CIA Officer Fired For Leaking Classified Info

Posted on April 21, 2006

Update: AJ Strata sends this info.

Update: More details are coming out. Now the news is claiming the CIA officer in question was one Mary McCarthy from the CIA’s Inspector General’s office - the supposed watchdog for illegal activities inside the agency.

NBC News identified the accused officer as Mary McCarthy, and said she worked in the CIA Inspector General’s office before being “marched out” of the spy agency on Thursday.

FOX News is reporting:

A second law enforcement official confirmed said the CIA officer had provided information that contributed to a Washington Post story last year saying there were secret U.S. prisons in Eastern Europe.

Sources have told FOX News in the past that the CIA prisons/black sites story was referred to the Justice Department for investigation. That story involved the transfer of terror suspects to other countries for questioning. Some believe the CIA transferred suspects to secret prisons in countries where torture is more acceptable; secret prisons and many harsh methods of interrogation would be illegal on U.S. soil.

AJ Strata has the story:

I hope this leads to criminal charges for the CIA leaker and identification and charges against any reporter the leaker tried to get to publish this information. We need to know who in the media is willing to trade in our national security for their [P]ulitzers.

I agree with AJ’s hopes that this leads to criminal charges against the reporters that leaked the sensitive, classified information jeapordizing our National Security. But we all know, that instead…they are recieving pulitzer prizes for their treason. Quite sad.

Dan Rhiel adds:

Great. But let’s not end it there. This leak undermined national security in some significant ways. The individual should be prosecuted to the full extent of existing law. And while they are at it, I want to see Priest invoke her Pulitzer Prize as a rationale for being complicit in the commission of a crime.

Wizbang has a great round-up.

Rumors have long been that the CIA leaks were coming from the “Sisterhood”. Let’s hope she and the reporters she gave state secrets to are all prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Fitzgerald is still prosecuting a crime that wasn’t committed. Where is the outrage over the CIA leaks Fitz?

Just a little while ago I was flipping through the cable news channels, when I came across MSNBC reporting on this very story. Funny how they went about reporting it… for not once did they ever mention that the person in question wasn’t fired just because of a failed polygraph, (which is all MSNBC reported,) but that the fired officer admitted discussing classified information TOO!!! Never mentioned that one……

Here is a suspicious mind at work. I wonder if Mary McCarthy is related to Joseph McCarthy. I always wondered if Joseph McCarthy was truly overzealous or a communist plant meant to give the anti-communist a bad rap. It is rather convoluted thinking but then we are talking about the CIA. It could also be that she is an innocent scapegoat or a true American that the real crooks want to get out of the way. Taking the CIA at face value is probably not a wise thing to do.
