Homosexuals are a race?

“Italian homosexual leaders are accusing Riccardo Di Segni, Rome’s chief rabbi of “racism” for his stand defending the traditional family. Di Segni was speaking against proposed legislation that would create de facto civil unions for homosexual partners and cohabiting persons with equivalent rights to natural marriage.

Franco Grillini, a homosexual MP accused Rabbi Di Segni of “unacceptable anti-homosexual racism.” Grillini is honorary chairman of top Italian gay rights’ association Arcigay that is campaigning for the bill.

The rabbi is not the only religious leader to come under fire from homosexual activists in favour of civil unions. Last week Pope Benedict XVI expressed his solidarity with president of the Italian Bishops Conference, Angelo Bagnasco, who is under police protection after threats appeared scrawled on the walls of Genoa Cathedral. The archbishop received an anonymous envelope through the mail containing a bullet and a picture of the archbishop with a swastika carved into it.

Race -noun
a. any of the traditional divisions of humankind, the commonest being the Caucasian, Mongoloid, and Negro, characterized by supposedly distinctive and universal physical characteristics: no longer in technical use.
b. an arbitrary classification of modern humans, sometimes, esp. formerly, based on any or a combination of various physical characteristics, as skin color, facial form, or eye shape, and now frequently based on such genetic markers as blood groups.
c. a human population partially isolated reproductively from other populations, whose members share a greater degree of physical and genetic similarity with one another than with other humans.

Using the definition of race, how is this racism? Last time I checked sexual preference does not change your race. Would this not be religious descrimination since the Italian homosexual leaders are attacking the rabbi due to his reigious belifs?
