere in the country.
Fred needs a good showing in Iowa to carry on!
They need as many calls made as possible!
    Please help!

Well I recant, Fred would be my second choice, I think I was a little harsh on him. But for me is definitely Ron Paul, and if not Paul, then Fred.

  21. MoFiZiX GrFiX on December 22nd, 2007 12:49 am

Hey John, don’t forget about me. I’ve also been touting Thompson’s conservative qualities from well back in the draft Fred days. When you consider the lack of consistency in leadership amongst the other candidates and you take a hard look at the steadfast conservative record and electability of Fred Thompson, one cannot honestly deny that he is the only logical choice for President.

  22. K T Cat on December 22nd, 2007 8:52 am

Thanks for the linky goodness! Go Fred!

  23. Tim on December 22nd, 2007 9:22 am

What is most interesting is that Thompson’s support is *so* much broader and deeper than characterized by the MSM. The fact is, Thompson is the GOP candidate that the Dims are most afraid of getting the nomination. He’d pull a Reagan and sweep much of the country as a genuine conservative. Thus, the mainstream media feels it is of paramount importance to downplay and denigrate Thompson at every opportunity. And they obviously do so…yet Thompson is getting stronger as the first votes draw near. I do believe it’s going to be Thompson for president and Romney for VP, a reprise of the Reagan-Bush run in 2000 against Carter and Mondale. And we know what happened in *that* race….

SoCalPundit.com endorsed Fred back on June 8th, 3 months before he announced for President.

  25. Dan Morgan on December 22nd, 2007 7:24 pm

Fred’s campaign is on life support. His problem was that he had to audition for the role, it wasn’t just handed to him. Ron Paul is the only true conservative choice.

  26. Ryan from Philadelphia on December 22nd, 2007 7:25 pm

I see a buncha paid spammers.

Ron Paul will win in landslide.

  27. Stix on December 22nd, 2007 7:44 pm

Umm What Paid Spammers. I hav never got paid for anythin and I kno most of the otheres on the list and none f them have gotten paid ether.Isn’t that Ron Paul’s Pualbots that go and take over any conversation. They have a secret place where they ll go to to spam polls.
And if you think Paul will win in a landslide, you are delusional. No one of the candidates are going to win the Republican nomination in a landslide.

  28. Brightwinger on December 22nd, 2007 8:01 pm

The first time I saw Fred Thompson on TV way back in 1994 or so, I said to myself, “That guy should be president of the US.” That’s how smokin’ hot his presidential aura was.

Al Gore hadn’t invented the internet yet…or maybe he did, but I was so far behind the curve I missed it, but that’s another story…so I couldn’t endorse him then.

But I promise you, you’ve never seen an an endorsement quite like this one:

  29. Sean on December 22nd, 2007 9:39 pm

All of you Fred Thompson supporters are crazy!!! Do you really want a lobbyist in the white house? And why are all Ron Paul supporters considered fringe? I never knew the Constitution was a fringe idea. If anyone really did research on the candidates, they would find Ron Paul is the only true conservative!

“And why are all Ron Paul supporters considered fringe? I never knew the Constitution was a fringe idea.”
    - Sean

How about the part where the Commander in Chief is supposed to protect us from all enemies both foreign and domestic?

The ever excitable Ron Paul told the world in one of the debates that 9/11 was the doing of 19 terrorists.

This was in defense of his ’solution’ to the ever present worldwide Muslim terrorism, which was to leave them alone.

His two comments were both disqualifying in much the same way if I applied for a job with Microsoft and told Bill Gates in the interview “Apple RULES!”

The difference being that my error would not result in the end of Western Civilization.

You’re invited to see my endorsement of Fred Thompson at http://1brightwinger.blogs

  35. Brightwinger on December 22nd, 2007 11:07 pm

“Even a 14 year old gets it “Brightwinger”! Dumb&@#”

    - Dave

How many new Ron Paul supporters do you suppose you’ve made with your series of comments, such as “Fred is dead! Fred is dead! Fred is dead!”

I don’t see a lot of difference in your fervor than that of the Muslim terrorists.

By the way, 14-year olds are not allowed to vote for good reason. If you rely on their judgment for your own decisions, it will leave you short time and again.

  37. Frederick Paxson on December 22nd, 2007 11:58 pm

FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.

During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served under both Presidents Carter and Reagan (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.

I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of America’s armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at http://www.fred08.com. I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.

Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment — all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.

Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to “fix” this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.

For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesn’t shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesn’t say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.

During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.

As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese government’s attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committee’s report).

As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.

Don’t be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his “laziness.” As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s issues.

I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates’ views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.

I’m a Goldwater conservative who’s been with Fred! from the beginning. I figured this late run was actually a deliberate strategy:

Well, speaking as a fellow member of the Church of Christ,Fred comes a lot closer to living and practicing MY idea of New Testament Christianity in his public life than the Huckster EVER has….and he has the added advantage of never having had a hint of scandal tied to him….not to mention the fact that he is the only candidate who has put out a bunch of well defined position papers on major issues…as for Ron Paul supposedly being a ‘conservative’,well he and I were both GOP nominees for Congress here in the Houston area in 1974 in our respective districts and appeared at several candidate forums together….he was a fringe libertarian then and remains so today…I’ve been helping to define ‘conservatism’ in the GOP since I worked as a HS teenager for Goldwater in 1964…at every campaign level as well as some time spent as a call in radio talk show host…and Fred is the REAL Slim Shady….everyone else in the race wishes they could be Fred

    Jay
In regards to this part of your post.

“With so many bloggers behind Thompson, and the trend of polls in Iowa, it makes one wonder if Iowa conservatives even read blogs.”

I am originally from Ohio but now reside in San Diego CA. I have this year come in contact with several schoolmates from the midwest..Ohio, PA, Iowa, Indiana Illinois etc…and except for a “few” who live in the big cities a lot of them only use internet at work and many barely use email. For those of us who have recent military time and/ or live in the Big city and have jobs that require high internet savvy…we tend to forget that many of our fellow Americans are way laid back and aren’t pressured by things like the internet. They still get a majority ogf their news the old fashioned way..newspaper or television. I wish someone would doan honest-to-God poll, by state, on potential voters who have ranked their use or proficiency with the net. I think this is something highly overlooked. There are tens (yeah hundreds of thousands of good hearted people out there who are “blind” because they only get the MSM agenda.

  46. Winghunter on December 24th, 2007 3:43 am

I read, can’t remember where at this second, where the projected homes who have internet access is 150+ Million.

I hope the other half of the population isn’t, as you say, listening to the MSM…or we are in trouble.
