Web Site Kicks Sand in Faces of GIs in Iraq Asking for Mats to Ease Hardship of Sleeping on Ground
Posted on January 23, 2007
From FNC:
An American GI assigned to one of the harshest posts in Iraq had a simple request last week for a Wisconsin mattress company: send some floor mats to help ease the hardship of sleeping on the cold, bug-infested ground.
What he got, instead, was a swift kick from the company’s Web site, which not only refused the request but added insult to injury with the admonition, “If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.”
Dang Liberal anti-war jackasses! Don’t they always say we are against the war but support the troops? yeah, right…
Army Sgt. Jason Hess, stationed in Taji, Iraq, with the 1st Cavalry Division, said he emailed his request to Discount-mats.com because he and his fellow soldiers sleep on the cold ground, which contains sand mites, sand flies and other disease carriers.
In his email, dated Jan. 16, 2007, he asked the Web-based company, registered to Faisal Khetani, an American Muslim of Pakistani descent:
“Do you ship to APO (military) addresses? I’m in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for ships to APO first.”
On the same day, Hess received this reply:
“SGT Hess,
We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.
Bargain Suppliers
Discount-Mats.com”Khetani on Monday told FOX News that the person responsible for the email reply had been fired. The Web site, meanwhile, has been temporarily taken down.
Hess emailed that he has since found two mat suppliers willing to ship to an APO address in Iraq.
How can anyone say something like this to a soldier in a war zone? Oh, right it was a Muslim, or someone of middle eastern heritage, where do the American Muslims/middle easterners actually stand on the war on terror?

A worker at an internet-based mattress company insulted a soldier! How can you contain your outrage?
Yes the owner is muslim. But, considering the business is run out of his parent’s home and he’s not even registered in the WI worker’s comp. database would seem that he’s got no employees to fire.
Would you be as flippant about this Simon if the business owner was a white Christian who hurled some epithet toward let’s say a prospective gay customer?
He’s got first amendment rights to express whatever idiotic opinion he chooses. We’ve also got 1st amendment right to stick it right back in his face. The USA…what country huh?
Let’s not let a few facts get in the way of phony sob story.
You only have to have worker’s comp if you have more than 3 employees. A simple google search found that out. If you can’t even get THAT simple fact right, how can I believe that a lack of registration means he has no employees? The fact that the company has a vice-president, Sajid Nasir, also suggests you are full of [edited] when you claim it has no employees.
The website is registered to the parent’s address, as you’ve mentioned yourself, you can’t find where the business is located. Any moron who has been on the internet for more than 2 years knows that the registration address of a website is seldom the same as the business address.
Blogs have published this man’s parents’ address, told people to drive by and take pictures, published his telephone number and intimated that he, his brother and his business partner are terrorists. His email box has been flooded with hate mail and his voicemail has been filled with death threats.
You don’t have rights, first amendment or otherwise, to threaten someone with death.
“Would you be as flippant about this Simon if the business owner was a white Christian who hurled some epithet toward let’s say a prospective gay customer?”
I’d be just as pissed about death threats and intimidation tactics whether done by people who share my political beliefs or yours. And if the company owner said he’d fired the employee, I’d be pretty impressed with the man. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to falsify evidence to “prove” that he had sent the email himself!
Everyone who puts themselves out there, ends up getting death threats and hate mail. I am not for the language that some people use to express their outrage, but that is life.
I would be equally outraged if this was a white business, but it raises certain questions, doesn’t it?
He said he fired the employee and says, he has ten employees, but none of that can be proven.
I am serious when I say I hope the feds are looking into these “ten employees” because as we know Hezbollah is operating here in the U.S. and that is much scarier than Al-Qaeda. They often use both legal and illegal business to fund themselves.
