Kentucky ACLU Chapter Seeks Over-The-Counter Abortions

In their relentless quest to allow women to kill their babies, the Kentucky chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has published some misleading results of a survey regarding the availability of a prescription drug euphemistically called ‘emergency contraception,’ or the even more soothing ‘Plan B’– as well as the attitudes held by some pharmacists toward the drug.

The misleading article, found on the KY ACLU chapter’s website, states in its opening paragraph that “Nearly half of Kentucky pharmacists refuse to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception….” However, in the very next paragraph we find this quote, “Of 309 pharmacies surveyed last fall, 47% refused to fill the prescription, were unwilling to answer questions, provided inaccurate information, or refused to refer prospective patients to another pharmacy.” Well, which is it? Did 47% actually refuse to fill it or not?

This is a favorite liberal tactic: group a host of questions under one heading, and then use the results to make it appear as though the response was to only one of the questions proffered. I would like to know how many of the alleged 47% actually refused to fill the prescription, as opposed to those who fell under one of the other categories.

Regardless of the true number, my hat is off to those who would refuse to fill the life-ending drug, who have the audacity to actually stand by their moral convictions. I have long held that life begins at conception, and therefore, it doesn’t matter if that life is ended at nine hours or nine months, it is still a life taken. What’s more, not only is it a life taken, it is a life taken as a matter of convenience.

The survey also claims that only 13% of pharmacies surveyed in Kentucky actually had the Plan B drug in stock. The pharmacies claim there is little demand for the abortion pill, and therefore it is unreasonable, and unfeasible, for them to keep the drug in stock–makes sense to me.

Now, not only do the great protectors of life want to make pharmacists dispense the prescription, but they actually want to force pharmacists to dispense the drug without the customer even having to present a prescription. That’s right, over-the-counter abortion.

And they have found a stooge to do their bidding. Rep. Tom Burch (D-Louisville) says he will introduce such a bill in the KY General Assembly next week.

However, the abortion pill does have its opponents. In comments posted at the website of Louisville television station WHAS-11, Sen. Dick Roeding (R-Lakeside Park), said the following: “You’re talking about killing a human being as far as I’m concerned … with the unborn child.” And regarding making the drug available over-the-counter, Sen. Roeding said, “Why do we treat them different than other drugs…I don’t think we should.”
