Andrea Yates Gets New Trial
Posted on November 9, 2005
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Texas’ highest criminal court has refused to reinstate the murder convictions against Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who drowned her five children in 2001, after they were thrown out by a lower court earlier this year.
The decision by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued on Wednesday sends the case back to the lower appeals court, and prosecutors must now decide whether to retry Yates, who was sentenced to life in prison, according to court’s clerks office.
Prosecutors were not immediately available to comment on the case. The murder convictions were overturned by a lower appeals court in January because of errors in the testimony of an expert witness.
Sure, its not the ACLU, but its a prime example of how our judicial system is broken. The woman killed her children, regardless of whether she knew what she was doing, or was insane…she should be locked away from society. She freakin drowned her children in the bathtub. Thats insane enough, don’t you think? Just my two cents on the off-topic post for today.
