New Iraqi Document (ISGP-2003-00300134-x)
Posted on July 17, 2006
Starting in 1996, Saddam took actions to prevent the inspection of Presidential sites:
“From 1996, Baghdad sought to constrain UNSCOM from inspecting numerous facilities, mostly by declaring these sites were sensitive. They characterized the inspections as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”
A 1998 Congressional Report offers a scenario that Presidential sites may have been used to store WMD:
“what if the bulk of the chemical warhead components are stored in, say, the Baghdad Presidential Palace — two miles southeast of the edge of the Baghdad West Airport. “
Today, “Operation Iraqi Freedom Document” (ISGP-2003-00300134-x) was released. It was dated December 18, 1998 and it was stamped “Top Secret/Immediate.”
Top Secret and Immediate
ORDER
The President had ordered,
To form committees from the Health Ministry, Military Industrialization
Commission, the Atomic Energy Organization, and the IIS, whose duties will be:
To inspect all sites bombarded by the enemy.
To assure that no contamination or radioactivity are present (TN: in the areas that
were hit), in particular and with utmost urgency the presidential sites.
To collect all debris present, and to coordinate with Dr. Muna Al -Jubori, School
of Science instructor at the University of Baghdad.(Signed)
Ahmed Hussein Khudayr
The Chief of the Administrative Office of the Presidency
18/12/1998
Notice that the sites to “inspect” are not simply industrial sites but also include “with utmost urgency the presidential sites.” How could there be “contamination” or radiation at “presidential sites” when it was clearly known that the US/British did not employ such weapons? Why was the document made “Top Secret” if they had nothing to hide?

Is this Saddam who ordered this search (this blog writeup is very unclear who you are talking about)? I dunno about you, but if I was a despot I would want to make sure that my residence was clear of radioactive material no matter how much the US and Europe said they hadn’t used any. And wasn’t the US using depleted uranium?
I mean we’re talking about the places where Sadam lived. Where his children lived. I think it’s completely rational that he would want them checked out for contamination or radiation. You’re making quite a leap here. Especially since you’re baseing your leap upon US congressional documents that are themselves speculation.
“How could there be “contamination” or radiation at “presidential sites” when it was clearly known that the US/British did not employ such weapons?”
Depleted uranium.
But you forget that they’re inspecting all sites hit. Not just the ones that UNSCOM wasn’t allowed into.
