Moussaoui Life In Prison: Jury Says No To Martyrdom

Posted on May 3, 2006

As he left the court he yelled, “America, you lost!” I have a feeling he would have said the same thing, or something similar even if the ruling would have went the other way.

I’m a little very disappointed here. I was hoping they were gonna fry this creep. The Jury has decided against the death penalty for Moussaoui. He will be serving life in prison. On the bright side, he will not be getting his wish to meet Allah, and become a martyr. However, that is no relief to me whatsoever. I wonder how long he will last in prison? Let it be known, I do not think that justice was served here. I don’t even think he should have had a trial. This ruling really is an outrage!

No martyrdom for you.

A federal jury decided Wednesday al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui deserves life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, on Sept. 11, 2001.

On the seventh day of deliberation, the jury of nine men and three women informed Judge Leonie Brinkema that it had reached a decision. The verdict was announced at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

Moussaoui, a 37-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent, is the only person charged in this country in connection with the suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.

The verdict came after four years of legal maneuvering and a six-week trial that put jurors on an emotional roller coaster.

Everyone is outraged!

James Joyner:

Incredible. If Moussaoui doesn’t deserve to die for his crimes, almost no one currently on death row does. Those who argue that the current system of capital punishment is arbitrary and capricious have much more ammunition now.

Rusty Shackleford:

“Moussaoui deserved death. This is a travesty of justice.” and “I’ve got news for Moussaoui: watch your back in prison.”

Ace:

Gee, I sure hope that his guards take special care of him in prison. It would be such a shame for him to be, I don’t know, beaten to death with a pillowcase filled with batteries or something.

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller:

All over the world, terrorists let out a sigh of relief, knowing that you can go to America, conspire to murder 3,000 innocent civilians, and still live out your days in greater comfort and luxury than their caves could ever afford them.

Beth:

Honestly, his execution would have been WAY too humane anyway. I mean really, people are saying these days that lethal injection is cruel and unusual! He doesn’t deserve to die peacefully. Maybe if they skinned him alive and drowned him in a vat of boiling acid pig’s blood, or buried him alive or something.

Washington Post has a roundup of stories:
Expose the Left has video of the verdict.
Hot Air rounds up reactions.
This was a shock, even to Patterico.

Our judicial sytem is not designed to deal with the War On Terror. It is a war right? Do you think we would’ve won WWII with juries? The US should be outraged, this isn’t justice!

I live just 30 miles from super max where this slim bag will be at. He will do exactly as the Judge said, die with a wimper as he will be in solitary confinement 23 hours per day no TV, no contact with anyone other than guards. One hour per day to exercise in yard by himself. He will be a miserable as most terrorists should be.

Appeasement and inaction took us to 9/11/01. I wonder where it will take us now that Moussaoui has gotten his hand slapped.
