Motion to Recommit H.R. 800 by a 202-225 vote in the U.S. House of Representative this afternoon.

The fact that the Republican minority leadership picked this fight today, and did so well, is an encouraging one.

Republicans voted 189-8 for the restriction on illegal aliens influencing unionization efforts either for the company or for the union. If we are to beat back amnesties and other immigration increases in the House, we have to hold at least 90% of the Republicans. In this case, around 95% stuck with enforcement over permissiveness.

Only 13 of 230 Democrats voted for the restriction on illegal aliens. However, this became a fairly hardline party line vote. The Democratic leadership had refused to allow the restriction to be voted as an amendment. That forced enforcement leaders to use the Motion to Recommit. Many Democrats who probably would have voted for the restriction as an amendment voted against recommitting because it would delay the overall change in unionization voting rules which they supported.

Thanks to all of you who tried to get your elected cockroaches to put protection of American workers through immigration enforcement ahead of Party loyalty.

One thing you will notice is that many of these are Democrats who took the seats of incumbent Republicans in November. I am happy with their vote and will continue to pay attention to the “blue dog ” democrats.
