Committee Says Colored Christmas Lights Too Religious

Wow! Talk about overly zealous and overly paranoid, politically correct garbage gone amuck! This is ridiculous! Our culture will be completely stolen if we keep allowing this slippery slope.
A special task force in a Colorado city has recommended banning red and green lights at the Christmas holiday because they fall among the items that are too religious for the city to sponsor.
“Some symbols, even though the Supreme Court has declared that in many contexts they are secular symbols, often still send a message to some members of the community that they and their traditions are not valued and not wanted. We don’t want to send that message,” Seth Anthony, a spokesman for the committee, told the Fort Collins, Colo., Coloradoan.
He said the recommended language does not specifically address Christmas trees by name, but the consensus was that they would not fall within acceptable decorations.
What will be allowed are white lights and “secular” symbols not associated “with any particular holiday” such as icicles, unadorned greenery and snowflakes, the task force said.
The group was made up of members of the city’s business and religious communities as well as representatives from some community groups. Members met for months to review the existing holiday display policy, which allowed white as well as multi-colored lights and wreaths and garlands.

Maybe the city can use some of the saved money to install Muslim prayer footbaths.
ACLU says those are OK.
Red and green are religious? OK, but that sounds silly even to me.
But no, the slippery slope argument doesn’t apply. No one is telling them they have to take it this far. I don’t believe the ACLU has sued anyone for red and green lights.
What color will the stop lights be now in Ft. Collins? How will I know when to stop or go?
I don’t think the ACLU is crazy enough to say that red and green lights are religious. They must be short on oxygen in Ft. Collins. What’s the elevation there? Once you take away Mary and the manger, Angels etc. most “Christmas” decorations are merely seasonal. The holiday itself has gone beyond religion to become simply a time for shopping and a big Family Dinner.
Admirable actually got an audible chuckle from me on that one.
They sounds like the Berkley city council,clergy & ACLU political supporters who distorted the truth here in Berkley, MI. Believe I heard the chair of committee was an ACLU member.

It sounds like the liberal brain worm and the the global warming brain worm got together on this one. It could be that they are trying to kill the ACLU with heel dust by trying to stay a few steps ahead of them.
