Must not Joke about Muslims

We read:

“ORLANDO, FL: A bus driver was fired after a Muslim couple complained that he insulted members of their religion over the loudspeaker.

The driver, whose name was not released, was fired Thursday after Hilal Isler of upstate New York said she and her husband, Volkan Isler, were offended. The Turkish-American couple say he launched into a monologue after they boarded the I-Ride Trolley bus March 5.

Hilal Isler said he greeted passengers, told a blonde joke and then one about Muslims.

“And now they’re telling us we’re supposed to be nice to these Muslim terrorists who are trying to kill us all,” Hilal Isler recalled him saying. “Here in America, we call them ‘rag-heads’ or ‘towelheads,’ but that’s not right. What they wear on their heads is more like a sheet. We should be calling them sheetheads.”

I wonder what would have happened if a blonde had complained? I am pretty sure she would have been told to get over it.

He was being very nice by just calling them
sheetheads. He should have said that they
used TP and changed a coupe lf letters in the
name.

Not exactly tactful.

If his job requires him to be polite, insulting a customer/passenger isn’t smart. Sounds like he was openly insulting while he was on the job, which reflects badly on the employer.

I don’t know about other jobs, but my job has a policy against throwing insults around.

“insulted members of their religion” Let me get this straight was it “Muslim terrorists” or “sheetheads” that they found insulting? If they made the point that Sheetheads, to them, was insulting they may have some grounds. However; if they are going to go with Muslim Terrorists causing them insult, IMO they have no grounds. In that not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists ARE Muslim. But there is no reference to what it is exactly they found to be insulting. With respect to what Tim Says: Not exactly tactful, I quite agree, but then neither was the blonde joke. This individual definitely stepped on his schwantz, but was only fired from a position and is no longer driving, but is probably doing dispatch now. Gotta love the ATU.

all terrorists ARE Muslim.

Jim, I would love to hear the definition of “terrorist” that you use which excludes individuals such as Timothy McVeigh and Ted Kaczynski. Nevermind the times when the Israelis have crossed the line or half of European or African history for that matter. Terrorism is a tactic and there is no shortage of people who have been or are willing to use it.

It was stupid to tease or taunt. We all know that most people from that region are lacking in any sense of humor, and even more so if it directly concerns them and bears any resemblance to the truth. At a time when the scale is tipped so far to the extreme of common sense, it is in our best interest to be better than them all and not lower ourselves to their level.
