ACLU Says You Have a Right to Life
Posted on December 10, 2005
…if you’re guilty. If you’re an innocent unborn child, you don’t have that luxury. The ACLU has announced their continued opposition to Capital Punishment. They are revamping their efforts to swing the nation against the Death Penalty.
NEW YORK - In the wake of the 1,000th death penalty execution in the modern era, the American Civil Liberties Union today announced the hiring of John Holdridge as the new director of its Capital Punishment Project. The project is expanding its resources and programs to now include litigation in addition to public education as part of the ACLU’s longstanding effort to end the death penalty in the United States.
“John Holdridge is one of the nation’s premier death penalty litigators,” said Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU. “He has fought the death penalty in courtrooms around the country for more than a decade, and now brings that expertise and commitment to the ACLU.”
Holdridge will build on the successful public education and advocacy programs that have been the hallmark of the ACLU’s Capital Punishment Project by expanding the scope of the project to include litigation. “The Project will focus on cases that highlight the unfairness and inequality of the death penalty system,” according to Steven R. Shapiro, the ACLU’s National Legal Director. SOURCE
So the ACLU is making Capital Punishment a high priority? This normally wouldn’t bother me. Even though I support the Death Penalty, I respect those with a conflicting opinion. Unless of course, they are pro-choice. If you look into the ACLU, you’ll be reminded that abortion rights are the ACLU’s top priority. See, as a pro-life, pro-Capital Punishment person, I have a slightly different view. With abortion, you’re executing the innocent, whereas with the Death Penalty, you’re executing the guilty. It’s at least somewhat logical to support the death of the guilty and the life of the innocent, but it’s complete lunacy to think the opposite. That of course is the stance that the ACLU is taking. Whether you’re for or against Capital Punishment, you have to recognize the hypocrisy.

I think you summed it up nicely. One can logically argue that killing is wrong across the board, both of the unborn, and of anyone period. Even those who are pro-death penality should be able to recognize and respect such an opinion. It is definitely hypocritical to be against killing the guilty and for killing the innocent.
Is it hypocritical to argue against abortion while argueing for the death penality? Both are moral issues. The left will spout some crap where they don’t view an unborn child as a human life, but more like a parasite. Sick isn’t it? The major difference I see, is that in one case we are talking about criminals, and in the other case we are talking about innocent, defenseless babies.
“With abortion, you’re executing the innocent, whereas with the Death Penalty, you’re executing the guilty”
Man, don’t you wish the world really were that simple, though? No one would have to trouble themselves with medical ethics, etc., or with thinking much in general — we could just assign equal value to the “soul” of a non-sentient blastocyst and a 50-year-old human being, label anything we want a “child,” and pray to Jesus. All would then be perfect.
Unfortunately it’s more complex than that. (Despite what you say I’m sure you’ll respect my views because like yours they’re consistent — pro-choice, pro-death penalty.)
I can respect your views much more than you can mine Beaming Visionary. I may not take the time to respond much during the week, but I do appreciate the debate you bring here.
I can respect a pro-choice, pro-death penalty opinion more than a more hypocritical one of pro-choice, anti-death penalty. It isn’t as hypocritical, but I still disagree with it.
But for someone that doesn’t believe in god, why worry about morals right?
The reason I usually don’t address you, is that I don’t take you serious. You do nothing but bash our site, call us ignorant, etc. I really don’t think you have any desire to change minds with debate, or you would choose a different, more respectable approach to debate.
To call us ignorant because we believe in a higher power, just because you don’t…and to brag about your “superior” intelect, does not make me want to engage in any kind of debate with you. Your mind is closed to different views, and you consider yourself elite to any who think differently. To debate you would just be a waste of time for anyone.
You are a giant DUMB*** liberal, mind so closed up you can’t detect true reason when you see it.
Modern medical technology has shown us that what is in the womb is inherrently human and living, not a blob of tissue to be destroyed on the whim of Planned HerrodHood!
The unborn has NOT committed any crime, and deserves to live. The convicted murder deserves to die, IT’S CALLED JUSTICE!! Something liberal morons have no concept of, becuase their heads are stuck so far up thier own rearends!
A fifty yr old man, and an unborn child both are equally human, and deserve the same respect!
So long Hitler Visionary!
I don’t bother trying to engage in “reasonable” debate for the same reason I wouldn’t attempt to so the same with a mule. People’s minds here are made up and facts are arbitrary. Bash away though I do, at least I apprise myself of the necessary background.
I also don’t claim to be superior or elite, although I’m sure the solidity of my positions and my eloquence in presenting them shines through regardless.
“But for someone that doesn’t believe in god, why worry about morals right?”
It takes little insight to understand that morality is an intrisic quality of human societies, not something bestowed upon us by an external agent. But sadly, you and many others lack even this much insight. The fact that no universal entity cares what we do to one another is hardly justification for slaughtering or cheating each other. Love people and they’ll love you back; gods are optional, superfluous and frivolous parts of this simple equation.
Also, the Bible is no assortment of great morals (if you followed it you’d be stoning people and supprting slavery). The fakegod of the Bible is a jealous god and even admits as much. But nope — the whole construct couldn’t possibly be a predictable outcropping of human psychology, could it? After all, it’s not as though humans recognize they’re going to die someday and don’t like to contemplate as much.
BV? If you don’t try to engage in reasonable debate that is your decision…..the question is, why do you troll this site? I am very busy today, and am tired of your crap cluttering up this site for no reason other than you are a small minded cretin that apparently lacks a life to live.
Since I have better things to do than tolerate your crap on a busy saturday afternoon I am going to block your IP and start deleting your comments.
Bugger off.
Well bash away all you want, there is no reason for me to ever respond again since you are not attempting to debate. Keep talking to yourself.
As a matter of fact, I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t just delete every one of your comments, being they are not intended for any purpose other than to stroke your own ego.
I vote for deleting, no one is interested in his ignorance anyway.
I have to this point refrained from addressing comments because I have found that it only fuels the moonbats if you engage them. So I am resolved to police their comments and edit them when needed to purge out any vulgarities that they tend to leave.
So Bye Bye BV, for someone who is claiming to be a visionary you are awful closed minded.
This is a dichotomy I have often pondered. However, I think I have understood that there is a consistency in being both pro-abortion and anti-death penalty.
It concerns innocence. Pro-abortion people don’t like the idea that a person should face the ultimate sanction for killing the innocent. After all, that’s what they support. Tookie Williams et al are just very-late-term abortionists. Do abortionists deserve to be stopped, or even punished? Nah…
