Judge Alito’s opening statement

I thought that Judge Alito’s opening statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee was very good. Although it was an “opening statement”, it took place after the roughly three hours of the Senator’s statements. Judge Alito sounded, to me, to be just a bit nervous, which frankly was endearing, and delivered upwards of twelve minutes without once glancing at a note.

He began by talking about his family history and background and then got into some concrete examples of why his judicial philosophy is what it is.

    The expression on his wife’s face while he was reeling out the “no agenda” tape was priceless.

    If he is confirmed, you will see his agenda. Roberts is for corporate interests, Alito is for executive interests. If that’s what you agree to, that’s fine. But it’s not American democracy anymore. By definition, it’s something else.
