ACLU Says Alito Confirmation Would Erode Balance of Powers,

In official testimony submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the American Civil Liberties Union offered a detailed explanation behind its decision to oppose the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to the Supreme Court, citing his “proven record of undue deference to executive powers” and a hostility to civil liberties and civil rights that could “change the country for years to come.”
“We are witnessing an extraordinary time in history when our executive branch is centralizing power and bypassing other branches of government,” said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. “At a time when our president has claimed unprecedented authority to spy on Americans and jail people indefinitely without trial, America needs a Supreme Court justice who will uphold our precious civil liberties, staying true to the balance of powers envisioned by our Founders. Judge Alito does not fit that mold.”
I find it comforting that Alito does not fit the “mold” of the ACLU like Ginsburg. I find it comforting that they think he will erode power, because the real threat he poses is to the power of the ACLU. They feel that their agenda is threatened by his confirmation. It doesn’t bother me at all if there is a shift in the balance of powers, because right now, the scales of justice are tipped far too much towards the judicial branch. What the ACLU fears is that we will have one more judge that actually upholds the Constitution, and is too smart to be fooled by the ACLU’s creative re-interpreation molded toward their radical agenda. They fear that we may have a judge that will not rule in favor of pedophiles living next to playgrounds, and terrorists having free reign in America. I can’t wait till Alito is confirmed.

Excellant. We’ll be removing America’s “civil liberties” in no time.
Obviously all those Chrismas cards sent to the ACLU did not convey the subliminal message. Too bad a “Welcome to 2002″ New Year card mailing wasn’t orchestrated THIS month 2005.
On second thought — I’m not sure they would get that message, either.
What’s the likelihood of Hallmark or American Greeting Cards sponsoring a National “Get a Clue ACLU” Day????
:::shaking head:::
The real danger is that the ACLU was allowed to weigh in on the decision making process and a few of the Senators will take their opinion seriously.
This organization is too dangerous and their agenda runs contrary to civil liberties and common sense; horse sense, what horses possess that keep them from betting on humans..
The people of the United States have allowed 6 individual anarchists to get on the court and the ACLU finds the environment created by this as healthy to their agenda. They are only worried that the court will be swayed away from their agenda. Alitto looks to be honest but looks have been deceptive in the past. We need to seriously consider pressuring Congress to get radical Federal judges off the high court and minimize the radicals on the lower courts. Only then do we have a chance to have our true civil liberties protected instead of stolen.
I am sure the ACLU would be as equally concerned about the “balance of power” in the Supreme Court if tipped too far to the left. Yea right!
The only “balance of power” the ACLU is more concerned with is taking ours and giving it away to terrorists and sex offenders. Judge Alito will become a great weapon in the battle vs. the ACLU.
