Michael Berg: Only Sadness at the Death of Son’s Killer, Al-Zarqawi

Posted on June 8, 2006

FULL COVERAGE AT THE DRUDGE REPORT
Michael Berg, the father of beheaded Nick Berg, expressed only sadness at the death of his son’s killer, Al-Zarqawi. Following news that Al-Zarqawi had been TERMINATED, “This will just bring a new cycle of revenge killings”Reuters ran panting for a statement from the predictable anti-war activist, who could only express regret for the destructive power of Bush’s war:

“I have no sense of relief, just sadness that another human being had to die.”
Berg’s pontification continues:

“As the poet John Donne said, any man’s death diminishes me. It doesn’t bring my son back, and this will just bring a new cycle of revenge killings”
While Michael Berg has always blamed Bush and Rumsfeld for his son’s death, Nick Berg was in Iraq on his own accord — reportedly as a commercial prospector.

Unbelievable!!! At the YearlyKos, they have Zarqawi spinning in his grave!
Others are questioning the timing.

What an idiot! If my son’s head had been cut off and they killed his killer…I’d be saddened too. I’d be saddened that it wasn’t me that got to drop the bomb personally.

I agree with Mr. Berg in that I regret that a human being died but I am convinced that Al-Zarqawi justly disserved death many times over. I do not agree with the idea that violence always begets violence. If that idea were true then all countries would be overwhelmed by violence as one faction constantly struck back at another. At some point most human beings get tired of violence and compromise their values. In this case removing the head may kill or weaken the body.
