Update: At least 100 are dead!
Update: Make that 7 explosions. Make that 147!
Seven explosions hit Bombay’s commuter rail network during rush hour Tuesday evening, ripping apart train compartments and reportedly injuring dozens of people, police and Indian media said.
Indian television news channels broadcast video of the wounded sprawled on train tracks and being carried through stations.
Via India Times we learn that 6 explosions took place this morning.
On a day when Srinagar saw six blasts in the morning, Mumbai was shaken by three explosions in quick succession on Tuesday evening.
The target was clearly the evening rush on the city’s local trains. The first blast occured in a first-class compartment of a local train near Khar station. The train was going from Churchgate to Borivili.
Reuters reports “militant” Islamists are suspected. Not much of a suprise there, but can someone tell me the difference between a “militant” and a terrorist? These sound more like terrorists to me.
In New Delhi, Home Secretary V.K. Duggal told reporters no militant group had claimed responsibility for the attacks “but I can tell you we know and we are going to get them”.
Condemning the attacks on “softest of soft” targets, Duggal said the strikes were aimed at disrupting an on-going peace process with Pakistan, but added that this would not happen.
Allah Pundit wonders if it has anything to do with the eleventh of the month. Captain’s Quarters notes: It looks like India will have a 7/11 to match Madrid’s 3/11 and our 9/11.
All of the attacks involved grenades.
At least 15 were killed according to CNN

Bombay is the financial center of India. This was targeted to hurt their market, which may crash when they open tomorrow.
Some are suspecting Kashmiri militants.
Another report says forty dead. ….and another is reporting at least 100!
Suitably Flip points to Express India reporting that one of the perpetrators of the Srinagar attacks was apprehended by bystanders and turned over to police. Allah Pundit hopes they treated him with the dignity due him under the Geneva Conventions.
