Sign The Petition To Save Mt. Soledad Cross

Posted on May 8, 2006

Help the ACLJ stop the ACLU from re-writing our history.

Stop the ACLU!

The ACLU has done it again. In their campaign to rid our country of every vestige of God and Christianity, they have convinced a federal judge to order the removal of a cross from San Diego’s Mount Soledad memorial to heroes of the Korean War. We must fight back to save this religious symbol from demolition! Please read the form carefully and declare your membership with the ACLJ by signing the Petition below.

Petition to Save San Diego’s Mount Soledad Cross

President George W. Bush
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California
Mayor Jerry Sanders of San Diego
U.S. Senate Leadership
San Diego City Council

The federal court’s ruling that the cross on San Diego’s Mount Soledad must be immediately removed is an abomination and an affront to God-fearing Americans everywhere. We understand the ACLU is behind this unprecedented effort to remove the cross that has been in place, in one form or another, for nearly 100 years. The cross is part of a war memorial honoring the men and women who gave their lives to defend our freedoms as a nation.

We urge you today to take whatever action is necessary to save the Cross. We cannot allow the ACLU to re-write history and strip our nation of the symbols that have long been an important part of our heritage. Please put the full extent of your power to bear to stop this ruling in its tracks and save the Cross at Mount Soledad.

I agree that this is an unnecessary move. However..

“In their campaign to rid our country of every vestige of God and Christianity…”

Can we have a little more hyperbole, please? 25,000% of the US RDA for vitamin BS isn’t nearly enough.

“The federal court’s ruling … is an abomination and an affront to God-fearing Americans everywhere.”

God-fearing Americans are an affront not only to non-Christians but to those of us who refuse to worry about imaginary bullies and boogeymen or all stripes. None of the petition-signers could give a rip about the fallen soldiers; all they care about is defending their irrational institution.

    Brain,

“..those of us who refuse to worry about imaginary bullies and boogeymen or all stripes.”

Do you always get your panties in a wad over “imaginary bullies?”

I bet the “tooth fairy”, “Santa” and the “Easter bunny” have you nearly apoplectic.

For someone who “refuse to worry”, you sure have been battling against it.

You are absolutely correct in placing God, the Tooth Fairy, Santa and the Easter Bunny in the same category.

However, let’s look at whose panties are bunched up over all of this. Is it someone who gets a chuckle out of Christians’ rabid reaction to the potential removal of a cross from public view (”an affront to God-fearing Americans!”), or someone from, say, Oklahoma who can’t seem to let a single remark about the inanity of Christianity pass without complaint? You, my friend, are the one with a horse (tired old nag though it may be) in this race. ‘m just thankful to have grown up in the company of sane parents who weren’t inclined to brainwash me and indoctrinate me using fear and lies.

My complaint is people such as yourself, who claim anything spiritual or religious, to be myth and fairytales yet spend an inordinate amount of time attacking the same.

I know that if you were to tell me you believed in unicorns, I certainly wouldn’t put as much hate, scorn and villification into the issue as you have this one.

Of course, I’m not threatened by people believing in unicorns either.

“My complaint is people such as yourself, who claim anything spiritual or religious, to be myth and fairytales yet spend an inordinate amount of time attacking the same.”

You must be thinking of someone else.

Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, etc.: myth and fairytales.

Buddhism, meditation, other non-supernatural and apolitical sources of spiritual fulfillment: Perectly fine.

“I know that if you were to tell me you believed in unicorns, I certainly wouldn’t put as much hate, scorn and villification into the issue as you have this one.”

While a belief in a triune God and a belief in unicorns are equally foolish, there’s a key difference: America isn’t home to a huge number of unicornists whose chief aim is disrupting the proper education of children, interfering in the sex lives of others, aiming to halt or reverse scientific progress, and in general acting like deluded, meddling idiots.

“Of course, I’m not threatened by people believing in unicorns either.”

Keep telling yourself that people who recognize Christianity as the purloined and unoriginal heap of trash that it is are threatened and not merely tired of being told what they should do, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll even be true someday.

God isn’t real. That is all.
