WND: Airport adds foot basins for Muslim cabbies
The Kansas City International Airport has added several foot-washing basins in restrooms to accommodate a growing number of Muslim taxicab drivers who requested the facilities to prepare for daily Islamic prayer, WND has learned.
The move concerns airport police who worry about Middle Eastern men loitering inside the building. After 9/11, the airport beefed up its police force to help prevent terrorist attacks.
“Why are we constructing places of worship for them inside our airports?” said an airport official who requested anonymity. “Why are we catering to their rituals? We don’t do it for any other religion.”
Other major airports also are dealing with increased demands from Muslim cabdrivers.
As a Christian, I guess I need to demand that the airport provide communion wafer and wine dispensers. Buddhists…demand your incense! Hindus…demand the closure of all airport Burger Kings! Jews…demand that all flights running on the Sabbath be immediately discontinued!

I suppose it depends on whom he meant by “we”, but in general, he is wrong. You can probably even find a communion wafer in most of them.

The chapels are non-denominational and may be used for worship and prayer by anyone. Thus, irrelevant.

I’ve NEVER seen an airport offer free communion wafers and wine.
Have you seen many confession booths built especially for Catholics or special treatment of this sort given to any other faith in an airport? Don’t think so.
Muslims are being accomodated disproportionately to other religions. That is the issue. This is the USA. No one has a right not to be offended.

because they aren’t constructing a place of worship. The place of worship already exists. They just want a way to wash their feet in the restroom. Not a crazy request seeing as how the room was specifically designed for sanitary purposes and the plumbing is already there.
Have you asked for them? Wafers and wine are simple requests. I doubt it would take more than a couple dozen letters to make it happen. Confessionals may be a little tricky to pull off if space is limited, but if it is a small chapel, you can probably just lock the door for a few minutes.

As far as “the gentlemen’s argument” you refer to, I must pull the “text without context is pretext” card.
He goes on (in the very same quote Jeff) to elaborate:

Though his presentation may have been inartful, his point is clear and easy to understand in the context of his entire quote, which you chose to cut down in order to affirm your own pretext. The airport is clearly providing for Muslims something they’ve not provided for others.
What Jeff, would you say if an airport decided to spend taxpayer money to be directed to another religion’s demands? What if an airport decided to construct, with taxpayer money, the confession booth or a Buddhist shrine to be used exclusively by (or at least constructed exclusively for) people of those faiths?
I think most of the argument flying around here are faulted on the fact that this is not something that KCI is doing just to appease them, its something that was requested of them and they have choosen to comply. Show me incidents where catholics asked for communion waffers and wine (they would probably have to compromise on grape juice, but whatever), or where Buddist asked for a shrine (and knowing the KC region their probably aren’t enough Buddist around to make it worth their while). Its a simple matter of ask and you shall recieve, if there is no demand for something then it won’t exist, if there is, like we have here where the cab drivers requested it, then what is wrong with this?
JFK has a Synagogue with Shabbat services, along with Chapel offering christian services with COMMUNION on first sundays. O’Hare has similar services with their chappel. So other airports do have special services for other religions. Note the link in the first post.
Besides look at this practically, would you rather have them washing their feet in the sinks or in a special foot basin? They will be washing their feet regardless, so having a seperate basin is better for everyone.
Since I live in Kansas I feel it necessary to point out that Kansas City International airport is in MISSOURI. So blame those folks in Misery as we call it… not Kansas.
On the other hand in Kansas we overode Governor Sebelius’ veto to protect the 2nd ammendment the other day.

The cabbies made a request and the airport decided it was reasonable and will grant the request. If members of another religion made a similarly reasonable request and are denied, your point about favoritism would be valid.
That’s a fair point. Is it taxpayer money? The article doesn’t say. If so, I would object on those grounds. Though from that perspective, I’d probably have to object to the whole chapel.

What appears to be a simple, irrefutable syllogism reveals itself to be
otherwise.
Muslims aren’t “moon worshippers” any more than you worship wooden crosses.
(Is it the cross you worship, or what it symbolizes?) Also, there’s the
assumption that the basins are a religious, and not a hygienic, request. Thirdly,
seeing a request from a moderate group of Muslims as reasonable does not equate to spineless
cowtowing to radical Islamists.

Enough already! First muslim cab drivers in Minneapolis won’t pick up fares with people
carrying alcohol, or people with service dogs. Now they want special facilities for foot
washing? First they come here to murder us and now we’re all supposed feel some empathy
for their wants. I’m sure Mecca has lots of foot washing facilities. Let them go back there.
