ADF’s Johnson Defends Anti-Gay Slogans In Classroom (VIDEO)

Mike Johnson of the Alliance Defense Fund appeared on The O’Reilly Factor tonight to discuss a student wearing a shirt that says “homosexuality is shameful”. Johnson says that it is okay to do so because of the student’s first amendment rights; however Bill O’Reilly thinks it shouldn’t be allowed because it is a distraction. I agree with Bill O on this one. I don’t think that anti-gay slogans should be allowed to be worn in high schools just as much as I don’t think that pro-gay slogans should be allowed to be worn or said in high schools. Neither of it belongs in a classroom, especially a federally funded one.

Free speech does not stop at the schoolhouse door. I understand that if it distracts from learning, then it should be stopped. And this controversial issue has probably caused disruption. However, you don’t just stop one side. You can not limit the free speech of one side of the issue, and allow it for the other side. This would be endorsing, and espousing one side of the issue, and restricting the opposite viewpoint. That would be indoctrination. Either ban both, or leave it alone.

The government chooses to support self destructive behavior such as homosexuality while banning someone’s shirt because it holds the opposite message. It sounds like tyranny to me.

What if only one is a distraction?
