House Votes To Stay The Course

The House on Friday rejected a timetable for pulling U.S. forces out of Iraq, culminating a fiercely partisan debate between Republicans and Democrats feeling the public’s apprehension about war and the onrushing midterm campaign season.

In a 256-153 vote, the GOP-led House approved a nonbinding resolution that praises U.S. troops, labels the Iraq war part of the larger global fight against terrorism and says an “arbitrary date for the withdrawal or redeployment” of troops is not in the national interest.

“Retreat is not an option in Iraq,” declared House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. “Achieving victory is our only option, for the American people and our kids.”

Dan Riehl has advice for the dems:

Democrats are simply out of touch with America. As I have pointed out before, Americans in general are not anti-war. They are anti-losing. At this rate, the Democrats are positioning themselves to do what many were beginning to think was all but impossible … blow their momentum leading up to the fall elections.

They’ve been out maneuvered by the Republicans, again.

Cut and run is not an option. Because cutting and running makes the sacrifices of our troops and the troops from our allies meaningless. The fastest way to end a war is to lose it.

The whole thing was a sham debate. It really doesn’t mean anything. The Republicans just wanted to make the Democrats put up or shut up. I’m surprised 153 Representatives had the stones to vote against Mom, Baseball and Apple Pie.

Politics are an interesting but serious game. The resolution causes politicians to declare themselves. The House usually represents more clearly how the people are feeling so there seems to be a significant number that feel their constituents are cut and run. That is scary.

Oh, pure genius. They should pass a resolution making the Chimp Executive a Nobel Laureate while they’re at it; it would be equally as meaningful. The war in Iraq has nothing to do with the WOT and never did, except to create more terrorists.
