Officers Claim Brass Interfered in Investigation of Rep. Kennedy Incident, ROLL CALL reports… MORE… Police labor union officials asked acting Chief Christopher McGaffin this afternoon to allow a Capitol Police officer to complete his investigation into an early-morning car crash involving Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.).
According to a letter sent by Officer Greg Baird, acting chairman of the USCP FOP, the wreck took place at approximately 2:45 a.m. Thursday when Kennedy’s car, operating with its running lights turned off, narrowly missed colliding with a Capitol Police cruiser and smashed into a security barricade at First and C streets Southeast.“The driver exited the vehicle and he was observed to be staggering,” Baird’s letter states. Officers approached the driver, who “declared to them he was a Congressman and was late to a vote. The House had adjourned nearly three hours before this incident. It was Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy from Rhode Island.”
Michelle Malkin has posted copies of the police report from a seperate Pat Kennedy car crash from two weeks ago. You should see the handwriting. Texas Rainmaker compares it to his regular handwriting. Wow!

Kennedy blames it on medication, but I guess we will never know since there wasn’t a breathalizer. Regardless, that is no excuse. Like Don Surber says….
The law (at least in west Virginia) states a driver should not drive under the influence of anything that impairs his judgment. Being impaired by prescription medications is not an excuse. Mitigating under some circumstances, but no excuse. Adults are responsible for the medications they take or fail to take.
Why is the guy taking sleep medication and then driving?

Late to a vote? One would think that answer showed he was drunk, but he was claiming something else: More like claiming diplomatic Constitutional immunity.
Geez, according to the press conference, he doesn’t remember the incident at all. He really does have issues. Video also at Media Crunch

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree does it. I know why he claimed that he was on his way to a House vote at 3:00 am. Members of Congress cannot be arrested in the Capital, on the grounds, or on their way to or from the Capital. That is in Article I of the United States Constitution.
Deja-vu lite?
Think both Kennedy’s woke up this morning and went “D’oh!”?
Anh… I’ll take a drunk Kennedy over a sober Bush any day of the week.
I liked the fact that he also had another event where he hit a black airport security guard. I wonder why I didn’t hear more about that event. That and him getting treated better by the Capitol police him Cynthia McKinney appears racist. I wonder if Jesse Jackson will weigh in or is he just interest in the Duke Scandal?
