Marine Mammals Trump Military Readiness

Posted on July 10, 2006

On Friday, the Natural Resources Defense Council announced a settlement on the use of mid-frequency sonar by the U.S. Navy during the eight-nation Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises until better safety procedures were in place.

Joel Reynolds, a senior attorney at NRDC and director of its Marine Mammal Protection Project had the following press release comment:

“Military readiness does not require, and our laws do not allow, our natural resources to be sacrificed in the name of national defense.”

And this gets “filed under ACLU”… why, exactly? How precisely was the ACLU involved in this case?

How precisely was the ACLU involved in this case?

Uhh… Duh! I think it’s pretty obvious that if the ACLU were involved they would side with the whales. After all, they hate the military. Haven’t you ever heard of conjecture and assumptions.

Obviously Meatbrain you don’t frequent us enough. We talk about more than just the ACLU here.

Jay, did you actually stop to parse my question?

Why is this story, regarding legal action taken by the Natural Resources Defense Council, filed under “ACLU”? What substantive connection does the ACLU have to this case?

Read for comprehension, Jay. It’s fun!

Jay, he doesn’t have a problem with the story being posted, but it’s in the ACLU category… and frankly that’s confusing.

    OK, I understand now.

Gee, that’s great, Jay. I can’t help but noticing, though, that neither you nor anyone else have thus far been able to answer the simple questions you’ve been asked.

Ummm…this story is no longer filed under ACLU, so I don’t think your question is relevant anymore. That was a mistake being filed the way it was.

Really? You make mistakes here, Jay? And you admit it?

Merciful heavens… I do believe I may need the smelling salts…
