Edwards Will Not Be ‘Suspending’ His Presidential Campaign

Posted on March 22, 2007

Democrat Presidential Hopeful John Edwards in a press conference with his wife Elizabeth, has announced that he will NOT be suspending his campaign as Elizabeth continues treatments for cancer in her bones (specifically a rib on the right side). The announcement was made from Chapel Hill, NC at about 12:22 pm EDT Thursday.

It was announced shortly after the end of his 2004 bid to become Vice President on the Kerry/Edwards ticket that Elizabeth was suffering from Breast Cancer. Throughout the years since the ‘04 campaign, Elizabeth has gone through treatments and has been given a clean bill of health. Earlier this week, Edwards canceled a campaign function in order to return to North Carolina because Elizabeth had to undergo additional tests. These test results were released to them yesterday.

Because the cancer is now in her bone, it is now incurable. It is manageable through treatment. She will have this for the rest of her life.

Although I wish complete and utter destruction on John Edwards politically, I would never wish this type of ill health on anyone. We should all pray for GOD’s grace upon Elizabeth as she fights this terrible disease. But at the same time I’m hoping that Edwards doesn’t use his wife’s health as a political football in which to gain sympathy. That type of exploitation would be reprehensible.
