Daily Kos: If All Else Fails, Civil War Is The Answer!

Posted on October 10, 2006

Remember the aftermath of the 2004 presidential election, when all those poor little Democrats and progressives were soooooo depressed because Bush was re-elected? Remember the websites that featured photos of lefties holding signs apologizing to the rest of the world for having lost?

With the mid-term elections coming up in a few weeks, it seems some Dems are already starting to get the jitters about taking a whooping for the third time, but now they’re starting to quake in their tie-dye t-shirts even before the election has begun. So says Jim J, a blogger over at Daily Kos (yes, I know, it seems I always pick on those Kos kids, but hey, they really are one can shy of a twelve pack sometimes quite often):

You can feel it building in the back of your mind, in that gray and desolate place where your darkest thoughts go before they metastize into grim reality: The worst-case, end-of-the-Republic, nascent civil war scenario that polls show is more and more possible — though thank goodness certainly not probable — after the November election.
It goes like this: Dems net 15-17 seats in the House to narrowly win the chamber. Teams of Republican lawyers fan out across the country, challenging all close elections and filing for recounts everywhere. Meanwhile, Rove & Co. work behind the scenes, making proverbial offers-that-can’t-be-refused to Blue Dog Democrats to switch parties — while they still can.

In the Senate, we win 51 seats to control the chamber. However, an Independent senator, one Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, decides to switch caucuses and throws in with the Republicans. As intended, with Cheney’s vote that effectively hands control back to the GOP despite the wishes of the voters.

What comes next? More below…

This one of those quotes that makes me do my best Scoobydoo impression: nascent civil war scenario? HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH? I actually just had a mental picture of John Lennon singing “All we are saying, is give civil war a chance!”

By the way, if you were wondering what the “more below” in that quote was referring to, it’s a poll:

What should the netroots do if the shit goes down?
- Agitate for a nationwide nonviolent, civil disobedience campaign
- Agitate for a nationwide campaign that is something other than civil
- Suck it up and continue 50-state strategy for ‘08
- Abandon electoral efforts and go underground
- Ain’t gonna happen so point is moot

Sooooo, let’s see…. Out of 5 possible answers, one (the last one) is designed to give you a fake sense of security (ooooh, yes, we will win, there is no other way possible after I spent $15.95 on this voodoo doll!), one (the 3rd one) advocates continuing down a path that was proven to reap miserable defeat, and three (the 1st, 2nd and 4th ones) condone basically tearing the country apart, violently if necessary. Where’s the love, comrades?

As mind frazzling as the original post are some of the comments:

I would endorse all out civil war.

I think it’s high time we finished what was started in 1861– a separation into the two nations we have always been.
But I would much rather see it happen peacefully.

In a nutshellKosshell, be forewarned: the nice little mellow hippies are going to revolt. Civil war. Secession. It’s cool. Now at least, we have a clear, legible transcript of the true meaning of Howard Dean’s meltdown in 2004.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? Shut your pie holes. I have a few guns to clean, just in case you decide to pay me a visit (yeah, right).

I’m still disappointed they didn’t keep their promise of all moving to Canada.

Jay, I’m actually glad they stayed. I live in Arizona by the Mexican border, and even though I’m a good shot, it would be harder to hit them if they hid behind some unsuspecting moose at such a distance.

Funny how the dems mentioned all out civil war- most firearms owners, and most people with military training, are NOT democrats.

Guess they’d have to use human wave attacks.

I can see those human wave attacks now. First, they would work themsselves into a frenzy of liberal tolerance (aka shouting obsenities) until they finally came completly unhinged which would reduce them down to hopping up and down, drooling at the mouth and throwing their feces at the White House and Congress.

    Jay,

Canada does not want any more than they already have and would like to give the ones they have away. They may even pay for someone to take them :-)

I think the US is already lost. I’m ready for a split. The Dems can have the northeast. The midwest and northwest will go to the Muslims. The southwest is already Mexican. America can just exist in the remaining southeast.
