New Video From Al Qaeda Number Two
Posted on July 4, 2007
Al Qaeda’s got their message for the fourth and the Blotter has the scoop.
As Americans celebrate the 4th of July today, Al Qaeda’s top deputy Ayman Zawahiri is appearing in a new internet video praising jihadi fighters in Iraq and elsewhere. Dressed in all white and sitting before a news studio background, Zawahiri warns Americans that “Today, the wind - by grace of Allah - is blowing against Washington.”
In the hour and half long video, which surfaced today on the website Strategic Translations, a translation and terror analysis firm, Zawahiri urges his followers to hurry to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, and Somalia.
He also offers a message of confidence to the jihadi fighters in prison saying that victory in Iraq and Afghanistan will come soon.
“You must be patient and steadfast,” he says. “Rejoice, for victory is near, with Allah’s permission, and the herds of crusaders have begun to split up and their sole concern has become searching for a way out.”
Follow the link to the Blotter for more details. I’m not dwelling on their huffing and puffing this holiday. Feel free to use the trackbacks below to create links to your own take on this news.
Here is Laura Mansfield’s take:
The video, entitled “The Advice of One Concernedâ€, is 1 hour, 34 minutes long, and includes clips from other videos and news broadcasts, including one from Al Furqan, the video production arm of the Islamic State of Iraq.
The video does not reference the London attacks, but appears to be more of a “state of the ummah†style address intended to try and provide advice to the Muslim world in a manner similar to the “fireside chatâ€.
He provides advice to the people of Iraq, and of Palestine. He reiterates the call for young men to rush to the jihad in Iraq and Afghanistan, and includes a video clip of Sheikh Abdullah Azzam reminding the Muslim ummah that jihad is the responsibility of every Muslim.
He rebukes the mujahideen of Fateh for battling HAMAS, and tells them to “Return to your religion, your Islam, your honor and your Arabness.â€
My Pet Jawa has a copy of the video and notes:
The video of Zawahiri is a painful reminder that he remains on the loose, probably in Pakistan. Its English subtitles are also a reminder that one of our own–Orange County California born and raised Adam Gadahn–continues to help al Qaeda spread their vile propaganda.
So, will Pakistan ever get serious with al Qaeda? Or is this a hopeful sign that someone has again threatened to bomb them back into the stone age if they didn’t go after our enemies and that al Qaeda and their sympathizers are once again on the run in Pakistan?
QandO makes a great point from this excerpt:
In the hour and half long video, which surfaced today on the website Strategic Translations, a translation and terror analysis firm, Zawahiri urges his followers to hurry to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, and Somalia.
And not the US? Feature that …
And tell us again about how what is said here has no real effect elsewhere, will you?
Atlass Shrugs has the ultimate hopeful conclusion:

Oddly, the video just features Zawahiri singing the “Numa-Numa” song interspersed with comic photos of his “homies” and a flashing link to his MySpace page.
Kind of a letdown, really.
Hi Jay,
Cannot get a trackback to work again.
Might I be on the banned list?
Thanks,

This sounds to me like the cry of a leader struggling with too many losses that is attempting to get a “surge” of their own going.
If what I overheard (in a restaurant) two soldiers telling their buddies is true, then, according to them, al-Qaeda has a lot to worry about. It seems the two soldiers are more than ready to return to use the “secret weapon” the troops have been using for months… dipping their bullets in the blood of pigs and carrying pouches of pig’s blood..? WHY??? What’s the deal about blood?
