Tony Snow will be named new White House press secretary on Wednesday morning, FOX News has learned. Snow is expected to be at the White House for the announcement. He has been mulling the offer for the last several days.

And so it happens, the White House Officially announces Tony Snow as the new White House Press Secretary. Most conservatives are happy with this choice.

Tony Snow on Wednesday was tapped by President Bush to be the next White House press secretary.

“I am here to break some news,” Bush told the White House press corps. “I have asked Tony Snow to be my press secretary. Tony knows many of you already. He agreed to take the job anyway.”

Snow, host of FOX News Talk’s “The Tony Snow Show” and former “FOX News Sunday” anchor, will replace outgoing spokesman Scott McClellan. Snow had been mulling the White House’s offer for the last several days.

The talk radio host was given a clean bill of health by his oncologist Tuesday, following a CAT scan and other tests that were undertaken last Thursday. Sources said Snow was Bush’s first choice, but he needed the all-clear from his doctors before he takes the job. Snow is recovering from colon cancer.

The Corner shows how the critics are reacting. Most are digging up quotes where Tony has criticized the president. All I can say to that is, who hasn’t? The President obviously doesn’t have much of a problem with bringing in differing viewpoints, so why should the critics? Tony will bring a proffessional attitude, and articulate clarity. I’m confident he will give the press a run for their money. If he had a problem with the majority of Bush’s policies, I’m sure he wouldn’t have taken a position to defend them.

A liberal think tank, the Center for American Progress, circulated a sampling of Snow’s opinions, restricting the observations to those critical of the president. For example, it quoted Snow in September as writing, “No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to defending presidential powers and prerogatives.”

Snow is a smooth-talking Washington insider in a White House led by Texans proud of their outsider status. He is a familiar face to White House reporters and is known as a conservative partisan. AP

Here is how Bush reacted.

Snow, a Fox News commentator and speech-writer in the White House under Bush’s father, has written and spoken frequently about the current president - not always in a complimentary way.

Snow called Bush “something of an embarrassment,” a leader who has “lost control of the federal budget,” the architect of a “listless domestic policy” and a man who has “a habit of singing from the political correctness hymnal.”

Bush said he asked Snow about the critical remarks. “He said, ‘You should have heard what I said about the other guy.’”

“These are times that are going to be very challenging … and I’m very excited and I can’t wait, and I thank all you guys for your forebearance and I look forward to working with you,” Snow told reporters. Source

CNN keeps spinning it to be about Bush’s approval ratings. Tony will definitely bring in a new energy to the press briefings. I hope he calls on Helen Thomas often.

I wonder if he wasn’t doing a better job for the conservative movement as a commentator instead of as spin control for Bush. We will have to wait and see.
