ACLU Oppose Sex Offender Billboards

Hat tip: Assorted Babble

In Mississippi billboards picturing sex offenders are being erected, but of course not without the NAMBLA supporting ACLU trying to stop it.
The Mississippi Department of Human Services has begun to adorn 100 roadside billboards with the images and offense descriptions of convicted sex offenders, particularly those who victimized children.
So, as some states strive to clean up and beautify their highways, Mississippi families enjoying a lovely Sunday drive home from church will see the scruffy face of some pervert along with banners such as, “raped a 12-year-old girl.”
Not surprisingly, the American Civil Liberties Union is alarmed. “It just continues to remind the public about who they are so when they are released,” frets Nsombi Lambright of the Mississippi ACLU, “it just becomes another barrier to go on and start over and rebuild their lives.”
The intent, however, is not to stigmatize or punish the predators any more than they already are, according to Don Taylor, who heads up the agency behind the initiative. Rather, it is to increase awareness of “social pathologies.”
It isn’t suprising at all that the ACLU who defended NAMBLA, think child porn distribution is protected free speech, and fight for child molesters to live next door to schools would oppose making the community aware of a potential threat to their children. Once again, the ACLU lend their sympathies to criminals and could care less about the true victims and potential ones. It is sad, but this is the true face of the ACLU that we have all come to know so well. For me, the outrage only grows stronger, but the shock factor is gone. I’ve grown to expect these sick views from the ACLU.

If ostracizing past criminals is something we want to do, then we need to codify it into law. The nations criminal system has been built on the idea that once a crime has been paid for, it is paid for. If that isn’t possible we kill them, or we leave them in jail forever. Some crimes bring with them concepts of ongoing, official observation. Understandably.
Publicising criminal acts for the sake of raising public awareness is a perfectly valid behaviour. No question. Absolutely. Labelling people specifically is neither required, nor beneficial towards that goal. Don Taylor’s stated reasoning is spurious, at best. A lie at worst. He intends to hold individuals up and burn them at symbolic stakes.
Blending the ACLU’s defence of NAMBLA with this topic to evoke an emotional response is again, spurious. At the same time, stating as fact that the ACLU support criminals and not victims is spurious. That isn’t argued or proved. Quite the opposite. It’s an assertion and nothing else.
What is being questioned here is the vilification of people who will one day be, by definition, pardoned by the state for past deeds.
Please, for the love of god, don’t think I’m defending sex acts against children. What I’m suggesting is that you don’t attack a group trying to defend the letter, and indeed, spirit of the law. If you want convicted child offenders past and present away from your families forever then you need to adjust the law to place these people in jail forever or kill them. Then we’ll debate whether sex acts against children warrant the death penalty. I’m not advocating release or indefinite incarceration or the death penalty. What I’m doing is labelling the real debate, not this application. Don’t attack those who defend the rightful application of currently codified law.
If we agree as a people that sex offenders will serve their time and be reformed and released, then it isn’t in the best interest of society to ostracize them into abject isolation. If we don’t agree such a thing, then that is the issue, because at this moment the codified truth is that we do.
As for the agenda of NAMBLA, well, we have to defend free speech. *sigh* Where free speech is the hardest to defend for those we hate. Oh, yeah. Hate.
‘I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will fight to the death for you to say them.’
Thank you so much for bringing attention to this and linking my site. Like you, the outrage only grows stronger but unfortunately the shock is gone.
It is so difficult for me to believe that ANYONE would support these sick sex predators and at the same time slow the process down for protecting our nation’s children. This is one despicable organization that definitely needs to be stopped. Their new name for me is ACLU=Anti Christ Lawyers Union.
P.S. I will hat tip back to ya…if blogger will allow me to publish. Having so much trouble w/blogger.com…maybe today will be better. Thank you again.
I also believe that individual actions of immorality are learned behavior and the government can work against bad “habits” being learned and for them being unlearned.
The ACLU has two different theories that relate to this. The first is that pedophile is an “unpopular” action as you can see from the title of this article “ACLU Statement on Defending Free Speech of Unpopular Organizations “. The second is that the U.S. Constitution Bill of Rights give them the right to overrule the majority ie. popular opinion.
“Majority power is limited by the Constitution’s Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women’s suffrage), adopted in 1920.”
These releases are located at http://www.aclu.org/freespeech/protest/11289prs20000831.html and http://www.aclu.org/about/index.html. They can be removed by the ACLU at any time, with no reason given.
Besides pushing the communist agenda to weaken America, I have often wondered about the motivation of the ACLU members/supporters and their like.
Do you think they more often identify with the child molester than with the child? It would be interesting to look in their heads and see if pedophilia lives there along with Marxism, spiders, sepsis, and hate for all things decent and good. Better have a barf bag and disinfectant ready.
If they locked these wastes of humanity up for LIFE like they should, these would not be needed. These animals don’t stop and they can not be rehabilitated. These people destroy their victims for life and they should loose the privilage of living on the streets with people. How many more children have to be destroyed and or murdered before society see that?
This is why Jessica’s Law needs to be passed in every state. Its funny to me how liberals are against racial profiling and at the same time, are against criminal profiling. They are consistent, to be sure.
Jimmy: No, its not the oppostite. The ACLU are NOT consistent. They defend free speech at funeral demonstrations that insult our troops, than attack freedom of speech of college students exercising it with private Bible studies, conducted in their own time. They defend freedom of speech when Randi Rhodes openly calls for the assassination of President Bush, then sit back while a 10 year old girl gets her hand-made, red-white-blue beaded “Support the Troops” necklace taken from her by the school, because it “could be considered gang-related.” I could go on and on at the ACLU’s defense of anything anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-anything moral, while at the same time cite the same amount of cases where someone’s freedom of religion was not only not defended by the ACLU, but attacked by them.
By the way Jimmy, this issue is not about free speech, or tolerating the speech of those we hate. Its about convicted sex criminals, who are proven to be repeat offenders, being unleashed on unsuspecting neighborhoods who have a right to know in order to protect their children.
Ah hell just tatoo PEDOPHILE on their foreheads it would be way cheaper than billboards
What can you expect from a backwoods state filled with illiterate rednecks? Typical of the neo-con agenda of attacking all citizens that make mistakes, even if they’ve already paid for their crimes. Billboards to announce sex offenders? Oh, that’ll help rehabilitate them. I’m sure they’ll never get angry or triggered into a deviant cycle through this “fair” treatment. You hate mongers need to study deviant sexuality and what triggers it, and realize that you’re just stirring up trouble by supporting this invasion of privacy. Why do you people hate everybody that doesn’t think like you so much? You’re all just a bunch of hot-headed troublemakers who take pleasure in bullying every around. Go to Texas and secede, for all I care. Leave America to people who support freedom, not those who want to take it away from everybody who doesn’t think like they do. Bunch of stupid narrow-minded fascists. It insults me when you wave the American flag and say you love freedom. Do you even know what that means? Apparently not. Flush those opposed to freedom, not the ACLU who is trying to defend it.
proBush=anti-freedom,
Bwah hahahaha!
“You hate mongers need to study deviant sexuality and what triggers it”
I don’t think so… the only triggers I deal with, require pull and practice, not study.(thats what red-necks do, ya know)
There is a saying, if you defend pedophiles/child molesters… you probably are one.
You write more like you are from DU though.
oh i guess you can’t see the picture. it basically describes what George Warpig Bush is all about. It’s a photo of him giving a speech with his right arm out, which morphs into a shot of Hitler saluting the Nazi flag. Not a great stretch of the imagination, if you’re eyes and ears are actually open to what’s happening today. If not, then you’re just like the sheep who saluted Hitler and stood by as 12,000,000 innocents were gassed. If Dubya gets his way, that’s about how many of our GI’s will die in Iraq before he sees fit to end the travesty of a war.
