Al-Qaeda Releases New Video Inviting Americans To Convert

Al Qaeda called on non-Muslims especially in the United States to convert to Islam and abandon their ‘misguided’ ways or else suffer, according to a video tape posted on a Web site on Saturday.
The speaker was identified as Azzam the American, also known as Adam Yahiye Gadahn — an Islamic convert from California wanted for questioning by the FBI and who U.S. authorities believe to be involved in an information campaign for al Qaeda.
“To Americans and the rest of Christendom we say, either repent (your) misguided ways and enter into the light of truth or keep your poison to yourself and suffer the consequences in this world and the next,” Gadahn said in English.
He appeared in the video dressed in a white turban and seated in front of a computer and books.
Al Qaeda’s second-in-command Ayman al-Zawhari made a brief statement at the beginning of the tape — dated September 2006 — urging viewers to listen carefully to the message, entitled: “An Invitation to Islam”.

On the video, he denounced U.S. soldiers in Iraq and claimed they had murdered and raped Iraqi civilians.
“Who are the real terrorists?” he asked.
He also seemed to advocate the killing of Marines back in his old home state.
“It’s hard to imagine that any compassionate person could see pictures … and not want to go on a shooting spree at the Marines’ housing facilities at Camp Pendleton,” he said.
In today’s video, al-Zawahri began by praising Islam and the prophet Mohammed.
“To the American people and the people of the West in general … God sent his Prophet Muhammad with guidance and the religion of truth … and sent him as a herald,” he said.
It’s interesting that Gadahn now has a recurring role in these tapes. Perhaps they’re trying to broaden their demographic appeal.
One would think, however, that someone other than the group behind the 9/11 attacks would be a more effective messenger for presenting the “convert to Islam” messag to an American audience.
With only nine days until the fifth anniversary of 9/11, it’s no surprise that we’d hear something from al Qaeda although I assumed Bin Laden would have delivered the message. But there’s still time; Bin Laden still may pop his head out of the cave in which he’s hiding.

Apparently, according to Islamic law before attacking your enemy you are supposed to warn him and give him a chance to convert to Islam before taking his life. Bin Laden was criticized by his peers for not doing this prior to the 9/11 attacks. Perhaps this is a warning of imminent new attacks
