Giuliani Gets Second Amendment Wrong
Posted on September 22, 2007
At least he was about to, when a well timed phone call saved him. I didn’t notice it before, but a few sharp folks did. Listen to the video below and you will hear it. Just so we have it to compare things with…here is the Second Amendment.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
He starts talking about the ‘languauge of the amendment’.
“After all the second amendment is a freedom every bit as important as the other freedoms in the first ten amendments. Just think of the language of it — ‘the people shall be secure’ –let’s see, this is my wife calling…â€
What Rudy was quoting was most likely the 4th Amendment.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
That would have been a HUGE gaffe to do…especially at the NRA forum. Good thing an amazingly well timed phone call interrupted. He was able to change subject afterwards.
