Update: Conservative Thinking reports via Fox News that the CIA has authenticated the tapes to be Bin Laden.

Al-Jazeera aired an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden on Thursday, saying al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a truce to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan.
The voice on the tape said heightened security measures in the United States are not the reason there have been no attacks there since the Sept. 11, 2001, suicide hijackings.
Instead, the reason is “because there are operations that need preparations, and you will see them,” he said.
“Based on what I have said, it is better not to fight the Muslims on their land,” he said. “We do not mind offering you a truce that is fair and long-term. … So we can build Iraq and Afghanistan … there is no shame in this solution because it prevents wasting of billions of dollars … to merchants of war.”
My friend, Kender put it well in an email to me. I saw that….a truce? Or more like “TIME”….need a breather…..I picture OBL making the “timeout” motion……announcer: “and OBL calls a timeout but it doesn’t look as if Cheneys Devil Dogs are gonna honor that request as another predator is launched armed with a hellfire”! Hey Kender, looks like you were exactly right about Cheney and his devil dogs.
We have faced and we are facing today enemies who hate us, who hate our country, who hate the liberties for which we stand. They dwell in the shadows, wear no uniform, have no regard for the laws of warfare, and feel unconstrained by any standard of morality. We’ve never had a fight like this. And those of us in positions of responsibility have a duty to wage a broad-scale effort for the sake of this nation’s safety and security.
It seems more than obvious to say that our nation is still at risk of attack. Yet, as we get farther away from September 11, some in Washington are yielding to the temptation to downplay the threat, to back away from the business at hand. That mindset may be comforting, but it is dangerous. We’re all grateful that this country has gone for more than four years without another 9/11. Obviously, no one can guarantee that we won’t be hit again. But our nation has been protected by more than luck.
It is no accident that we haven’t been hit in more than four years.We’ve been protected by sensible policy decisions, decisive action at home and abroad, and around-the-clock efforts on the part of people in the armed services, law enforcement, intelligence, and homeland security.
The enemy that struck on 9/11 is weakened and fractured, yet, still lethal, still determined to hit us again.
Either we are serious about fighting this War on Terror or we are not. And our enemies of America need to know we are serious, and this administration will not let down our guard.
Indeed, this is a truce I will trust as much as one from Hamas! I wonder if we can get CAIR to arrange the treaties? I’m sure the defeatocrats will be the first to sign. Rightwing Nuthouse is on the same wave length
He may be an evil, thuggish brute but no one could ever accuse Osama Bin Laden of being dumb.
Actually, it really doesn’t take that much for an enemy of the United States with internet access to figure out how best to divide America; echo one side’s talking points.
And Osama has the liberals down cold. This is from his statement offering us a “truce” of some kind, the quid pro quo not as yet clear:
“We do not mind offering you a long-term truce with fair conditions that we adhere to,” he said. “We are a nation that God has forbidden to lie and cheat. So both sides can enjoy security and stability under this truce so we can build Iraq and Afghanistan, which have been destroyed in this war. There is no shame in this solution, which prevents the wasting of billions of dollars that have gone to those with influence and merchants of war in America.”

Of course! It has nothing to do with our security measures, just ask the ACLU. That is why they need over a decade to plan these attacks. Get real!
If there was any doubt that CIA strike didn’t phase them, they have now cast that aside. It sure is significant timing.

I agree. Take care.
This may have been stated earlier, but what scares me (more than the coded messages that may have been communicated) is that OBL is sounding more and more like the MSM and our liberal anti-war groupies.
Will he now be the darling of the media? Will he be invited to the UN and given a diplomatic passport so he cannot be arrested? Just like Yasar Arafat?
Will Barbara WAWA interview him, or Katie Couric? Maybe Diane Sawyer. Then he can make an appearance on the View.
OBL feels the heat. He is soon to join Jesse Jackson Bill Clinton, and Al Gore on the trash heap of irrelevancy.
He has an attack planned and wants to appear merciful before delivering it. That is a tactic that Muslims have been known to use. Don’t forget he is not a Christian or a westerner and so doesn’t think like one. He could also be trying to get in position to stick a knife in our back. A number of Americans probably think it is a good ideal to have a truce with him.
Isn’t it just so special that OBL wants us to know he is thinking of us. Kind of like I know I keep saying how I hate you and I promised to attack you again but see I am late doing this because I have been so busy. But in the meantime I have a gimmick of a truce that is not a truce for outside the USA.
